  1. An optional listing of activities by sign-up closing date would be useful.

Greetings, I am looking at the webpage listing of backpacking trips
    https://www.mountaineers.org/explore/activities#c4=Backpacking&_authenticator=85ed85bf9f9b5b690f54ae2e41091ad49b0b5563
and there are trips that commence several weeks from now that have sign-ups closing this week. I suspect that these trips will be undersubscribed because people don't scroll down far enough. If the trips could optionally be listed by sign-up closure, that would help these trips to get more attention. Thank you!

  2. When a leader sets a trip to 'private' status, turn off visibility to leaders

Sometimes a committee administrator has time to create multiple listings in advance on behalf of leaders but doesn't want them to be visible to anyone until the trip opens for registration, so they set them to 'private' for a few days or weeks. Particularly the case for Global Adventures but also for some course field trips. However right now all listings are visible to any leader even when marked private. The whole point of marking something private is so that no one gets the advantage of advance visibility for that activity. Can we make any 'private' status activity be invisible…

We allow leaders to see private activities because they need to see all activities at a given route/place to prevent multiple groups going to the same place. This obviously applies mostly to global adventures and we understand the need to have limited visibility but it’s hard to justify the resources needed for development for a specific activity committee at this time.

  3. Show "Late Cancellation" as a Participant Result

Show "Late Cancellation" as a status on the Participant Result, if participant cancels after registration is closed. This would be an additional option to Cancelled and No Show, which already exist. No changes to existing, automated emails.

We have a number of mechanisms in place to help people understand the impact of cancellations and no- shows. This includes our automated emails and participation notes for people on trips.

We are concerned that this status will lead to leaders blacklisting participants from trips and think that instead the focus needs to be on better new member orientation about our activities.

  4. Summit register at Mount Olympus Middle Peak

Need to make the Mountaineers summit register at Mount Olympus Middle Peak watertight and bring a register to put in it next time someone goes up there. I looked in it a few days ago. A few soaked scraps of paper is all that is in there. It is the first Mountaineers summit register container I have seen on any peak. Maybe this has some historical value? Will email a photo of it.

    Hi Jerry,

We’ve added a note on the Mt. Olympus route/place listing that the middle summit is missing a register and that registers are available at the Seattle Program Center.

We are also able to mail paper registers to people who aren’t able to stop by the program center and have their own summit tupperware or other watertight container. Email info@mountaineers.org if you have a summit attempt booked and want a register.

  5. Add Global Adventures Waiver to GA registration process

Make it so global adventure participants are prompted to fill out the global adventures waiver form when registering for the activity

  6. Add ability to adjust map zoom level on location tab GH2513

Map zoom level is not saved during the editing process for an activity/course/etc. The displayed map defaults to a specific zoom level that centered on the location pin.

It would be helpful to be able to set the level of zoom without making the user use the +/- button.

  7. Have leader's permission emails indicate whether assistant leader or participant

As a trip leader it'd would be nice if the permission request emails specify in the subject whether the request is for a participant or an assistant leader. This way the leader could handle emails differently, i.e. use different email rules, or simply, trying to make sure they have enough leaders earlier than accepting participants. Maybe a drop-down for the type of request or separate links would be a solution - i.e., "click here to request permission as participant" and "click here to request permission as leader"

It was easy enough to add a question to the request, there does not seem to be any downside, and there are a few activity types where assistant leaders register themselves, so this is done.

  8. Make it so the alpine scramble template can't be chosen during the winter months

During the winter months, roughly October 15 - April 15, we require that trips must be listed as "Winter Scramble" rather than "Alpine Scramble", this is because different badges are required for scrambling during the winter months. Unfortunately, from time-to-time a leader accidentally lists the trip as Alpine Scramble, allowing people to register who should not be qualified.

Is there any way to prevent the listing of "Alpine Scramble" trips during winter months, so only the "Winter Scramble" is allowed?

We re-ordered the activity templates in the activity scheduling process drop down, so “Alpine Scrambling” and “Winter Scramble” are next to each other, so leaders can easily choose the correct template.

Winter scrambles are conditions and weather dependent so a fixed set of dates is not as flexible as this.

  9. Make it so you can't close a trip without trip results GH2508

Right now if you are in the team roster you can't close the trip without giving a status like Sucessful/Cancelled etc. however you can do it via the yellow admin bar. We don't want trips closed without knowing how they went so it'd be great to get an error notification when you try and do this that says "Trip result must be entered on the roster before activity can be closed."

  10. Allow Leaders to Choose Activity Template or Route/Place Image for Activities SD641

When scheduling an activity, allow the leader to choose to use one of the the route/place images, the activity template image, or an image from their local computer.

    Notes:

    • Currently when scheduling a trip (standalone) activity, the one form the route/place is the default and the leader may choose to replace that with one from their computer. For course activities, the default image is from the activity template, and the leader may choose to replace that with one from their computer.

    • Many of our Routes & Places have an "Images" folder where we store images submitted by our members and…

  12. Add Email Notification for Comments SD642

Make it so comments on trip reports, blog posts, etc. send an email to the person who posted the trip report so they can respond and have a dialogue about conditions. We'll also need a way to opt out of this email.

Note: If the commenter shared their profile their name is a link that will provide their email address.

  13. Make it possible to use the cursor keys within all text fields when creating or editing an activity.

When setting up and/or editing an activity, it is possible to move the cursor about inside the "Summary" filed but not in the "Meeting Place and Time" and "Required Equipment" fields. As a result, it is very frustrating to enter or correct information in the online activity form.

In other words, when pressing the ⬅️➡️⬆️or ⬇️ keys on my keyboard, the cursor will move accordingly inside the text field "Summary" as one would expect with a normal word processing function.

But in the "Meeting Place and Time" and "Required Equipment" fields, pressing these same ⬅️➡️⬆️or ⬇️ keyboard cursor control keys…

Last fall, we upgrade our rich text field editing interface. Hopefully, that and perhaps some Apple iOS updates have fixed this issue. If not, please send an email to info@mountaineers.org and we’ll take another look.

  14. Merge and Retire Routes & Places SD510 & GH2615

Despite our efforts to merge duplicates before the new website migration and with our new added flexibility for “combo routes,” we need the ability to merge and retire Routes & Places. And be able to do it in a way that does not adversely affect the activities and trip reports to which they are connected and so that our Routes & Places better serve their two primary functions--preventing us from sending two groups to the same place at the same time and being an online guidebook for our members and guests

We added retiring Routes & Places, a much smaller improvement development-wise, and no longer need to merge Routes & Places. We need only add some notes to a retired route/place about which one use in its place or if it was retired because we may no longer go there (e.g. trail/road washed out with no plans to repair or rebuild).

  15. Family Activities Exception GH2280

In family activities only, recognize when an adult attached to a youth membership has registered and override the Youth Information Form requirement for youth attached to the registered adult’s membership when they register. They would still need to be required to fill out the Family activities program form because otherwise we’d have no waiver on file for the youth.

    Considerations:

What do we do if the parent or parents cancel? This is a family activity which should be parent-child combos, so this does not seem like but…?
From Becca - Is there an option to have the system cancel a…

This is complete. To make it work, for an activity that is for families, remember to check the “Family activity?” box and choose “Families” in the Activity Audience field.

  16. Disconnect the <Enter> key from Submit on the Routes & Placed Edit Form

Disconnect the <Enter> key from the "Submit" button on the Routes & Places edit form. It is a big form with lots of things to be filled in and lots of causes for pressing <Enter> before one is ready. On the other hand, one is still able to edit afterwards so accidental submission was not a big problem.

  17. add scramble category

At the scramble summit, there was unanimous desire to be able to tag a scramble as rock or snow. I gave two suggestions and they didn’t seem to have a strong opinion one way or another.

First: since Winter Scramble is under difficulty, just add Rock Scramble and Snow Scramble. They liked the simplicity of this and that if something is rock/snow you can just tag something as both. They did feel like its not truly a “difficulty” rating, so logically it doesn’t make a lot of sense under difficulty.

Second: Add a “scrambling category”. The benefit here is that…

This is easy to do using “Rock Scramble” and “Snow Scramble” in the Difficulty field like we do "Basic Rock Climb and “Basic Glacier Climb.”

We just need volunteers to add these to our scramble Routes & Places. Please send an email to info@mountaineers.org if you are interested in helping. Thanks!

  18. Avy terrain rating GH2743

Add an avy terrain category rating to each route/place based on the highest risk area. Eg our Nordic Touring books list avalanche danger as "none, low, moderate, etc" The idea is that any route/place that has an NWAC link also has an avy rating so students can make informed decisions. (came from both snowshoe and scramble summits)

  19. Clarify the description of the "Assign Badges" function on the Roster page

For Activities that award a badge, the Roster page contains a check box named "Assign Badges" whose description says "Check this box if this person should be granted the activity badges when the activity ends". The description is misleading because the badge is not granted until the activity is closed. In the lifecycle of an event, "Ended" and "Closed" are two different things: an activity is considered "ended" once its End Date is in the past.

It looks like this may just be a simple typo in the checkbox description. If so, updating the text from "ended" to "closed"…
