This forum is for you to share ideas and exchange feedback with Mountaineers members, guests, volunteers, and leadership. You may vote for or comment on any idea and will be notified of its status changes. Your feedback helps us prioritize projects and improvements for our organization.

We receive lots of great ideas, so please search the forum before adding a new one. If your idea is not yet in our forum, please post it with a simple title and an explanation, and how it could benefit The Mountaineers. You’ll get an email reminder to do so just after the activity. If your feedback is of urgent nature it may be best to contact the chair of the committee that sponsors that program directly. If there was a safety incident or near miss, you will have the opportunity for submitting an Incident Report after submitting activity feedback.     This was spawned off from an existing thread:

    It was clear that "fuzzy search" as implemented there did not translate into a good people search experience.

    BACKGROUND

    Currently, the only way to search for members (contacts) is through the sitewide search mechanism. While we have dedicated search pages for "Find Activities", "Find Routes & Places" and "Find Courses, Clinics & Seminars", we have no such dedicated page for finding members. Your options are to either find them on some roster you have access to or to rely on the sitewide search.

  2. Exportable PDF Feedback Reports

    BACKGROUND

    I have the ability to see my feedback history. As a committee admin I have the ability to see a portion of the feedback history for anyone who has led a trip for my committee. I cannot see the feedback history for someone who has led trips for some other committee.

    As a Leadership Chair for various committees (current and past) I review leadership applications. Often these prospective leaders are already leaders for another branch and/or committee.   3. Add a "Tag" option to pages and a "Suitcase" where i can store pages i want to consult again

    Like on Alltrails, WTA, etc. I'd like to be able to build my own bespoke repository of pages from the portal that i want to be able to easily access again and again -- whether it be references to how to use the portal, or blog entries, or trailheads, routes, etc.
    Best would be to be able to sort them into something like sub-folders, or tag them with my own memorable tags to be able to manage them when it starts bulking up.

  4. demographics updates

    I noticed that my demographic in my member profile had the wrong age group (unfortunately I continue to age). I only noticed it because I've been doing website testing today. Maybe there can be a prompt (or even a forcing function) for members to review their entire profile including preferences and demographics annually, as I'm sure other things change for members as well (marital status, activity interests, student status, etc). Maybe a button to go along with the waiver that forces them to scroll through their profile and select "I have reviewed and updated my profile" or something like that.

  5. Swap "Meeting place and time" and "Leader's Notes" on trip listing

    A frequent leader pain point is participants who obviously don't read the entirety of the trip listing before signing up and especially before requesting leader permission.

    Most leaders will put instructions on information they want for leader permission in the "Leader's Notes" section, but many participants don't see it because it ends up hidden under the "More+" collapse link. Some leaders even make a point in ALL CAPS to try to get participants to click "More+".

    I believe that swapping these two sections and making "Leader's Notes" the headline that doesn't get hidden would improve this situation and make it…

    I believe what Travis mentioned in the notes would help, but depending on the level of detail provided in meeting place, it may or may not solve the problem.


    In the meantime, some leaders have chosen to write a comment in the trip Details > Summary telling students to look for the Leader Notes.

  6. Course-Activity Late Cancellation Management

    We have noticed that students are able to cancel from course-related activities after registration has closed. Some volunteers have requested a website improvement that would either prevent cancellations after registration date is closed, or better allow volunteers to manage this process. No-shows and late-cancellations have a big impact on volunteers' ability to successfully run programs.

    Our tech team identified that the ability to cancel after registration closes is not a glitch, but rather, has always been the way the website has operated. Currently roster email notifications can be used to manage when students cancel from an activity roster, but this…

  7. Remove volunteer ages from Committee Meeting rosters

    A few months ago the ages of volunteers started showing up in the rosters for committee meetings (see screenshot). I'm guessing this may have been added to support youth, but most adults consider their age to be private information.

    Event rosters are viewable by anyone who has admin access, and it's common for many committee members to have admin access for various reasons. For this reason, committee rosters are basically public to the committee. Publishing everyone's ages does not seem appropriate.

  8. Add profile link to roster

    There is a companion issue that made names clickable in the roster on the website: https://feedback.mountaineers.org/forums/273688-general-feedback/suggestions/8764993-make-names-on-roster-open-their-profile-so-you-can

    Here, I would like a column added to the CSV roster export with the link to someone's profile. There's currently a column for whether the profile is private or not, but no column with the actual profile link.

    This would serve the same purpose as the clickable name. In Excel, it will detect that these are links and make them clickable. That makes it easier for me to navigate to someone's profile.

  10. Activity Registration Confirmation Email Change for Carbon Footprint Reduction ~Salesforce

    Per conversations with Jeff and Amber, I'm submitting feedback requesting tweaks to the confirmation email registrants receive after signing up for Mountaineers trips. The conservation and development teams would like to give registrants the option to partially offset their transportation-related carbon associated with each Mountaineers trip by donating to a Mountaineers Carbon Footprint Reduction campaign. We understand that prompting for this donation in the existing registration confirmation email would be an initial way to achieve this. Funds raised from this campaign would go toward energy reduction/net-zero projects at the Seattle Program Center and other efforts to reduce the carbon footprint…

  11. Provide Activity Feedback from participants/students to Asst. & Co- Leaders

    After an activity participants are asked to provide feedback. This feedback loop is an important component of leadership development and allows leaders to learn how their approach is being received. However, Asst and Co-Leaders do not have access to this information and miss out on a valuable learning opportunity. For some, especially less experienced Asst Leaders, they may be tempted to emulate behavior they saw from a leader without the knowledge of how that was received by participants.   13. Gift Memberships for Renewals

    Why are gift memberships restricted to new members? Every year I'm asked what I'd like for my birthday and Christmas. It would be delightful if my family members could renew my Mountaineers membership. I get the benefir of the Mountaineers and my family gets the benefit of giving it to me. That certainly beats another tie. I prefer gifts which are not "things". I have enough possessions already.

  14. Make the Volunteer Hours page visible to all leaders

    Similar to how leaders can view any member's activity/course history. This would help leaders get a sense for a member's availability, see what they have or haven't tracked, etc.

  15. Adding a Section/Tab to Books for Awards

    An idea we had some time ago was creating an Awards tab, much like "Descriptions" "Reviews" "Video" -- but at the time we decided against it because we thought it would be best to highlight it in the Description field anyways.

    But now that the feed to our 3rd parties are being more restrictive on the level of HTML we can have, the above argument against holds a lot less ground.

  16. Simple and Effective Feedback Surveys & Incident Reports

    (1) Keep it simple and quick to attract more feedback.
    (2) For instance, we could have multi-choice or single-choice questions on page 1 (change it to cover a bigger picture than we do already) and have a conditional page if people wish to add more comments/improvements if they wish to.
    (3) Separate the near-miss report and incident report. They serve different purposed and requires attention and follow-up on a different scale.

    Add six rich text fields to the Thank You page for each of these item types: membership, course, activity, book, merchandise, donation. Each field would be displayed if the shopping cart contains and item of its type.
