This forum is for you to share ideas and exchange feedback with Mountaineers members, guests, volunteers, and leadership. You may vote for or comment on any idea and will be notified of its status changes. Your feedback helps us prioritize projects and improvements for our organization.

You’ll get an email reminder to do so just after the activity. If your feedback is of urgent nature it may be best to contact the chair of the committee that sponsors that program directly.   1. Generate iCal calendar for any course activities, regardless of participation status

    I often have to manually transcribe the multiple events from a course into my personal google calendar. This is error prone and time consuming, and I bet most people do this.

    It would be awesome if the "course requirements" section of a course page that shows all the events would also contain a link to the iCal of that course so I can add all the events to my personal google calendar with a single click.

    This would be useful to do with any course, not just the ones I am signed up with:

  2. Provide more detail for course-related activities in 'Manage Registration' signup box

    Right now when you click on Manage Registration for a course related activity all you can see in the signup box is the name of the activity, the date, and a Request Leader Permission link. We have different mentors posting these activities for their students but the leader of the activity isn't visible in the signup box (plus the formatting is terrible). The students have to flip back and forth between the activity listing imbedded in the course and the Manage Registration box to know who they're signing up with.   3. Confirmation email for rolling enrollment classes is confusing in some cases

    Currently when a student registers for a course that has rolling enrollment they receive an automated confirmation that includes the following paragraph:

    "This course is a rolling enrollment style course meaning there are multiple sets of lectures and field trips. Please make sure that you are signed up for the specific field trip and lecture dates that are available and/or fit your schedule.You should have received additional activity email confirmations for these specific dates."

  4. Course-Activity Late Cancellation Management

    We have noticed that students are able to cancel from course-related activities after registration has closed. Some volunteers have requested a website improvement that would either prevent cancellations after registration date is closed, or better allow volunteers to manage this process. No-shows and late-cancellations have a big impact on volunteers' ability to successfully run programs.

    Our tech team identified that the ability to cancel after registration closes is not a glitch, but rather, has always been the way the website has operated. Currently roster email notifications can be used to manage when students cancel from an activity roster, but this…

  5. Display co-requisite badge status on course roster

    As a course administrator, it becomes difficult to manage and check on every individual's requirements to be met for the graduation needs of the respective course. When courses require co-requisite badges in order to graduate, display the course roster with additional columns stating when the respective badge was awarded to an individual for each co-requisite badge. This will immensely improve the process for course administrators to check on verifying individuals' records before graduating them. Also, providing a great tracking tool to follow up on individuals needing more help with courses and such.

  6. Show enrolled courses in course roster CSV export

    As a course administrator, I often need to know if students are enrolled in their co-requisite courses so I can send them appropriate reminders. In some cases, such as scrambling, we actually bump students off the roster who don't have or enroll in Wilderness Navigation before the course starts.

    With the course roster CSV export, I can determine if someone has already completed Navigation. However, there's no way for me to know if someone has is enrolled in the course without manually going to every student's profile and checking their course list. This is as abysmally slow as it sounds.

  7. Add badge expiry date to course roster export

    Currently, the course roster downloads display all the badges an individual has earned whether it is expired or active. It would be good to know if the badge is still active and hence requesting a change to roster downloads to include an expiration date. This will help all the courses that require their students to have core-requisites badges to be current for their graduatation.

  8. Seminars and Course Activities Will Not Stay Private

    Seminars and other course activities (lecture and field trips) will not stay private. They are continuously "self publishing" a few minutes after being withdrawn. Repeated withdrawals do not help - the seminar or course activity will self-publish ad infinitum. This causes seminars and other course activities to become publicly visible while they are still being developed and reviewed. Sometimes committee reviews - the review/discuss/edit/repeat cycle - can take a few weeks, so having those half-done seminars and courses live on the website is a problem.

    This seems to be a new website bug for 2021? I don't remember seeing it…

  9. “Don’t Forget to Volunteer” Reminder Email ~Salesforce

    Please create another auto generated email that is sent to folks after six months from graduation (i.e. have earned a course badge) to remind them to consider volunteering.   10. Move the "Manage Registration" Button on Mobile View

    It would be helpful for the 'Manage Registration' button to be moved to someplace more prominent for students registering with their mobile device. Right now it is at the bottom of the page which is confusing for students and often generates a lot of emails on registration days. Another solution might be to make the button appear on each activity page for students that are registered in a course. Right now its a maddening cycle of referring back to the course page because people can't figure out where the button is located.

  11. Improve Course Application Process GH2951

    Improve the online forms so that applications can be housed on our website (which is ideal), with a prefilled field linking to a particular course, that the form builder creates. When the form is submitted, the applicant is automatically added to the "applied" roster, and the same process continues from there. This has the advantage of reducing admin burden, but it will require our online forms to be much easier to build so that our leaders will make applications in plone. Probably a much bigger project.

  12. Course Activity Data Export Improvement GH3028

    Investigate alternatives for the Course Activities Export. It takes several minutes to get the datatables view, because there are often several thousand records associated with the request. There may be more, but few options are:

    • Check how much overhead there is in Diazo processing of the markup? Avoiding that may be one reason that converting the main course roster view to be React-based helped so much. If that's correct you could possibly load this part of the page in an iframe that bypasses Diazo.

    • A bit off the wall... After clicking the "download" button, display a message (in a popup?)…

  13. Automatically Add Instructors to Committee Roster GH2511

    When an person registers for or is registered for an activity as an Instructor, in addition to adding them to the course's team roster (if part of a course), add them as an Instructor to the sponsoring Committee's team roster as an instructor or check their instructor box if they are already on the Committee's team roster and their Instructor box is not already checked.

  14. Add "Applied" as a Registration Status Option GH2950

    Add a status that the course leader could assign when they manually add an applicant to the roster, before they have been accepted or declined. eg. the Basic Climbing Course roster would have 300 applicants that were manually entered by the leaders. (this has the problems of communicating to applicants to create a guest account and probably too much admin burden for leaders). As students are accepted, they are moved to "offered" at which point they can pay for the course. All who aren't accepted simply remain on the "applied" roster. This would allow a quick report for following years…

  15. Add optional "Date to Assign Student Badge" for courses

    Add an option under course settings for when the "Student Badge" is assigned. Currently it is assigned when someone registers. The issue is that Student Badges are used as prerequisites for trips. This means that as soon as someone registers for the Scramble class, the website will let them sign up for Scrambles. We should wait to assign the student badge until students are far enough through the course to actually go on trips.

    I'm open to other suggestions on how to handle this, but delaying issuing the badge seems like a simple to implement method.

  16. Course activity review tool for courses with 2-3 activities SD664

    Include some bulk review and update tools for courses where we only 2-3 required activities. For courses like WFA, Navigation or Basic Snowshoeing with just a couple required field trips/lectures make a roster preview and download that allows you see that a student is registered for all required activities and then their participant result and probably participant notes. This is probably exception report for a course roster compared to 1-3 activity template roster (on screen and download).

  17. Add Ability to Exclude Instructors from Getting Registration Conflict Check for a Course Activity SD667

    Make it so instructors can be excluded from conflict checking but not participants. For example for pool play sessions for sea kayaking course we need instructors for afternoon and morning sessions but students we only want to be able to sign up for one session.

  19. Identify activities, courses, and events restricted to a SIG/Branch

    Let climb leads be able to hide climbs from the public until they are done getting members from their SIG or branch.

    As a basic student its time consuming to see climbs just to sign up or email the climb leader and find out its only for a specific group of people and that I can't be on the climb.

  20. Add Requested Info field to Courses GH2756

    Add an additional field on courses that prompts students to provide info when signing up for a course. For summer camps this can allow us to collect T-shirt size or could be used for questions about kayak rentals for kayak students etc.
