Change mobile view for books side to show cart instead of donate button and/or login
Currently when you visit a product page on mobile the two primary nav options are "donate" and "log in/join" - both of which don't serve books as well as a cart would. If someone clicks on an ad, is directed to this page, they won't even know they are able to buy the book without scrolling down, and the login portion feels like we are gatekeeping our books.

Can't create a page without it showing up in dropdown navigation - books
I create a new page under "Special Book Lists," I keep it marked private, I create a publish date for the future, and I mark "exclude from navigation" and it STILL shows up in the dropdown navigation on the live site when not logged in (and when logged in). When clicked it goes to a login page as the page is "private" but it is still showing the title of page under the Books dropdown navigation. It makes it impossible for me to create anything in advance without it showing up to the public. In this case it's for a…

Improve Default Shipping Selection on WA web Book Orders GH3613
Make Surepost Default selection on WA web orders (instead of pickup option).
This will make a significant difference in terms of minimizing the folks that leave curbside selected but actually need their stuff shipped. This issue arises multiple times per week and getting them switched back to shipping is a very manual/time consuming process. It would also significantly lessen curbside returns (we are seeing a fair amount of folks that order curbside but never pick up).

Filters at top of site search results do not work as expected GH3660
Enter text in site search bar in the header and hit enter. Results are shown with four buttons at top (Find Books, Find Events, Find Courses, Find Activities). Hit "Find Books" and the results are refreshed and show me things not related to what I searched for (not sticky to the search term I entered). Expected result is the search term result list is filtered to just books. See screenshots.

Link Green Trails Maps Purchase to Activities & Courses Listings
Populate course and activity listings with Green Trails map purchases in parallel with Mountaineers Books listings. Why? 1) Facilitate, encourage carrying hard copy topo maps. 2) Support Books efforts to recover lost revenue
1 voteLong-term Project · AdminJeff Bowman (Associate Director of Information Technology, The Mountaineers) respondedThanks for the suggestion! There are roughly 900 Routes & Places that need to have one or more Green Trails Maps added. While we do not have enough staff resources to update the all these Routes & Places in one “push,” we will work on updating them as we edit and add new Routes & Places.
We have the Routes & Places: Data, Statistics, Photo Finder Google Sheet (https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1cY1RLAmAG5674lJPwppzWYkRwyZT_PcmTHOcNwx3hAE/edit?usp=sharing) that can be used to find Routes & Places that may need updates. Though built to support a “photo finder,” all the field from the website are included, and there is a “Green Trails Map Needed?” field, fields for the number activities that use a route/place in a few different timeframes (e.g this year, last year), etc.
Feel free to download this Google sheet and use it to look for Routes & Places that would benefit the most from…

Books & Maps: Add a Revision Date GH3284
For books and maps, add a Revision Date in addition to the Publication Date. This is helpful for book reprint dates where some corrections and revisions may be made. It is especially helpful for maps there generally do not have new editions that get a new ISBN and Publication Date, but are revised and updated every few years.
3 votesCompleted · AdminJeff Bowman (Associate Director of Information Technology, The Mountaineers) respondedCompleted Sep 2022. This information was added to the book's "Description" field. Typically you'll see both original and current edition dates there.

Improve Universal Header Search for Books GH3048
Overall we need to better promote books when using the site search in the universal header when the Books global header is being viewed. Here is some data and an idea. There are more ideas in the comments.
** When author name searched their books appear too far down results **
When an author name is typed into the search bar often their books are found waaaay down the page, as is the case with these results when searching Molly Hashimoto and Heather Anderson:
https://www.mountaineers.org/search#SearchableText=molly+hashimoto
https://www.mountaineers.org/search#SearchableText=heather+anderson (Mud Rocks shows up but Thirst isn't even on the first page of results)

Pre-orders & Backorders: Better Handle Failed Credit Card Transactions GH3285
When the nightly delayed orders process runs, nothing is done with those with failed credit cards as best I can tell. I am not sure what's best to do here, but I think the options are:
Cancel the backorder and update the Salesforce opportunity's Stage to Online Credit Card Problem.
Mark the pre-order or backorder as Credit Card Declined on the website and Online Credit Card Problem in Salesforce, and add a "Buy Now" button/link for the customer to move the item, shipping address, and shipping method to the "regular" shopping cart and take them to the checkout page.

Improve Address Entry & Management GH2975/3062/3146
(1) When a user buys books or merchandise and checks out as a guest, use the shipping address they entered as the billing address on the page where we collect their credit card information. Or maybe it's better if we add a "Billing address is same as shipping address" checkbox above the billing address fields. This seems like the better, more common user experience.
(2) Add shipping address fields to the contact profile and rename "address" fields to billing address. Use the shipping and billing addresses as defaults for purchase for logged in users. Sync the shipping address to Salesforce.

Add pre-checked email opt in box on a check out page
Email list building: Add a pre-checked "Opt in" email box to a page in the check out process so that opt in is the default.
1 voteWe already opt all new contacts into our Routefinder, Conservation Currents and Book email newsletters by default. It’s easy to opt out later on the website or in an email newsletter that is received. We decided thi sis all we need and that doing this in the checkout process would be overkill.

Pre-order/Backorder vs. Shopping Cart Clarification GH3072/3547
As a user, when pre/backordering something show me a notification that this process is separate from my other items (if I have other available items in my cart).
I'd like to see some sort of alert during/before reaching "/delayed-shipping" page that back/pre orders are not processed at the same time as the rest of the items in my cart. Reason being I'd like to avoid confusion during/after user has input all their information.
Ideally, is it possible to...
1) Check if the cart is currently empty (if so, proceed as usual)
2) If cart /= empty, perhaps an in-frame pop-up?…3 votesCompleted · AdminJeff Bowman (Associate Director of Information Technology, The Mountaineers) respondedCompleted Oct 2021.

Pre-order/Backorder Quantity GH3044
As a website visitor pre-ordering or backordering a a book, allow me to enter a quantity that is applied when I click the "pre-order" or "backorder" button, and allow me to change this on the payment page, so that I may pre- or backorder more than one copy of a book at a time.

Catch and Handle API Tax Rate Exceptions GH2919
As a site visitor purchasing books and/or merchandise, show me an error message if the tax API fails so I know how to get my order placed. We think the best is to retry a few times and if that fails use a fallback rate from site settings.

Re-sync Failed Plone-Acumen Transactions GH2921
Add a "Re-sync to Acumen button to receipt pages to enable Mountaineers staff to re-sync a transaction to Acumen. With power outages, Acumen posting, and server maintenance, this will make it easier to get any missed orders to Acumen without having to enter them manually.

Make contributors other than "authors" be eligible for search GH3167
When we perform a search on mb.org using contributor names, currently only "by" works. We'd like to make it so that searches for all contributors (photos by, epilogue by, etc. etc.) also works in search.

Adding a "Related Items" section for additional information on Book product page GH3074
Add a new tab alongside "Description" "Video" and "Reviews" for related items, especially blogs.
The idea is to present complementary content when the product page is the landing page, esp. considering the % of our page sessions are from New Users.
Aside from links to our blog, other items could be downloads, related events* -- it's also why I don't want to just call this tab "Blogs," as it doesn't necessarily reflect the full scope.
*Though personally, I think this should be its own tab, and would be pulled automatically from Author Events calendar.
I thought about just linking whatever…
