Increase search functionality for routes-places
If it is necessary for us to avoid posting multiple routes-places and activities to the same trail, it would be very helpful to have the ability for users to enter a flexible set of 'tags' with the range of place names along the planned route that can be searched for to find other routes-places or activities going to the same place but named something different.
Lots of great updates have been made to routes/places which allow greater flexibility have been made.

We are also working with leaders to make sure that everyone understands that search uses the titles and summary statements so making sure that any alternative names for a route/place are in the summary.
And of course if you see a route/place that needs to have a name changed or added just email info@mountaineers.org

This functionality is sufficient for me now.

It's pretty easy to do as you (Cheryl) suggested now by adding keywords" to the Summary field. When anyone searches for words in a site search or a faceted search like Find Routes & Places, the ones with the most word matches appear to the top of the search results. We do try to do this, but I'm sure we can improve.

I would vote for this, but I am out of votes. Route/Places needs lots of help to work as intended. For starters, whoever decided a Route and a Place were the same thing. Routes may cross many places and Places my be served by many routes. In combining, they act necessarily more like routes which is why we see fields like elevation gain and distance, which don't make much sense for a Place. On the other hand, not all activities have Routes and trying to squeeze them into that paradigm gets confusing.
In any case, the route search is fairly difficult to use, especially if you are looking for a route/place and don't know what it's called, or for that matter, whether it even exists.
