Fully integrated Roster Management for Courses with multiple activities, and sections to complete to graduate.
Currently for a Course with multiple required activities one must download multiple CSV files and have the skill to basically develop a one time database and queries to track all students and who has completed what.
It would seem like the software provide would have reporting capabilities and modules that could be user facing to avoid this by using the source database.
We already have the desired functionality. There are “Review” links to everyone’s name on the course roster. Visit https://www.mountaineers.org/volunteers/leader-resources/schedule-a-course-clinic-or-seminar/schedule-a-course-clinic-or-seminar#manage-rosters to learn more.
If there is concern about all students registering for required field trips, be sure that all course activities are listed and open for registration when the course opens for registration. This way participants are prompted to choose activities when they register before getting to the checkout page.

We've received some more information from our course leaders about what they would specifically like to see for better course management that seems like it might be what Jimmy was alluding to on this item. Please comment here with specific details about what you'd like to see in this tool: http://feedback.mountaineers.org/forums/273688-general-feedback/suggestions/34125481-create-a-course-roster-export-that-contains-field

Jimmy,
There were not really any specifics in your request and we do believe we have provided many tools our volunteers can use to manage courses.
Most of our courses require to students to request graduation. The "Review" links in particular was designed to be used to verify that all of the required activities were completed and that all of the required badges were obtained. It might seem more general, but there are often different types of activities that can be used to meet a requirement (e.g. conditioning hikes, scrambles, climbs, etc.). Many leaders have found this utility so useful that we added the "Review" links to activity rosters and will soon add them to committee rosters.
I suspect most course managers review lectures and field trips just after they occur to identify issues with students to help them get on track right away. The on-screen rosters can be sorted by "Participant Result" so it's easy to see who attended and did not and how well they performed at the activity in groups (i.e. now show, needs improvement, etc.).
The one area I do see that could be improved is adding a roster that is compiled from all of the activities where there are multiple options. That would allow you to see one field trip as one roster rather than several individual rosters.
You mentioned an exception report. I suspect we could add a feature to activity rosters (including the idea of a "complied roster" above) that compares that roster to the courses roster in some way--maybe a list of those whose participant result for the activity was NOT "Successful"?
I recommend that you add a new idea with more details and specific examples of what would be helpful so we can better evaluate the idea. It sounds like you've done some of this on your own. Please do add some examples of what you've done that you find helpful--do make sure to strip contact info and replace real names with cartoon character or movie star names.
I hope that helps.

The Review link is by definition is not a report, and in my opinion absurd to think anyone finds clicking through 90 links is a good use of time. Also the Review results are a general, non-specific view.
The request was for a report, in particular exception reporting that would enable a course manager to pin point issues. -
Jimmy,
I just saw this and wanted to let you know that when you view a course roster, each student has two links next to their name, "Edit" and "Review." Clicking the "Review" link will give that student's activity history and earned badges. I think this is what you need or at least much of it. Please me know how how we can improve this or how what you need is different than this.
Thanks!
Jeff
