This forum is for you to share ideas and exchange feedback with Mountaineers members, guests, volunteers, and leadership. You may vote for or comment on any idea and will be notified of its status changes. Your feedback helps us prioritize projects and improvements for our organization.

We receive lots of great ideas, so please search the forum before adding a new one. If your idea is not yet in our forum, please post it with a simple title and an explanation, and how it could benefit The Mountaineers. You’ll get an email reminder to do so just after the activity. If your feedback is of urgent nature it may be best to contact the chair of the committee that sponsors that program directly.   1. Cicero Congressional District Matching for Salesforce Contacts ~Salesforce

    Our colleagues at American Whitewater turned us on to Salesforce congressional district matching through an application called Cicero. Having this kind of legislative information handy for our Salesforce contacts would be very valuable for our conservation and advocacy program, both from a digital advocacy standpoint, as well as for future congressional events/legislator engagements. American Whitewater staff found the application affordable and valuable for them. Cicero can be used in conjunction with a Tech Soup account. Thanks for your consideration!

  2. “Don’t Forget to Volunteer” Reminder Email ~Salesforce

    Please create another auto generated email that is sent to folks after six months from graduation (i.e. have earned a course badge) to remind them to consider volunteering.   3. Update "Congratulations on your new course badge!" Email

    Volunteers and I are working on clarifying pathways to volunteering. One of our ideas was to modify the “congrats on your new course badge” email that is sent to course graduates. We were thinking of adding emphasis to instruction and other volunteer leadership resources to create a pipeline from course graduate to volunteer instructor. With the hope that they will consider other volunteer leadership roles in the near future.   4. Add "Checkout as Guest" Option for Purchasing Gift Memberships

    Currently, there is no option to checkout as a guest when attempting to purchase a gift membership and no error message or prompt to login. The item is removed from cart at checkout screen without explanation.

  5. Allow trip leaders to require additional skill/course badges per trip

    Currently, the trip templates set the course or skill badges required for participants (or other leaders) to sign-up for trips. The problem is that these only specify the minimum set that could apply to that template.

    I would like, as a trip leader, the ability to require specific badges on a per-trip basis.

    To get concrete with an example: the Winter Scrambling template requires only that a participant be a graduate of the Scrambling or Climbing courses. However, the standards state that "leaders may require additional prerequisites on Winter Scramble trips". A common prerequisite a leader might wish to add…

    With our current website configuration, we aren't able to accommodate this request. We have marked this as a low priority for now, and as we continue to make improvements to skill badge functionality and implementation we will keep this feedback under consideration. In the meantime, the leader’s notes field can be used to specify additional skills required beyond the activity template prerequisites, and vetted through Leader Permission requests.

  6. Aggregate Lecture and Field Trip Feedback under Course

    Courses are usually made of separate lecture and field trip activities to which students can provide feedback. To review all the feedback for the course , a person has to open all the activities. It would be nice to aggregate all of this feedback under the course and maybe course temple with which they are associated.

  7. Phone Number Validation

    I noticed in one of my activities that a member put their e-mail in the phone number field. This should not be allowed. Phone numbers should require validation to ensure that they satisfy the expected format.

  8. Stop showing activities that occur TODAY in the "My Activities History" section

    Right now, any event I am leading today shows up as the first thing in the "My Activities History" section on my profile. However, this is (and always has been) very annoying, because I have to scroll down to find it. Due to recent (and welcome) website optimizations, the history section loads more slowly, so I have to wait for it to load before I can open the activity I'm leading that day in order to print the roster.

  9. Leader's Permission Request activation date

    It is unclear when leader permission for an activity should be requested. Some leaders may intend for the request to occur after registration opens, but many requests are in advance. Wise trip leaders make it clear in the description. It might take some burden off leaders to assign a date to this that is visible on the activity.

Leader’s Permission can be a critical tool for ensuring a successful trip, but good communication is key to avoiding frustration.   10. View PDF files stored on the website in the browser

    Allow PDF (and other browser viewable files) to be viewed in the browser.

    The Seattle Sea Kayaking Committee is storing minutes as PDF documents. When you click on the file name (blue) what happens depends on the browser you are using. Some browsers (Firefox) allows the user to choose to download or view in a browser window. Other browsers (Safari and Chrome on Mac) always download the file.

    If I just want to view the file, having it downloaded to my computer is inconvenient. Now I must navigate to the downloaded file, open it, and later decide if I want…

  11. Filters at top of site search results do not work as expected GH3660

    Enter text in site search bar in the header and hit enter. Results are shown with four buttons at top (Find Books, Find Events, Find Courses, Find Activities). Hit "Find Books" and the results are refreshed and show me things not related to what I searched for (not sticky to the search term I entered). Expected result is the search term result list is filtered to just books. See screenshots.

  12. Expired Youth Forms Notification

    Youth forms expire every year. It would be super beneficial if there could be an email notification to families when the form(s) expire. Currently I have to go into every child's profile, check to see if their forms are current or expired, and then email each family that has a child with expired forms. This takes up a significant amount of time that I could be using to improve the curriculum and trips for our youth. Expired forms make it so the families can't sign up for trips; through observation, the families already have a hard enough time figuring out…

  15. Lead Activity Again via "Single Activity Cloning" GH3234

    To make it easier for leaders to schedule an activity that they've already led, add what is sort of a copy-and-paste/single clone feature and display on the Lead Activity Again button in the "Manage Activity" portlet.

    This new "single clone" feature would:
    - Create a copy of the activity
    - Place it in the same folder as the activity being copied
    - Increment it's URL as if it were made by staring with the route/place
    - Run all of error and conflict checks
    - Display the newly added/copied activity's edit form with any errors

  17. Give site admins permission to 'remove' people from rosters. GH3329

    In order to prevent folks who have been canceled from moving back to the top of the wait list as a result of their original registration time (this happens in CHS often), allow staff to 'remove' the person from the roster. This will mean they receive a new registration time every time they move from 'canceled' to 'wait listed'.

  18. Pre-orders & Backorders: Better Handle Failed Credit Card Transactions GH3285

    When the nightly delayed orders process runs, nothing is done with those with failed credit cards as best I can tell. I am not sure what's best to do here, but I think the options are:

    1. Cancel the backorder and update the Salesforce opportunity's Stage to Online Credit Card Problem.

    2. Mark the pre-order or backorder as Credit Card Declined on the website and Online Credit Card Problem in Salesforce, and add a "Buy Now" button/link for the customer to move the item, shipping address, and shipping method to the "regular" shopping cart and take them to the checkout page.

  19. Make contributors other than "authors" be eligible for search GH3167

    When we perform a search on mb.org using contributor names, currently only "by" works. We'd like to make it so that searches for all contributors (photos by, epilogue by, etc. etc.) also works in search.

  20. Pre-orders & Backorders: Add Next Available Date GH2991

    • Add a Next Available Date to the Book content type.
    • Add it to the Acumen-Plone nightly sync: InvProduct.NextRelease_Date
    • Sync it to Salesforce: Product.NextAvailableDate__c
    • Replace now hidden "Out of stock" text with: For pre-orders: "This book has not yet been released and will be available {Publication Date}."
    • For backorder: "This book is currently out-of-stock. We will have it back in stock by next available date."
    • Use it for "your credit card is about to expire" pre-order/backorder email alerts
