Leader's Permission Required SHOULD MEAN LEADER'S PERMISSION REQUIRED
It's hard enough dealing with the instructors and other participants that can not or will not read and understand the posting of an activity, course, field trip, ANYTHING let alone dealing with someone that registers without getting permission to do so. What is the point of having a check box or radio button if there is no functionality behind it?

Hello All -
I wanted to send out a notice addressing the leader frustration that this ticket highlights and share our plan to address this. I am marking this ticket as closed because even though we have plans that are shared below to address this - it will not functionally prevent someone from signing up and still does require the user to follow instructions. This is not something we would build now or in the near future which is why I am closing this ticket. My hope is that the steps we take below improve the leader (and participant) experience and reduce the confusion that drives participant mistakes.
- Improve Leadership Permission Experience (Done)
- We have made changes the the way that Leadership Permission is presented on activities (see attached image). It now contains resources, a large button, and two checkboxes. The goal is for this to help participants understand Leadership Permission and avoid confusion.
- Enhance Leadership Permission Form (Done)
- We have altered the Leadership Permission Form to accept Rich Text in the comments field. This allows participants to edit and structure their comments (especially when longer) and make it easier for leaders to review submitted forms.
- Moved Leader Notes Above Meeting Place & Time (Done)
- We have moved Leader Notes to be the first section under the Activity. This avoids the user from missing these notes by not selecting [More+]
- Create Consistency in Leader Notes on Permission (Piloting in Seattle Climbing)
- We believe that if there is more consistency in how requirements are presented around Leadership Permission that it will improve the participants experience and help them understand and follow instructions. A template will be piloted and based on the pilot shared as suggestions to other committees.

I agree with Dennis - it would be nice to have a way to let leaders add participants and not let them sign up themselves. I ran into the same problem - people just sign up, even for courses that say you have to be accepted to apply, without saying anything.

Can we simply remove the ability to sign up for a trip that is leader's permission only and require the leader to add people?
When I've seen this happen, there's no communication at all from the participant, so it's hard to understand the context at all.
