This forum is for you to share ideas and exchange feedback with Mountaineers members, guests, volunteers, and leadership. You may vote for or comment on any forum idea and will be notified of status changes to that idea. Your feedback helps us prioritize projects and improvements for our organization. We receive lots of great ideas, so please search the forum first before adding a new one. If your idea is not yet in our forum, please post it with a simple title and an explanation of your idea and how it benefits The Mountaineers. If you want to learn more about what has already been developed and what is up next, please visit our Technology Blog. Thank you for your participation!

Please note that all our courses, events, trips and course-related activities have feedback forms so that you give feedback for every activity in which you participate. You’ll get an email reminder to do so just after the activity. If your feedback is of urgent nature it may be best to contact the chair of the committee that sponsors that program directly. Not sure who the chair is? Contact our Member Services Team at info@mountaineers.org.

If there was a safety incident or near miss, you will have the opportunity for submitting an Incident Report after submitting activity feedback. You may also use the Incident Report button on the activity detail page (from your My Activities page) or contact our Safety Committee directly at safety@mountaineers.org.

  1. Upgrade to Plone 5

    Our website is built on Plone 4.3 which runs on Python 2. Support for Python 2 ends in 2020. Plans to have Plone 5.2 on Python 3 are in the works. To be sure we are able to maintain support and install needed security patches, we should begin the process of upgrading to Plone 5 in late FY2019 and complete the transition in early FY2020. We will get many small side benefits from the upgrane to Plone 5 like being able to have links in help text and importing events.

  2. Migrate Files to "The Cloud" ~IT

    We have internal systems we can move to a cloud platform: office apps & files (apps, documents, spreadsheets, presentations), and graphic design apps & files (e.g. Adobe Creative Suite). Note that we already have photo storage in SmugMug and on website and video storage in Vimeo and YouTube.

  3. Don't Show "Waitlist Warning" Message for an Activity in the Past GH2823

    To improve the activity closing process (activity end date is in the past), don't show the message, "registration has closed- please check your waitlist," when editing a roster record.

  4. Create more robust Offered expiration date/time

    We'd like to be able to send multiple reminders of offered status and can't report or make emails that do that without a hard date/time added to the course participant and activity participant record in Salesforce

  6. On Routes & Places Utilize Gallery View Images GH2825

    Like we have for our book and merchandise detail pages, use a main image display ans thumbnails below for the route/place images(s) displayed at the upper right of each route/place.

  7. Add Map Area/Radius Filter to Route/Place and Activity Searches

    Right now the map view of search results doesn't show if you don't have any filters chosen, because the map view has a limit on the number of records (balloons) that may be displayed. Add the ability to filter by an defined area--two corners of a rectangle or a radius around a point.

  8. Deceased member information ~SFOnly

    What needs to happen to membership accounts when a member passing- including but not limited to unsubscribe from emails, change contact for communication on membership etc.

    Website:
    ○ If part of a family membership, adjust as needed for the survivor(s)
    ○ Set membership expiration to the date when marked as deceased
    ○ Unsubscribe from all email newsletters
    ○ Unsubscribe from magazine mailing if not part of a family membership
    ○ Remove from all committees

    Salesforce:
    ○ Set Email Opt Out to True

  9. Show Guests in Event RSVP Portlet : GH2474

    Right now you can't see your guests in the event register portlet which means its hard to know how to cancel/add until you open.

  10. Add family member lookup for lodge stays SD635

    As a logged in member i'd like to see my family members showing up when registering so i don't have to retype name/ages and this allows for better tracking in database of who is actually using the lodge.

  11. Need additional and/or functionality for badges for Youth Activities

    For a lot of our youth programs you always need to have a QYL badge and either a course badge or a QYL badge and a collection of skill badges. Right now the website isn't set up to make sure the QYL is connected to the course badge "OR" functionality and the skill badge "AND" functionality.

  12. Gallery View: Slide Show and Grid View SD631

    Add slide show and grid view to galleryview for folders (not Book and Merchnadise details pages):

    Slide Show: Add a slide show selector to galleryview with full screen, timer and left/right arrow controls.If there are videos (or any non-image content) in the folder, skip them.

    Grid View: Add a grid selector and display a grid of thumbnails in galeryview. Open the image in a popup overlaying the grid/page when clicked. Close the popup via an "X" in the upper right of the image popup (and maybe left/right arrows on the popup?).

  13. My Gallery

    Add a My Gallery section to My Profile that where I can upload photos and where photos I've uploaded to the the website in other area like Trip Reports are displayed.

    Ideally all photos I've added would be displayed by default, but I would be able to choose to hide certain ones from My Gallery even though they would still be displayed elsewhere on the website.

  14. Add ability to adjust map zoom level on location tab GH2513

    Map zoom level is not saved during the editing process for an activity/course/etc. The displayed map defaults to a specific zoom level that centered on the location pin.

    It would be helpful to be able to set the level of zoom without making the user use the +/- button.

  15. Improve Roster Functionality: Badge Rosters SD584

    Make sure there is pagination and the ability to search on large badge rosters. We'd also like the ability to download rosters. Need to be able to bulk update expiration date. Also need to fix the roster download function.

  16. Improve Roster Functionality: Course Template Rosters

    Add pagination and search/filter features to allow for better handling of these large rosters so they can be a more useful instructor recruitment tool. Being able to filter by curren tmembers, roles, graduation dates before download.

  17. Fix the mobile My Courses View GH2094

    Right now when you open My Courses & Programs and then open courses that have activities in the future and past it looks a little messy, it'd be better to have them open in a separate modal dialogue

  18. Review Participation Notes

    On the "My Activities" page there's a "Review Participation Notes" blue button. It seems like these Participation Notes should have their own section on the left sidebar, similar to "My Feedback". Or it could be combined with the "My Feedback" page and use the same date filtering etc.

    When making changes to the website, we have to consider the wide implications of reorganizing information. Participation notes are only available to leaders and group administrators – participants cannot see participation notes created by leaders. The participation notes are designed as an investigative tool for leaders for an incident, accident, or behavioral issue. It’s included on the My Activities page so leaders can easily see successful trip history as a way to screen participants pre trip. Leaders should only look at the participation notes when a red flag was noted in the past or a person’s trip status includes ‘needs improvement. Due to the special use case of this information and the small pool of people able to access this information, we feel the participant notes to not warrant a special tab, and we are going to keep the current structure at this time.

  19. Make it so you can't close a trip without trip results GH2508

    Right now if you are in the team roster you can't close the trip without giving a status like Sucessful/Cancelled etc. however you can do it via the yellow admin bar. We don't want trips closed without knowing how they went so it'd be great to get an error notification when you try and do this that says "Trip result must be entered on the roster before activity can be closed."
