Feature Request - Expiring Badge Notification ~SFOnly
As a user I would like to be notified prior to my badge expiring so that I can arrange to meet requirements or arrange for an extension given that I have a badge that has an expiration date. The problem to avoid is people losing their privileges without notice and being unpleasantly surprised.
Then, when the expiration date is within 90 and 30 days from expiring:
A notification of what badge is about to expire and when will be sent to me (User) 90 days and 30 days prior to the expiration date.
A notification will be sent to the Branch/Activity committee members 30 days prior to the expiration date listing the:
- User’s Name
- User’s email address
- The Badge that is about to expire and its
- Expiration date
Exceptions to this rule would be badges with no expiration date attached to them.
Examples of where this would be useful include
- Intermediate Climbing Student Status: privileges to sign up for Intermediate climbs
- Trip Leader Status: privileges to post trips
- Instructor Status: privileges to instruct
Completed Apr 2022. And email will be sent for all course, skill, and QYL (Qualified Youth Leader) badges that have a duration when the badge holder's expiration date is within 90 days and then 30 days.

Shouldn't this apply to membership too? How did I just have a member who's membership expired in 2019 sign up as an instructor for my 2021 Wilderness Navigation Course?

A badge for which this is really useful is "Qualified Youth Leader". It is valid for 3 years and really needs to be current for leaders involved in Youth Programs. Because the renewal is straight forward but a little time consuming, an advanced notification would prevent Youth Leaders from being engaged in activities with an expired qualification.
Never Mind! I just checked my profile. If I mouse over the badge, the relevant dates come up. Very nice, but you have to discover it on your own. I will pass this information on to our folks.

Though the examples in the original posting were about student and instructor expirations, which are relevant to some programs but not others, this would be of interest clubwide for navigation and first aid badges. If memory serves, navigation is required to be recertified every two years and first aid badges every three years (or something like that -- the exact time periods might be different). Sending people a notification when these badges are about expire would be helpful.

The only graduate badges that expire are Navigation and First Aid along with all of the student badges. Students are usually on top of their course requirements and deadlines, so I think we need more graduate and/or leader badges that expire and that are used as prerequisites for trips before this is needed or has any real value.

Jeff, would it be possible to incorporate branch and an external data source (i.e. a simple table hidden in the back end) into this? If so, each branch can be independent in what they determine for expiration periods. I suspect trying to get each branch and program to agree on expiration standards will never happen.

I'm curious, what badges expire and how is the expiration date set or adjusted? Are just talking about the old "good through" date for course registrations, or what?
