Improve Drill Down Navigation in Left Side Bar
I waste a lot of time navigating up and down the hierarchy page-by-page. Certainly, the breadcrumbs and the navigation tree in the left side bar are a great help for more effecient navigation.
Unfortunately, the left sidebar is somewhat limited because at certain levels the expand/collapse arrows no longer work. For example, when you encounter "committees", you cannot drill down further. Instead, you must move your attention to the body of the page and choose a committee from there. Then the hierarchy in the side bar miraculously expands and you can continue drilling down from there. (Until you reach another committees…
1 voteAs you noted, one can now drill down at the committee level. We cannot do this for the branch “home page” because branches requested a home page style that did NOT include the left navigation panel. You do get the lefty navigation back once you’ve gone to the Branch News, Courses & Activities or About Us page.

Publicly accessible API
As a member of the Mountaineers, I'd love to give back in a way that I have particular expertise.
It would be great of the website had a public facing REST API for exposing data such as events and classes.
At least in a read capacity. My particular goal would be to write an Android (and possibly iOS) app to browse the events and what not.
It would be great to have easy native access to my up coming events, and be able to launch navigation to the event right from the app.
I have extensive experience writing and working…
18 votesWe receive a lot of offers from IT folks offering to help, particularly folks with development experience. While we appreciate it, our website is not terribly complicated but is incredibly specific to our organization. To effectively play in that space, someone needs to be both a master of our technology stack AND have a detailed and nuanced understanding of the interplay between volunteer needs, user behaviors, and how the backend systems sync and impact each other.
For that reason, we have chosen to hire staff to run our IT needs even though we have volunteers who could do it, just as we have chosen to hire a CEO even though we have volunteers with executive leadership experience.
We also discussed the idea of giving a technology committee access to our GitHub and developers to support development, or find another way to get volunteers involved “since their time is free”. And…

Volunteer Recognition Badges ~WebsiteContent
We have Super Volunteer and Key Leader Badges. What other ideas do you have for volunteer recognition badges? This input, combined with our current and future website abilities will help us make the best decisions as we develop ways to recognize the hard work that our volunteers do.
1 voteWe shoudl do this as a survey to our volunteers. It’s too hard to get responses for this kind of a question here.

Put Instructor Opportunities in with Find Activities SD360
For those of us not required to volunteer for a class, we were more apt to sign up as instructors or for classes when the listings were mixed with activities. We search by date, not necessarily opportunity type.
2 votesWe significantly improved our site-wide search so you may find everything in one search: activities, instructor opportunities, etc. You’ll find the search box in the upper left part of the header on every page in our website. View http://feedback.mountaineers.org/forums/273688-general-feedback/suggestions/7053736-improve-site-wide-search-sd360 fro more information about this improvement.

Activities can be scheduled for a route/place that has not been published, but only the author and staff can see it. All others will get an error. The more complete the content, the quicker we can review and publish. If you have an immediate need, please feel free to call our Member Services Team.

Improve site wide search SD360
Always show text box with search button in the header of the website, the magnify glass doesn't look like a search button the way other websites do. - suggestion from Focus Groups
In site search show summary view of course, activity and events. Bring search filters over to the left hand side which would allow you to search for activities, events and courses all in the same place. It is important that start date of the activity range is part of this site wide search. Make it so that leaders and admins can search for things like activity templates or…
6 votesWe added a box next to the magnify glass to make it more evident that you can search mountaineers.org
The search now allows you to easily filter by content type more easily like file or course or activity or member (Contact).
The search is by relevance but there are now search features that allow you to additionally filter by created date or start date or A-Z etc.
We encourage you to go ahead and try it out and let us know if it appears there is a filter missing or another way you’d like search results displayed.

Track Leaders, Instructors and Members better on Committee Rosters including Automatically Assigning Leader Badges SD134/SD580
Right now you are added as a leader to a committee and Member Services gets an email notification that requires them to add the badge. Leader web rights however are instantly granted with the addition to the roster.
Expiration dates for each, automatic leader/instructor badge assignment/removal, roster removal if none remain. Add committee member checkbox. Bulk update tools for managing roles/expiration dates. Determine what an instructor really is.
8 votesWe added fields for tracking committee member, leader and instructor expiration dates, and automatically assign or remove the leader badge specified on the committee.
Additional details were sent to committee chairs on Nov 20. See the tech blog post, https://www.mountaineers.org/blog/2-9-many-small-improvements, for more info.

Reduce number of clicks to access specific class rosters SD360
Reduce number of clicks to access specific class roster- maybe allow users to "favorite" the classes they need to access often (esp for committee members who are not registered for the course in question). - Suggestion from Adam from Focus groups
0 votesWe have improved our new site wide search. Please check out the new search filters and let us know if there is anything else that would be useful.

We recently added a “resources” capability to our Routes & Places. We can use it to add appropriate links to Peak Bagger. See the “Enhanced Trip Navigation Resources” blog post at https://www.mountaineers.org/blog/enhanced-trip-navigation-resources.
We can also link to the Peak Bagger Club lists in our Award (aka Peak Pin) Badges at https://www.mountaineers.org/membership/badges/award-badges/all.

Preview Activity before saving
There should be a way to preview an activity before submitting it. Currently one saves and then edits (submitted by Henry Romer during Focus Groups).
1 voteLeaders can change their trip to Private state which is a “review” state. When an activity is private it will still show up in a leader’s My Activities area but not in the search area for the general public.
We chose to make activities automatically published because that is what most leaders requested, especially because you can specify open and close registration dates. And you can always go in and edit your activity.

Download Roster: Have option to download only those selected GH1132
Right now the download roster brings everyone on the list, it would be cool to be able to select a portion of the roster and download this portion for management for all rosters (committee, course and activity). - Suggestion from Focus Groups
1 voteYou can now pick whatever part of the roster you want to download!

Measure what we care about at the member, committee, and branch levels. SD317
There are a number of statistical and reporting needs and desires that many people spend a great deal of time trying to capture. I would like to see us develop metrics and create "dashboards" that automate this data collection and allow us to quickly identify trends in the data that help us plan for the most successful future. For example:
Branches and Committees often want to know (or would be interested in): # of Leaders, # of trips being posted, % of closed out trips, #of courses offered, # of students in courses, # of participants on trips sponsored by…
10 votesCompleted Final Part Jun 2018
The final piece we want to have available is aggregate committee leader feedback. This feedback allows committee admins to enter an activity or course start date and see all feedback for that outing in one place. It also allows committee admins to quickly see Leader feedback in one place.
We currently have monthly dashboards being sent to each branch with information about the number of trips, courses and membership information.
We also have the member services team pulling trip statistics and additional committee reporting via requests to info@mountaineers.org. We strive for a 48 business hour turnaround on these requests.

Skill Badges SD312/313/415
Skill Badges: Documents skills (not courses) Mountaineers members have gained through Mountaineers courses OR that have been demonstrated to and vetted by Mountaineers Leaders.
How do skills interact with courses?
• Students can see what skills a course teaches
• Instructors can see what skills students have, and allow them to miss certain field trips if students already have those skills (at the instructor’s discretion)
• Skill badges help expedite equivalency, or negate the need for equivalency. How do skills interact with trips?
• Trips can add more detail to prerequisites. Students will be able to participate in Alpine Rock…4 votesAssigning “earned” skill badges for successfully completing an activity. This will be most useful for stewardship activities and clinics and seminars.

Set up automated autorenewal email and reminder about lapsed membership
Not currently automated, would be time saver to have more of these automated to ensure member renewal.
0 votesYes, emails are now being sent reminding members on the 15th of the month that their card will be charged and emails going when card is charged and if their card payment fails
