This forum is for you to share ideas and exchange feedback with Mountaineers members, guests, volunteers, and leadership. You may vote for or comment on any forum idea and will be notified of status changes to that idea. Your feedback helps us prioritize projects and improvements for our organization. We receive lots of great ideas, so please search the forum first before adding a new one. If your idea is not yet in our forum, please post it with a simple title and an explanation of your idea and how it benefits The Mountaineers. Please note that all our courses, events, trips, course-related activities, clinics, seminars, and lodge stays have feedback forms so that you give feedback for everything in which you participate. You’ll get an email reminder to do so just after the activity. If your feedback is of urgent nature it may be best to contact the chair of the committee that sponsors that program directly. If there was a safety incident or near miss, you will have the opportunity for submitting an Incident Report after submitting activity feedback. You may also use the Incident Report button on the activity detail page (from your My Activities page) or contact our Safety Committee directly at safety@mountaineers.org.

  1. Add Review button for Editing

    This is the only web-edit tool I can think of that doesn't have a REVIEW
    option. Unless I'm missing something, I can only SAVE or CANCEL from EDIT
    mode. The requires many edits - and the system has been sluggish this afternoon.
    Please add "REVIEW" to the wish list. :-)

    Greg,
    The web system we chose for mountaineers.org is a modern content management system which uses the different statuses of private, pending review and published. The private setting is similar to a review button where you can review what you just made but it isn’t available as published material to the public.

    Sites can be sluggish or fast for a wide variety of reasons but please let us know if there is a specific action you are regularly doing on the website that is consistently taking a long time.

  2. Make Events easier to find

    Events should be listed next to LEARN EXPLORE AND CONSERVE on the main homepage.

    Events can be found in the header on every single page of the website. The upcoming events are featured in a calendar box in the middle left of the homepage as well. We are working on improved functionality for events, including the ability to RSVP and see the events your are registered for, however we do not plan to add an additional menu item to the main navigation for events.

  3. Increase search functionality for routes-places

    If it is necessary for us to avoid posting multiple routes-places and activities to the same trail, it would be very helpful to have the ability for users to enter a flexible set of 'tags' with the range of place names along the planned route that can be searched for to find other routes-places or activities going to the same place but named something different.

    Lots of great updates have been made to routes/places which allow greater flexibility have been made.

    We are also working with leaders to make sure that everyone understands that search uses the titles and summary statements so making sure that any alternative names for a route/place are in the summary.

    And of course if you see a route/place that needs to have a name changed or added just email info@mountaineers.org

    In November we started using Exact Target to manage our newsletters and other organizational wide emails.

  8. Apply member discount to course fee if membership is in shopping cart

    It's giving me the non-member price for the course even though I have a membership in my shopping cart.

  9. Improve the ability to act as family member for activity registration

    It doesn't seem to be working to masquerade as a family member from the My Profile drop down menu.

  10. Improve Incident Reporting GH824

    Incident reporting appears as just an embedded email link in the trip report
    when a leader closes an activity. Its output are the emails that appear
    from those trip leaders sending the email. That makes it harder for the
    Safety Officer to identify and group them in mail. Basic metadata like
    which branch this pertains to is not appended in the body. That makes it
    hard to determine who is accountable for follow up. It would be really nice
    if we could re-institute a form that writes to the DB and generates an email
    FROM a single incident reporting address…

  11. Web forms and surveys integrated into the website GH1674

    It would be great to have web forms available to leaders so we can create course applications, branch surveys, run branch elections, etc directly on the website using the member's login

    We’ve recently made a bit of progress using these for feedback surveys, safety incident reports, and equivalency and leader applications.

    It will take quite a bit more work to make these available for use by a broader audience. If you are interested in using these forms, please send an email to info@mountaineers..org.

  12. Improve more+ button

    From feedback, it appears that many people fail to notice the "more+" button in activities, especially on cellphones. Because they don't see it, they don't read all the important info in leader's notes. The More+ button should be more prominent...possibly a brighter, solid color button? Better yet, how about all the info about the trip expanded so it's never missed?

  13. Improve address form fields so they are more consistent GH3146

    There is an inconsistenty among address field types on our forms--Join, Shipping, and Checkout. The shipping page is the best model, so the field types would be:

    Street Address - plain text
    
    City - plain text
    State - select if Country = "United States" OR "Canada" and plain text for all others
    ZIP - plain text
    Country - single select

  14. Email Reminder for Activities, Courses and Events About to Open for Registration SD509

    As a site user, allow me to choose to get an email the day before an activity, course or event opens so that I get a reminder to register for an activity or course for which I plan to register.

    It would be ideal to add a checkbox along with "Send me an email reminder the day before this opens for registration." to the registration portlet where the the opening date is displayed. We're currently thinking a new role on the roster may be the best way to accomplish this.

  15. Improve My Profile Preferences View GH3064

    Improve how a member’s preferences are displayed on the bottom of their My Profile page and to minimize confusion on where and how to change (edit) them.

    Notes:
    - Don't show checkboxes or data entry boxes with their “values,” because it makes them look editable.
    - Remove help text, so that essentially only the field labels and their values are displayed and so that the view is more compact.

  16. Alerts & Notifications "Leave Blank for All Branches" GH3015

    For the "Branches" field change it so that leaving it blank is the same as having selected all of the branches in the list.

    Change the help text for Branches to: With these branches... (leave blank to choose all branches)

    Change the help text for Activities to: Of these types... (choose at least one to get notifications)

  17. Course Activity Data Export Improvement GH3028

    Investigate alternatives for the Course Activities Export. It takes several minutes to get the datatables view, because there are often several thousand records associated with the request. There may be more, but few options are:


    • Check how much overhead there is in Diazo processing of the markup? Avoiding that may be one reason that converting the main course roster view to be React-based helped so much. If that's correct you could possibly load this part of the page in an iframe that bypasses Diazo.


    • A bit off the wall... After clicking the "download" button, display a message (in a popup?)…

  18. Add to Check to Feedback Forms for Incident Report Info GH2731/2732

    When checking whether to send an email to the Safety Committee (for all feedback forms) and whether to direct the user to the Incident Report Form (for activity-related feedback forms only) after submitting a Feedback Survey Form, in addition to checking if the answer to "Were there any safety incidents or near-misses on this trip? " is "yes," also check to see if the "Describe the incident or near-miss." response in NOT empty, If either is true send the Safety Committee and email and redirect the user to the Incident Report.

  19. Change Shopping Cart Timer Message Text GH2932

    Change the shopping cart timer message text to:

    You have {time_remaining} minutes to complete your registration and payment or your registration will be canceled to give others a chance to register.”

    Where time_remaining is 30, 29, 28, etc. minutes (it starts at 30 minutes, a website setting that can be increased or decreased if needed).

    It seems like it might be better to show how many minutes remain to give a better sense of urgency.
