I was able to meet with the developers and can provide more context! I will not close this idea right away so that you have a chance to reply/comment back. The reason that this feature no longer works is because cookies on browsers changed and the plone-native (what our website runs on) feature for this no longer worked. There are other ways we could potentially re-introduce something like this but we did not pursue these due to the additional security concerns they would introduce. All members logged in have access to their personal PII and potentially saved credit card information (through 3P link service). Leaders have access to other member’s PII data for those who have joined their trips. Alternative solutions could cause issues if someone were to log in on public devices that would keep that user logged in and pose a risk. For this reason, as well as the development costs to build a new solution, we have chose not to pursue a replacement for the removed feature.

Thank you for reaching out! I am happy to provide the historical context that I found and a proposal for next steps. The “logged in” feature was a built-in feature of the platform our website is built on. When we upgraded our platform late 2023/early 2024 it was removed because the latest version of the platform no longer stored these credentials for security reasons. The ticket that was closed, mentioned a session being active for a period of time, but I believe that only works if the window/tab is not closed. That idea was closed by me in July as part of a clean-up process and I appreciate that the lack of description as to why it was closed was missing. I have worked to provide more details to members since then when closing/completing ideas.

As for next steps, I have a monthly meeting with our external developers who can provide more detail on this and either suggest options or further explain the decision not to pursue re-adding this feature. I can reply back with more information early July!
