Equivalency Candidate Badges
Give Committee members the ability to award short-duration badges to Equivalency candidates, to allow candidates to manage their own instructor registrations as part of the requirements for demonstrating equivalency
Our current system allows Committee Admins to create Equivalency Courses for tracking and graduating Equivalency Candidates. In the Equivalency Course Template, Committee Admins can designate an existing student badge or a course badge as an “Enrolled Badge,” which will be assigned to Equivalency candidates for the duration of their enrollment in the Equivalency Course. This allows them to sign up for trips or instructor opportunities that require that badge so that they can meet their requirements for Equivalency.

1. The enrolled badge is assigned to students when they register for a course. The expiration date for the badge is course's end date.
2. n/a
3. That's probably a good call.
4. Sure, you can follow a model for an equivalency course where students get an enrolled badge that is the prerequisite badge that allows them to register as an instructor for the Basic Navigation Course.

Just so I am clear, as I am still confused on what having a badge in the enrolled section actually does.
1. Does it issue the badge to the student in their profile once registered?
2. If not, what does it do?
3. Other courses assume that by having a Basic Nav badge they have completed the course, thus we would not want to issue this badge until they have actually completed the course.
4. Do we follow a model such as basic climbing where a "student badge" is issued when they register for the course and make signing up for appropriate activities have a student badge as one of the possible pre-req? -
Badges do not have any underlying states.
For Basic Navigation, so long as you have a standalone equivalency course, you can set the enrolled and graduate badges to be the Basic Navigation "graduate" badge. Those who are students in the equivalency course will get the Basic Navigation badge with an expiration date that is the course's end date and that you change change if needed, one-by-one or in bulk. Any who graduate will get the Basic Navigation badge with an expiration date that is calculated based on the badge's duration.

Question: Do badges come with underlying states? For example, if I have a Basic Navigation Badge, does it contain metadata with the state of Enrolled vs Graduated or something of that nature?
For this course we have not created a student or equiv candidate badge, so in order for this to work I think those badges would need to be created. Then update the the WNav course pre-reqs to allow those with a equiv candidate badge to enroll as an instructor and sign up for instructor activities? Does this sound correct to you or do you have other alternatives that could be available to us?

Thanks for the detailed explanation. No one was aware already of the "Enrolled Badge" functionality! I'll give that a try!
It's unfortunately more difficult than not to be a volunteer, and to actually know the resources available to volunteers.
