make maximum wind, waves, and current required fields for Sea Kayaking activities
Sea Kayaking activities have fields for maximum wind, waves, and current. Currently these are optional. Because they are optional, some leaders do not fill them in. This omits critical information about how difficult a trip may be. Leaders should think about and enter specific values for each these. Making them required will enforce good practice.
At the 2025 Sea Kayak Summit, we voted to make these fields required, if it was technically possible. This is the request to do so.
10 votesThis idea is closing as not complete. The specific solution provided is not possible and the workaround options are not sufficient per the committee that requested it.

Remember me on login
I frequently need to login to the mountaineers website, sometimes multiple times per day which is a bit annoying. It would be great to have a remember me checkbox to persist the login.
It appears this was a feature until 2023 https://feedback.mountaineers.org/forums/273688-general-feedback/suggestions/15859615-remember-me-function-on-log-in-page-is-broken-gh20
And a 2024 post was declined without reasoning https://feedback.mountaineers.org/forums/273688-general-feedback/suggestions/47641436-keep-me-logged-in
It would be great if an explanation could be given on why this isn't possible, or options for how some login persisting could be supported.

Alerts & Notifications Preferences for "Audience" Field
Members are able to setup alerts and notifications based on activity type (e.g. "day hiking"), branch, etc. It should be possible to configure notifications based on the audience (e.g. "adults", "20-30 somethings", etc.). This would allow for members to include notifications only for audiences they're interested in.
3 votesHello All,
I am closing this ticket at this time, as we currently lack a sufficient volume of activities under these specific audience types to make filtering effective. While we plan to update our alert notifications to include the "Audience" field, providing better visibility for this data, we want to avoid the risk of new members inadvertently limiting their alerts by selecting filters they don't fully understand. We can revisit this if our audience-specific activity volume supports a different user experience.
To see what updates we have done recently, check out our Technology Changelog.

Provide more clarity or even a link to let students manage their registration from the course activity page itself
Currently the text under register participant banner is clear but I keep getting emails from students on trying to not able to know the steps on how to manage their registration for course activities.
Suggestion:
(1) Add language more clearly on the steps to follow after visiting the course page such as clicking "Manage Registration" OR
(2) If possible, have the link to manage course registration available on all course activities.3 votesThis idea is being marked as closed. There are currently no plans to alter how this banner text shows and it is not possible to put the management course registration pop up on all course activities.

POST THE TIME OF EVENT PRIOR TO SIGN UP
So many activities don't have a time posted for when the event starts. I have to wait till I get an email to see the time and then have to cancel if I'm not available. Why is this happening?

Add LinkedIn to Website Footer
The content & community engagement team would like to add a LinkedIn logo and link to the Mountaineers Programs Footer. This should not be applied to the Mountaineers Books Footer.

Show leader notes again when requesting leader permission
Many times, people don't read leader notes when requesting leader permission.
Perhaps the leader notes could be shown again when requesting leader permission to ensure that people read them.
The leader notes may contain additional pertinent information about the activity which participants should consider when requesting permission, or may contain specific requests for information, so requests missing this information end up being incomplete.
1 voteThis is being closed as not complete. The leadership permission form is the same across all activity requests so it is not possible for us to pull in a specific activity leader notes into this form.

Leader permission requests should go to co-leaders and mentored leaders as well
Currently, even if an activity with leader permission has a co-leader who is an admin and a contact, that person does not receive leader permission request emails.
The same would apply for mentored leaders.
1 voteThis idea is being set to closed due to the changes made to the Leadership Permission process which will allow notifications/visibility to leadership permission requests a different way.
Those who applied for leadership permission will now be added to the roster with an "applied" registration status with a link to their request form. Anyone who can see the roster will be able to view these forms and members.
If coleaders/mentors/etc. want to be notified when someone applies, they can sign up for registration notifications which will email them when someone has applied.

Support markdown for formatting all input
The website currently uses a rich text to format all content on the website. This can be convenient for some but it can be frustrating and slow to work with. Markdown is easy to write and understand (https://www.markdownguide.org/). It has become a common option on many websites. Please consider supporting markdown as an option and let users specify it as their default preference so that they can use it without having to select it each time they want to post an activity/comment/etc.
1 voteHello Josh -
I wanted to follow up on this request. For times where we want users to be able to use formatting, we use RichText fields. While I am sure many users would be familiar with markdown, most probably would not so if we were going to help allow additional formatting we would want to go a route that is easy to use for all members. That said, I am going to close this idea but keep the carpool idea open for now as I do see benefit in making this field more adaptable.

Semi-commercial glacier /basic climbs
It is very hard to sign up for glacier climbs or basic climbs unless you are a student. There is a huge waiting list for those non-students and it is hard to track. Then it is hard to plan ahead if suddenly you are being moved from waiting list. I propose to create structure where there will be opportunity for paying extra but it will be for members who graduated from basic or have skills but don’t have time to track various waiting lists and just want to climb. I found zero climbs for non-students. I would gladly pay to…
1 voteThank you for submitting your idea! I appreciate the frustration you feel and as an organization we will explore how we can provide more open climbs within our dedicated but limited climb leader volunteer pool. However, it is not possible for us to apply any sort of fees to our climbs as the permits we acquire do not allow for it.

Enable two committees (hiking and uran walks as an example) to jointly sponsor or offer a course, seminar, clinic or activity.
Enable the option of having multiple committees able to offer a course, seminar, clinic, event or activity. It would involve being able to use a template that includes both committees collaborating on a joint offering.

Thank you for raising this idea! I looked into this and unfortunately it is not something we can support. It is not a technical constraint, but a constraint on how our branches/committee are governed/chartered. We need to have only one committee "own" that activity/trip. Becca would be able to explain further if you have more questions.
Best, Devin Lampe

Demographics age group is not optional
The member profile section "Demographics" is marked as "optional'. But it contains an age group. If this is not modified, it seems to default to youth, which prevents the member from signing up for anything until their parent fills out some forms. One adult friend skipped this optional section and was confused by his inability to register for anything. So, demographics is not entirely optional. It has effects....
Therefor, maybe change the wording or something?1 voteHello Tom -
I can help shed some light on what may be happening to your friend. While we ask for age range as part of demographics, we do not use that age range for any website permissions/functionality - they are purely optional! When you sign up as a member or guest member, you must sign our waiver and provide your birthdate. This is how we calculate someone's age and understand if they fall under "Adult" or "Youth" programming and form requirements. There have been some cases where someone does not enter in their correct birthdate or some loop holes that sometimes occur if someone's first interaction with us was a purchasing an online book. I am happy to look into the specific use case you mentioned of your friend if you/they would be willing to share their email/name. That can be sent to me directly at devinl@mountaineers.org!

Block members from seeing my profile
Similar to facebook, allow a member to block other members from seeing their profile or activities. This includes blocking:
- access to profile
- visibility of name on rosters
- visibility of trips/events/activities where the person is the primary leaderThis should override leader privileges (and possibly staff privileges)
3 votesHello All -
We have explored this feature but unfortunately it is not something we can build into our website today or in the future. This type of logic not only would be very complicated to build for our site, but would cause downstream impacts to roster management and availability which would be difficult to work around.

My Activities text when empty
The text that shows when I have no future activities says: "You haven't registered for any activities yet." This is false, as the extensive activity history that opens below testifies.
I propose language such as: "You have no upcoming activities."
1 voteGiven the earlier comment, the information loads after a few seconds to showcase all past activities, so there is no need for a language change.

Enhancing Mountaineers Operations with ERP Integration
Hi everyone,
I wanted to share some thoughts on how integrating an ERP system, like Odoo, could significantly enhance our operations at the Mountaineers. By streamlining processes such as member management, event coordination, and financial tracking, an ERP system can help us achieve greater efficiency and accuracy. For instance, automating routine tasks and centralizing data would not only reduce manual errors but also provide us with valuable insights into our organization's performance. I believe exploring ERP solutions could be a game-changer in optimizing our workflows and improving overall member satisfaction.

Thank you for submitting your idea! We currently use a mix of enterprise softwares to meet the needs you mentioned for membership management, event/activity management, and more and are not in the market to redesign/migrate as our solution is meeting our needs.

CHS course needs to be less restrictive
I strongly believe that the CHS course needs to loosen their restrictions on when certain requirements need to be completed. I completed my stewardship activity outside the specified time window but was told that it is too late for it to count for course completion. That keeps me from being able to participant in alumni activities. Isn't the whole purpose of the course to be encouraging, supportive, and get people outside? This course is doing the exact opposite by implementing these rigid requirements. You are making it harder to graduate from this course than to graduate from college!
1 voteHello Jennifer -
Appreciate you providing your feedback on your experience. For feedback on courses or activities, we provide an avenue for your input to go directly to the course leaders. To find the feedback link, you can follow the steps below.
1. Go to your profile.
2. Select "My Courses & Programs"
3. Select "Give" in the feedback column for that specific course.
This website is meant to gather ideas outside of specific courses/activities. That said, I am going to close this ticket, but will make sure to pass along your note above to the CHS committee.

Request new Opportunity type for auction purchases (salesfroce)
Auction purchases are a transaction type of its own, that typically do not count as a donation. Unless the amount paid over value is $1000 or more over the value of the item, we do not consider it as part of peak society.
I've been thinking about this for years, and fully believe this will help us better track and manage a donor experience and identify / qualify someone as generally transactional in nature or philanthropic. It will also allow us to easily filter out auction support from donation rollups. It will require some significant clean up of past transactions,…
1 voteThis idea is closing as we have solved the need creating a new 'Paid Over Value' and using that new value in our summaries.

Add a "Tag" option to pages and a "Suitcase" where i can store pages i want to consult again
Like on Alltrails, WTA, etc. I'd like to be able to build my own bespoke repository of pages from the portal that i want to be able to easily access again and again -- whether it be references to how to use the portal, or blog entries, or trailheads, routes, etc.
Best would be to be able to sort them into something like sub-folders, or tag them with my own memorable tags to be able to manage them when it starts bulking up.2 votesHello Dominique -
Thank you for submitting your idea last year! We always look for additional feedback and ideas to see what fits within our development budget and product roadmap. This idea was reviewed internally and with our developers and unfortunately is going to close. Developing this sort of personalized tag on our content would be significant and not something we can prioritize over the improvements to our core functionality. Thanks again for participating in our feedback to make our community's technology offerings stronger. If something changes in the future and this is possible we can revisit!

Keep Me Logged In!
For the Mountaineers website when logging in there used to be a feature to check a check box that says "Remember Me" which would keep you logged in. Now that feature is no longer there and I keep getting logged out of the website, and have to keep logging back in which is a bit of an inconvenience and annoyance.
Can the Mountaineers add that feature back to the login so I can stay logged in and I'll have to keep logging in every time I visit the website?
