This forum is for you to share ideas and exchange feedback with Mountaineers members, guests, volunteers, and leadership. You may vote for or comment on any forum idea and will be notified of status changes to that idea. Your feedback helps us prioritize projects and improvements for our organization. We receive lots of great ideas, so please search the forum first before adding a new one. If your idea is not yet in our forum, please post it with a simple title and an explanation of your idea and how it benefits The Mountaineers. If you want to learn more about what has already been developed and what is up next, please visit our Technology Blog. Thank you for your participation!

Please note that all our courses, events, trips, course-related activities, clinics, seminars, and lodge stays have feedback forms so that you give feedback for everything in which you participate. You’ll get an email reminder to do so just after the activity. If your feedback is of urgent nature it may be best to contact the chair of the committee that sponsors that program directly. Not sure who the chair is? Visit our Committee Chair Directory or contact our Member Services Team at info@mountaineers.org.

If there was a safety incident or near miss, you will have the opportunity for submitting an Incident Report after submitting activity feedback. You may also use the Incident Report button on the activity detail page (from your My Activities page) or contact our Safety Committee directly at safety@mountaineers.org.

  1. Make Mountaineers e-newsletters come from different email than activity emails

    It's helpful for me to be able to sort through activity related emails separately than e-newsletters. Maybe make these come through as activities@mountaineers.org versus info@mountaineers.org

    We discussed and determined that our current infrastructure is best with just one address for our email newsletters, confirmations and notifications.

  2. Bookmarking a place in the activities list SD387

    When I’m scrolling through the Activities and something catches my eye, I’ll open it to check out the details. After reading it and deciding to continue, I click the browser back button or the back to activities arrow. Either way it takes me back to the TOP of the activities page even if I had been at the bottom. I have to scroll back down to where I was – if I remember where that was – to continue where I left off. There should be a way to return to where you left off without all the backtracking. Is…

  3. Make it possible to search activities by asst leader and co-leaders GH1527

    Make it possible to search activities by co-leader or assistant leader, right now you can only search by primary leader.

    You may now search activities and courses by leaders name for leaders who are co-leaders, assistant leaders or mentored leaders.

    Please put class times in with the dates on the registration page of each class.

  5. When regional chairs offer to help a member with something, follow through!

    I have a road trip to Zion coming up and would have liked to post as global activity. I have been a member for only one year so was unable to post. Tacoma Branch Chair offered to help any way he could and though I reached out twice, I received no follow through. Suggest:
    1. Changing rules for activity posts so those who have experience and good activities can communicate to others who may be interested in participating.
    2. If you are a in a lead position (regional chair) and offer your assistance, follow through to your membership community. It…

  6. Leaders of a committee should be able to access old course rosters

    It appears that courses expire which means they don't show up under the course template unless you are course admin.

    Committee admins can see all courses. If a person needs to work with historical courses, they should be a committee admin.

    You can now add up to three attachments to email sent from the website. Please be sure to keep the total size of all attachments to 10MB or less.

  9. Enhance promo code limits GH1111

    As discussed, can you please talk to David about adding a “max use” requirement for our Promo Code. Right now you can add a maximum use per person, but not per code. Meaning you can only use a code once, but then you could give me the code and I could use it (also only once).

    Ideally we’d like to create a requirement for promo codes so they can only be used once (in the case of gift membership) which means we don’t’ ever need to go back in and add an expiration date, as it will expire once it…

  10. Fix message in blue roster tab

    When you aren't listed as a participant for a leader or a trip it currently says Log in to see roster even if you are logged in. We need the text to say "Only participants of the trip can view other members on the roster. "

  11. Add course template name to activity searches for field trips GH1142

    Add the course template name (essentially the course name with the year) to the activity search results so people can find the right field trip that they want to instruct at.

  12. Improve Drill Down Navigation in Left Side Bar

    I waste a lot of time navigating up and down the hierarchy page-by-page. Certainly, the breadcrumbs and the navigation tree in the left side bar are a great help for more effecient navigation.

    Unfortunately, the left sidebar is somewhat limited because at certain levels the expand/collapse arrows no longer work. For example,when you encounter "committees", you cannot drill down further. Instead, you must move your attention to the body of the page and choose a committee from there. Then the hierarchy in the side bar miraculously expands and you can continue drilling down from there. (Until you reach another committees…

    As you noted, one can now drill down at the committee level. We cannot do this for the branch “home page” because branches requested a home page style that did NOT include the left navigation panel. You do get the lefty navigation back once you’ve gone to the Branch News, Courses & Activities or About Us page.

  13. Volunteer Recognition Badges

    We have Super Volunteer and Key Leader Badges. What other ideas do you have for volunteer recognition badges? This input, combined with our current and future website abilities will help us make the best decisions as we develop ways to recognize the hard work that our volunteers do.

    We shoudl do this as a survey to our volunteers. It’s too hard to get responses for this kind of a question here.

  14. Put Instructor Opportunities in with Find Activities SD360

    For those of us not required to volunteer for a class, we were more apt to sign up as instructors or for classes when the listings were mixed with activities. We search by date, not necessarily opportunity type.

  16. Preview Activity before saving

    There should be a way to preview an activity before submitting it. Currently one saves and then edits (submitted by Henry Romer during Focus Groups).

    Leaders can change their trip to Private state which is a “review” state. When an activity is private it will still show up in a leader’s My Activities area but not in the search area for the general public.

    We chose to make activities automatically published because that is what most leaders requested, especially because you can specify open and close registration dates. And you can always go in and edit your activity.

    Create a member dashboard that allows us to more easily track membership by type, branch, member interests etc.

    One of the quickest ways to match organization needs with membership talent is to identify what skills are needed and what skills potential volunteers are willing to offer. When such postings are put on the website on the "Get Involved as a Volunteer" webpage (https://www.mountaineers.org/volunteers/get-involved-as-a-volunteer), we have YET not to have someone come forward and offer to help out. If your profile page allowed you to report your interests and skills, The Mountaineers could more specifically target recruitment efforts to people who are most likely to like the work being offered.   19. Bring Trip Feedback Survey onto Mountaineers.org and include course surveys SD31/38

    President Dan Lauren created a trip survey mechanism that operates through a different platform than Mountaineers.org but which provides invaluable information for Leaders about how their trips were viewed. It would be great to make this information easier for Leaders to see on Mountaineers.org rather than another platform with a different log-in. This could then be expanded to courses and allowing committees to analyze feedback from students efficiently through the website as well.
