Add Email Alerts & Notifications Preferences to My Profile SD508/599/600/601
This could be allowing people to request an email notification for an activity or course when it becomes available. It could include notifications to committee chairs when leaders list activities sponsored by that committee. Please describe below what you'd specifically like to see as far as email notifications go that would help you sign up for the activities you want or help you manage your committee etc.
April Leader Survey showed interest in:
Ability to receive a calendar reminder when registration is opening for an activity
Ability to receive a reminder notification about your trip this weekend
Completed Jun 2019.

This is such a wonderful feature, Jeff! Thanks for working on it for us.

Yes, I would like to have this feature, it would help in planning. Many activities open for registration atl a date and time in the future. it would be nice to see all my favorited activities in my mountaineers profile. This would also help chose between favorites when it comes time to actually registering.

Yes, I would like to have this feature; some trips fill in less than one hour of posting. Thank you.

I too would like to have the ability to subscribe and unsubscribe to email notifications, in my area(s) of interest (sea Kayaking), when new activities and courses being posted. I'm fine with delaying email notifications until the next day. This give the leader an opportunity (lead time) to target notify members on their own.

I too would like to subscribe to an activity (sea kayaking) and be notified of a new trip.
However many filters you implement, I can imagine people using them. A specific route. A specific weekend. A specific committee. Currently, there are not many sea kayaking trips and the simple ability to get notification of any new trips would be helpful.

Would like to "subscribe" to an activity (e.g. sea kayaking) and receive notice when a new trip is listed.

Would love to give members the ability to opt in to automated email notifications when a new activity, course, seminar or event opens for registration on the website. Participants could choose what activity or course type they want to receive emails about, with 'none' being the default. This is regularly cited to me by members as something they really appreciate about meetups, and I know that there is a scramble leader who has built something outside our system to do this but clunky to get on his list and no filters.

It would be great to be able to favorite or star activities that I'd like to register for once registration is open. Most activities I come across don't open for registration until a date and time in the future. Rather than creating calendar event reminders to register (on my personal gmail) it would be nice to see all my favorited activities in my mountaineers profile. This would also help chose between favorites when it comes time to actually registering.

Please add email and/or text alerts for events on the branch calendar. With profile setting to opt out, of course. And probably with option to suppress the notification on an event-by-event basis.

I agree with Justin below, that the ability for members to set their profile to receive email notifications of activities, seminars and courses in categories that they are interested in would be a big plus and could bring over some people who go on meetups because they get this functionality. Some Mountaineer members are already receiving notifications on new trips through a google group, but only members with the link are able to access this feature.
Meet-up groups already have that technology wherein each member of a group has the option of receiving an email whenever a new trip is listed for that group.

In anticipation of my knee replacements and able to once again do hikes, I was looking through all the routes/places and daydreaming about when I'll be able to visit them. I thought it would be great if I could flag a route/place to a to-do wish list on my profile and by doing so, it would send me an email alert when somebody is leading an activity to those routes/places.

Right now, we can only sign up to receive branch communications/newsletters from our "home" Mountaineers branch. However, depending on where they live/work/play, people may be interested in events going on at other branches. It would be great to be able to sign up to receive newsletters and information about events from any of the branches, not just our home branch. Thank you!

I agree with Justin's comment. However, sending out the email immediately isn't so great and as it gives advantage to those who work in front of computers all day. The emails should be sent out at a specific interval perhaps 6pm PST? and daily just like the google group.

Some Mountaineer members are already receiving notifications on new trips through a google group. Only those students with the link are able to access this feature. There's already enough difficulty for some people to get on trips in order to graduate from their respective courses or to continue to gain experience in those activities for which they have an affinity.
Meet-up groups already have that technology wherein each member of a group has the option of receiving an email whenever a new trip is listed for that group. Should the Mountaineers adopt such programming, each member would be able to opt in to receiving an email announcement of new trips for specific activities: climbing, scrambling, kayaking, etc as soon as they are posted.
The playing field needs to be leveled so that there is equal opportunity for all members.

...and/or some mechanism where people could be notified of a variety of postings. Committee members could use it to ensure oversight and members could keep track of trips they want to sign up for.

This is a good idea and I see it as part of a larger solution I've been drafting. I'm aware that many committees track how and when activities are posted and closed by their Leaders. What I have envisioned on this front is for the site to "Capture" all such data and report it to committee's in the most functional way possible, which would reduce the amount of data collection and analysis that volunteers are doing now. So, for example, I am aware of different committees wanting some or all of the following:
- Number of trips being led
- Activity Close-Out rate
- Number of participants in each trip
- Number of trips per Leader
- Number of incident reports related to trips/courses
- etc. etc.If I'm reading between the lines, there's a desire for you (and other volunteers) to (1) save time collecting data, but to (2) get quality data. Our system is capable of growing in a way that allows this, but it will definitely take some time planning and investment of funds to develop this functionality. Let me know (here) if I'm understanding your needs accurately, whether you'd agree with the larger solution I'm imagining, and what other data might be useful to you and other Leaders. Thanks Erik.

The old system had an option whereby a committee member could be "copied on activities created online". This was a useful function, as it allowed (for example) a Trips Subcommittee member to monitor new trip listings, whether for accuracy or to keep abreast of how many trips are being listed or to ensure that leaders have been approved to lead the type of trip they are listing. This would be a nice function to have back.
