This forum is for you to share ideas and exchange feedback with Mountaineers members, guests, volunteers, and leadership. You may vote for or comment on any forum idea and will be notified of status changes to that idea. Your feedback helps us prioritize projects and improvements for our organization. We receive lots of great ideas, so please search the forum first before adding a new one. If your idea is not yet in our forum, please post it with a simple title and an explanation of your idea and how it benefits The Mountaineers. Please note that all our courses, events, trips, course-related activities, clinics, seminars, and lodge stays have feedback forms so that you give feedback for everything in which you participate. You’ll get an email reminder to do so just after the activity. If your feedback is of urgent nature it may be best to contact the chair of the committee that sponsors that program directly.   2. Create a Single-Pitch Sport Climb Leader badge ~WebsiteContent

    A pathway to leadership for students who participate in the Leading Bolted Routes or Sport Climbing courses would serve to create a pipeline of knowledgable, interested instructors for future courses, and help to ensure that Mountaineers' high standards are maintained during instruction in future classes and on official sport climbing trips.

    This badge would be distinct from any of the other existing climb leader badges, but would require a similar pathway-- leadership, WFA/MOFA, resume, etc.

    Thanks for your suggestion. Last fall, we completed the modularization and reorganization of our climbing leadership structure. This new structure achieves a number of important outcomes: (1) Offers transparency to the students and equalizes the experience for all aspiring leaders. (2) Provides a clear leadership pathway where aspiring leaders can see a road map to how they can become a leader in whatever climbing pursuit they are interested in leading. (3) Provides early leadership opportunities, giving our members a chance to feel valued and develop their leadership skills early on, while they are also developing their technical skills. We believe this will lead to more leaders, and early identification of individuals who may have been overlooked for leadership opportunities in the past, thereby reducing the burden on our top leaders to run crag outings.   3. Fix Required Input Needed error on roster GHtbd

    When you are trying to add someone to the roster it often spits back a "Required Input Needed" error even when you have entered someone's name or email correctly. Fortunately you can just hit Save and override error message but its confusing for new leaders.

  4. Add a trip plan upload and PLB checkbox GH2824

    Add the ability to upload a "trip plan" to an activity. In addition, we would like a checkbox that indicates if the trip party is planning to carry a PLB. The ability to upload a trip plan is priority #1, and the PLB checkbox is priority #2 (if it is not a lot of additional work).

  5. Need a way to mark courses/events/activities as led by staff vs. volunteers GH2707

    Right now its getting difficult to report volunteer contributions for recognition and annual reporting versus staff contributions.

    A long time coming, but this is finally complete. The Activity, Course, and Event edit forms now all have a “Led by Staff” checkbox that is synced to Salesforce. Sara and decided that we do not need the history, and getting it accurately seemed nearly impossible, given that most of us have led as both staff and a volunteer.

  6. An optional listing of activities by sign-up closing date would be useful.

    Greetings, I am looking at the webpage listing of backpacking trips
    https://www.mountaineers.org/explore/activities#c4=Backpacking&_authenticator=85ed85bf9f9b5b690f54ae2e41091ad49b0b5563
    and there are trips that commence several weeks from now that have sign-ups closing this week. I suspect that these trips will be undersubscribed because people don't scroll down far enough. If the trips could optionally be listed by sign-up closure, that would help these trips to get more attention. Thank you!

    Use cases:
    * I am a participant and I want to only view courses and activities that have availability.
    * I am a leader and I want to only view courses and activities that have leader availability.

  8. Warning message to leader if other trips scheduled in that area SD476

    For routes that can have multiple trips listed... Can I suggest a website change for those locations that allow multiple registrations, to possibly have some sort of a pop-up come up informing the leader something to the effect of

    "Yeah you are the only one currently registered for this location on your activity date" or

    "hmm -- you are now the Xth user registering for this location on on your activity date; please use your judgement about whether this would work"

  9. Display activity start time next to date

    Display an activity start time prominently along with the date, and as a mandatory field. It wastes time to go through several screens only to see that no time is listed, or the start time won't work for your personal schedule.

    The current meeting time and place field is rich text to allow leaders to explain start times. For example, sometimes a leader puts in both start time at trailhead and where and when they are meeting at a park and ride.

    Our leaders requested this flexibility so it would be a pretty big change to switch this to being a single field or adding another field that leaders need to complete is not practical.
  10. Option for "Closed" vs "Open" Activities

    There needs to be a better way to handle closed activity sign-ups such as SIG-only outings. When hunting for activities, it is frustrating how many of the outings are actually closed events for a set group of people and not open to the public. Surely there's a way to remove these closed events from the publicly searchable activities board.

  12. In Stewardship Half Day template document the need for manual follow-up

    After completing two "Stewardship Half Day" activities the participant is expected to send an email to info@mountaineers.org requesting their Stewardship badge. This fact was documented in a one-time email sent to activity chairs and some activity leaders when the new template was launched in November, 2020 (see attached pdf) but does not appear to be documented anywhere else. Moreover, people who post Stewardship Half Day activities are expected to include the need for manual follow-up in their activity descriptions, but that also appears to have been mentioned only in the one-time November email.   13. Rename "Exploring Nature" as "Nature hikes"

    I'm a new member, having been unable to hike for years because of joint replacement surgeries. I am starting out with nature hikes because they are often less strenuous. It took awhile to find the right page, because the hikes were labeled "Exploring Nature." It would be easier to find this page if it were called "Nature hikes."

    Thanks for your suggestions Susan. We selected the “Exploring Nature” title for anything that falls into this category, which does include hikes but also includes other things like photography outings, Mini Mountaineers trips, and forest bathing. Some of our hikes are categorized as Exploring Nature but all of our Exploring Nature activities are hikes. For that reason we need to decline this idea.

  14. Stop showing activities that occur TODAY in the "My Activities History" section

    Right now, any event I am leading today shows up as the first thing in the "My Activities History" section on my profile. However, this is (and always has been) very annoying, because I have to scroll down to find it. Due to recent (and welcome) website optimizations, the history section loads more slowly, so I have to wait for it to load before I can open the activity I'm leading that day in order to print the roster.

  15. Improve Route/Place Summary (aka Search Results) View GH3574

    Given that our Routes & Places have grown to support a wider set of options and variations, and that they support both land and marine activities, it would be better to display the entire summary and remove the detailed info at right column in the summary (aka search results) view of a route/place. See the attached mock-up.

  16. Assign the Stewardship Credit Badge Based on Stewardship Activity Volunteer Hours

    Once participants can more easily be assigned volunteer hours for participating in a stewardship activity (see Allow Participants to be Bulk Assigned Volunteer Hours, http://feedback.mountaineers.org/forums/273688-general-feedback/suggestions/41829865-allow-participants-to-be-bulk-assigned-volunteer-h), assign (or remove) the Stewardship Credit badge based on having 8 or more stewardship volunteer hours in the last 365 days (removing this badge if a person has it and their stewardship volunteer hours are less than 8 in the last 365 days).

  17. Display "Leader's Permission Required" and Registration Opening Date on Field Trip Pages

  18. Add a link to native-land.ca in each routes & places description

    I'd love to have a sentence or two in each routes & places description that says something like "This place is the traditional land of Native peoples. Find out more about the Native tribes that have stewarded this land since time immemorial at native-land.ca."

  19. Add Kilometres to the "Length Units" on the posting activity page.

    We should have this option- we can post the km on the Pace. It makes absolutely no sense that we can't post the distance of the pace they are moving at with the same measurement
    Maybe we should get onto the '70s and make this an option?

    Thanks for sharing your idea. Unfortunately, we need to decline this. As the overwhelming majority of our courses take place in the United States, where the standard unit of measurement is the imperial system, we’ve designed the website to work within this system. We do not have capacity to expand to kilometres at this time.

  20. Add our COVID Code of Conduct to website GH 3445/3446/3447/3450/3455

    Add text acknowledging our COVID Code of Conduct, including a link to the reference page(s), to the event/activity creation page and the registration pop-up. Also add a note about the Code of Conduct to the top of all event and activity listings.

    Add donation requests to free activities and events.

    Better emphasize donation request in checkout process.

    Add "Include credit card fees" for donations.
