General Feedback

This forum is for you to share ideas and exchange feedback with Mountaineers members, guests, volunteers, and leadership. You may vote for or comment on any forum idea and will be notified of status changes to that idea. Your feedback helps us prioritize projects and improvements for our organization. We receive lots of great ideas, so please search the forum first before adding a new one. If your idea is not yet in our forum, please post it with a simple title and an explanation of your idea and how it benefits The Mountaineers. If you want to learn more about what has already been developed and what is up next, please visit our Technology Blog. Thank you for your participation!

Please note that all our courses, events, trips, course-related activities, clinics, seminars, and lodge stays have feedback forms so that you give feedback for everything in which you participate. You’ll get an email reminder to do so just after the activity. If your feedback is of urgent nature it may be best to contact the chair of the committee that sponsors that program directly. Not sure who the chair is? Visit our Committee Chair Directory or contact our Member Services Team at info@mountaineers.org.

If there was a safety incident or near miss, you will have the opportunity for submitting an Incident Report after submitting activity feedback. You may also use the Incident Report button on the activity detail page (from your My Activities page) or contact our Safety Committee directly at safety@mountaineers.org.

If you reached this site wanting to report problem behavior or harassment by another member, please submit a Behavioral Complaint Form.

  1. Consolidate Responses on Website Feedback Forms SD672

We updated the responses to some of the "questions" on our feedback survey forms. The aggregated data shows both the old and the new/edited response. To make the data clearer, we should consolidate the old and new response so that are counted as being the same.

  2. Make the Write-In Amount Box on the Donation Page Wider GH2902

On the Donation Pages make the write-in amount box wider. Examples:
    - Donate: https://www.mountaineers.org/donate
    - MAP Scholarship Fund: https://www.mountaineers.org/donate/other-giving-options/map-scholarship-fund (see attached)

Probably as wide as the one on the checkout page (see attached).

  3. Add start month to automated year attached to courses etc

For courses and activities, the year auto-populates in the listing, but the accounting department needs the month to be part of that, otherwise they have to manually go into each listing to find out what month the course happens and where to book the revenue

The automation here is only applied when a course is created, and volunteer course admins can and do change according to their own needs. So it’s best if we handle this in Salesforce. Currently we should be recording revenue based on the transaction date and then using the report that finds all revenue that was collected in the prior fiscal year but is for activities and courses that start in the current fiscal year.

The title for activities is “{activity template title} – {route/place title}” so there is never a year added to its title.

  4. Improve Book Author Import GH2780/2803

    (1) Set up author bios to get exported/imported the same way that we do the book long descriptions, to avoid the need to truncate them.

    (2) In the Acumen-Plone sync, automatically check the "Show in byline" box for all contacts if there are three or fewer authors on the book's roster. Note that we'll manually update book rosters for this when there are four or more on the book's roster.

  6. STOP Allowing Registration to Occur Before Registration Begins

Field Trips are full before registration date. Wtf? This makes registration dates pointless!!! As a new Scrambling student I’m patiently waiting for field registration to begin only to realize they are full prior to registration. Members are fine getting leader’s permission but should have to wait till the registration is open to register not before.

  7. Limiting amount of text for "Featured Authors" on the homepage GH2795

On the books homepage (https://www.mountaineers.org/books), some authors will have a lot more text show up on the "Feature Authors" portlet. Can we limit that to only display a maximum of 10 lines (or whatever looks the nicest), perhaps with a "Read More" link to expand the text if needed

  8. Co-leader and Mentored Leader Activity Roster Automation GH2494

For adding to only (not editing) an activity team roster record, if the role is "Mentored leader" or "Co-leader," automatically check the "Admins" and "Show as contact" boxes.

  11. Import Events from Facebook (upgrade plone.app.events) SD628

As Mountaineers staff I need to import events from Facebook (that I exported to a .ics file) to an "events" folder on our website so that I do not have to double enter items.

  12. Promo Codes: Offer Discount for Books Added via a Registration Process SD425

As a person registering for a course, course activity, trip activity or an event, give me a discount on any of the books that I added to my shopping cart from the book page shown at the end of the registration process. When I'm viewing the recommended books page, during checkout it will show me the amount of discount I'll receive.

If I have a member promo code in the same cart, whichever promo code is greater will apply (the better deal). This book promo code will apply even if I register for the course at a different time.

  13. Promo Codes: Dollar Amount Discount for "Entire" Shopping Cart SD410

As a site visitor allow me to use a promo code that gives me a dollar amount discount on everything in my shopping cart up to the total amount of items in my shopping cart that qualifies.

This could be quite useful for volunteer recognition.

  14. Promo Code: Bulk Discount for Purchasing from a Series SD484

As a site visitor let me use a promo code to get a bulk discount when I purchase a bunch of items from the same series (e.g. books in the Day Hiking series or backpacking courses/clinics). So we define "series" as any group (or bundle) of items of any kind (books, courses, etc.) that have to be in the cart for the discount to be applied.

  15. Use different formatting for book title and subtitle in search GH2782

It is really messy looking at book titles that have subtitles because its all huge font. Also the stars look a little weird.

  16. practice sessions

In order to accommodate activities that are not trips and not instructional in nature, we would like to create a category called "practice sessions" that function exactly like clinics. Currently, these would be used to house pool practice sessions (currently listed as clinics) and open climb nights (currently listed as events and therefore we aren't requiring online waivers or QYL for youth to come). We (Sara, Becca, Tess) think that this could potentially require very little development and have a positive impact across the organization. I'm happy to chat more about it!

This would require project-level development. We already leaders and members struggling to understand how we categorize things and this would more likely add to that confusion.

  17. Make Activity Template's Activity Type a Multiselect GH2752

Right now we have a number of leadership clinics which we are having a hard time reporting on since they are categorized by activity type when really we want them tagged as both the activity like Sea Kayaking AND outdoor leadership

  18. Make it possible to add merchandise when renewing or buying a membership or gift membership GH2754

It'd be neat to be able to buy a mountaineers hat or pint glass when joining and/or buying a gift membership for someone.

You might also like section should show up on Join the Mountaineers page in addition to showing on the shopping cart.

Similar set up for gift memberships

  19. Add Requested Info field to Courses GH2756

Add an additional field on courses that prompts students to provide info when signing up for a course. For summer camps this can allow us to collect T-shirt size or could be used for questions about kayak rentals for kayak students etc.

  20. Need Secondary Emergency Contact when Spouse on a Trip GH2828

The Member Profile allows you to provide an emergency contact. This works well, but if it is a spouse or partner, and both of you go on the same trip (as happened on a recent backpack I led), that contact is not useful. Leaders end up needing to request a second contact. (My co-leader wanted this from me; the problem hadn't occurred to me.) For such situations, it would be helpful to have a second contact in the system.

My suggestion is to provide the option to enter a second emergency contact and phone number, and where it is provided…
