This forum is for you to share ideas and exchange feedback with Mountaineers members, guests, volunteers, and leadership. You may vote for or comment on any idea and will be notified of its status changes. Your feedback helps us prioritize projects and improvements for our organization.

We receive lots of great ideas, so please search the forum before adding a new one. If your idea is not yet in our forum, please post it with a simple title and an explanation, and how it could benefit The Mountaineers. Please note that all our courses, events, trips, course-related activities, clinics, seminars, and lodge stays have forms for you to give feedback when you participate. You’ll get an email reminder to do so just after the activity. If your feedback is of urgent nature it may be best to contact the chair of the committee that sponsors that program directly.   1. RSS feed for Blog entries

    An RSS feed is an easy way to allow readers to learn of and read blog entries without visiting the site. As it is, I don't remember to visit the site and check the blog often enough. My online reading is almost entirely through RSS feeds to the new sites and magazines I follow. Building an RSS feed is straightforward, does not have to display in the user interface, and requires no maintenance.

  2. Add email alert for canceled activities

    Seems as if several outings I was interested in for this summer have been canceled including one I was going to register for today. It would be great if a message about cancellations could go out in the same fashion as announcements for new activities so we don't hold dates open on our calendars or make travel arrangements for events which aren't taking place.

  3. Trigger a notification for Senior Rate Eligibility when Members turn 65 ~Salesforce

    Many members appreciate the convenience of the auto renewal feature for membership dues but for members who begin their enrollment at the Adult rate and turn 65 before card expiry, this may result in several years of paying at a higher rate than necessary. Including a notification on their 65th birthday, similar to the one sent out when members turn 18, will allow these members to make a fully informed decision about their options.

  4. My Activities...More speed, please GH3433

    It is taking such a long time now to post and edit activities, load pages, etc. I spend a lot of time waiting after pushing "Save" and "Edit" buttons. Sometimes, the system times out. Other times, it's not clear if pushing the Save and Edit buttons even worked. It is 10-15 seconds here and there, but it adds up when one is doing a lot of editing, posting, roster clean up, etc. Thank you.

    We just made several changes aimed at improving website speed, particularly for loading the My Activities pages and searches like Find Activities.

    For the My Activities, the page header and current/future activities should now load immediately (worst case in a few seconds). “Loading” is displayed while the past activities are being compiled. How long it takes to display them depends on how many there are, but load times should be much faster now.

    To view your My Activities page, you might also need to refresh that page. With all the improvements, it’s probably also a good idea to clear your browser’s cache and then reload your My Activities page.

  5. Give activity co-leaders automatic permisson to see rosters

    Currently it is apparently necessary for a co-leader to be made an activity admin or a committee admin in order to see the roster for that activity, adding another step for the primary leader. Can we not remove extra keystrokes here for our busy volunteers? If we make someone a co-leader we trust them to do everything we would do as a leader.

    First, anyone who is to be a co-leader should already be on a committee roster (any committee roster as a leader) whcih means they could easily be the Primary Leader. Why would this ever not be the case?

    Second, anyone on a roster may view and mange the “team roster,” the one that that is accessed from the "Manage Activity " portlet or “Roster” in the Admin Panel, if the “Admins” box in their activity roster record is checked.

    So the only added step for adding a co-leader to an activity roster is to check the “Admins” box. This is the first field after looking up the person being added and has help text explaining why this box might be checked. Checking a box, one click, does not seem overly burdensome, especially in light of the many other needs and desires for our website.

  6. Limit adding more than 1 duplicate profile and limiting duplicates overall GH3636

    Member services has seen a significant increase in the overall number of duplicates in the past 6-12 months. This has meant there have been a significant increase in login troubles for members, an increase in login-related inquiries. Member services has also been unable to keep up with the constantly growing number of duplicate accounts. Since December 2020, we have seen approximately 3000 duplicate pairs emerge - that's approximately 1000 pairs or 500 duplicated accounts per month.

    We believe there are a few things that could be done to reduce the number of duplicates overall.

  7. Clarify language for profile management when adding family member GH3554

    We've received a number of calls lately from folks who have a family membership. They go to add an adult family member, but get stuck when they are required to select whether 'I will manage the account for the youth' or 'the youth will manage their own profile, but I will sign their waiver and manage their account.' It is confusing that they have to choose one of these options when they are not adding a youth family member to their account.

    I think changing the language to something like these two options would suffice to reduce confusion:

  8. Phone support for Elder members who do not use the internet

    I often hear this feedback but I don't think I've done a great job documenting it, so here goes.
    Today I spoke with 50 year member Diana Edgar and I thanked her and let her know her of recent lifetime membership.

  9. Leader's Permission Request activation date

    It is unclear when leader permission for an activity should be requested. Some leaders may intend for the request to occur after registration opens, but many requests are in advance. Wise trip leaders make it clear in the description. It might take some burden off leaders to assign a date to this that is visible on the activity.

  10. Satellite communicator contact information

    It would be useful to have satellite communicator addresses on the roster along with contact information. This could be voluntarily entered on the member page, not publicly visible, just of use by the roster, similar to the emergency contact.

    The reasoning: Unless replying to a message, a person's Garmin InReach can only be contacted directly using this InReach address. However, these are seldom shared among party members. The ability to directly contact a party member via satellite is a powerful tool in an emergency. Separated party members could communicate with each other. Overdue parties might be contacted.     This page has confused me a few times. The Seattle Park Department does not manage reservations. It would be nice to have updated information about the south wall here.

  12. View PDF files stored on the website in the browser

    Allow PDF (and other browser viewable files) to be viewed in the browser.

    The Seattle Sea Kayaking Committee is storing minutes as PDF documents. When you click on the file name (blue) what happens depends on the browser you are using. Some browsers (Firefox) allows the user to choose to download or view in a browser window. Other browsers (Safari and Chrome on Mac) always download the file.

  13. Make it more clear that a member is under the age of 18

    I can't guarantee that any of my volunteer instructors are "youth qualified" so it should be more clear on a member's profile that they are under the age of 18.

  14. Leader's Permission Required SHOULD MEAN LEADER'S PERMISSION REQUIRED

    It's hard enough dealing with the instructors and other participants that can not or will not read and understand the posting of an activity, course, field trip, ANYTHING let alone dealing with someone that registers without getting permission to do so. What is the point of having a check box or radio button if there is no functionality behind it?

  15. Additional Roles for Course Rosters

    For Course rosters people can be associated with one of a hard-coded list of roles and can be advertised as a public contact for the course in that role. We are proposing that the list of roles be extended to better support current common practices. Specifically, we propose adding the following roles:

    Co-leader
    Assistant Leader
    Content Manager

    The Co-leader and Assistant Leader roles are self explanatory. Larger courses may want to show multiple leaders as public contacts but still be able to identify a single person as the primary leader.

  16. Additional Positions for Committee Rosters

    For Committee rosters people can be associated with one of a hard-coded list of positions and can be advertised as a public committee contact in that position. The way Mountaineers Committees are typically administered has changed over the last few years. We are proposing that the list of positions be extended to better support current common practices.

    We propose adding the following positions:

    Safety
    Vice Chair
    Chair Elect
    Chair Emeritus

    "Safety" is meant to indicate the Safety Officer. Most Committees are now basing their Committee Charter on the Clubwide charter template, which specifies that the committee have a Safety Officer.…

  17. Response to feedback in an email

    We still are constantly fighting to create a culture to provide more feedback, near misses, and such. If the feedback survey is short and also can be directly responded via email - we may see some more reports.
    Also, "please share why you choose above rating" questions don't return much responses and suggest combining it with "is there anything else that you'd like to add" or "do you have any additional comments about the learning environment" question with a change to the text to reflect the same.

  18. Searchable committee minutes

    We hold meetings, take minutes, and archive them. The ability to search past minutes will be very useful. In fact, I think that searching for when the committee discussed some topic - and what was decided - will be the most common way that I reference our meeting minutes.

  19. Filters at top of site search results do not work as expected GH3660

    Enter text in site search bar in the header and hit enter. Results are shown with four buttons at top (Find Books, Find Events, Find Courses, Find Activities). Hit "Find Books" and the results are refreshed and show me things not related to what I searched for (not sticky to the search term I entered). Expected result is the search term result list is filtered to just books. See screenshots.

  20. Add MountainQueers to Search

    Add MountainQueers as affinity group to green search bar, similar to how we have "Singles", "Families", etc. If possible make this an easier area to update for the future as we look to expand our affinity groups.
