This forum is for you to share ideas and exchange feedback with Mountaineers members, guests, volunteers, and leadership. You may vote for or comment on any forum idea and will be notified of status changes to that idea. Your feedback helps us prioritize projects and improvements for our organization. We receive lots of great ideas, so please search the forum first before adding a new one. Please note that all our courses, events, trips, course-related activities, clinics, seminars, and lodge stays have feedback forms so that you give feedback for everything in which you participate. You’ll get an email reminder to do so just after the activity. If your feedback is of urgent nature it may be best to contact the chair of the committee that sponsors that program directly.   1. Goal Oriented Course Sequence Training Plans

    Hello Mountaineer Community!

    I'm new to the club, so forgive me if this question has either previously been asked or if the answers currently already exist.

    Would it be possible to have a recommended course & activity sequence plan that was goal oriented? For example: I would like to climb Mt. Rainier. What courses and activities would be best to position me for such an attempt, and in what sequence?

    From what I've seen many of the classes act as stand alone training and education programs with some degree of overlap to ensure critical skill coverage.

  2. Allow "Requested Info" field to be either required or optional during participant registration

    Add the option to either the "Requested Info" is required or optional when a participant register an activity, clinic or seminar. Currently this field is optional and participant can still register if this field is not filled up.
    This option should be applied where ever the "Requested Info" is available when the item is created or edited.

  3. Trip closure delinquency notice ~SFOnly

    Automatically mail out to leaders on a quarterly basis a list of trips that have not yet been closed out, say are one month past.

    Completed Nov 2020. We will send a reminder for each activity that is still open seven days after the activity’s end date. We will send each leader a quarterly reminder to close any activities that are still open and happened in th last 365 days.

  4. Only insert new instructors to course roster GH3157

    When an instructor signs up for a workshop or field trip then they are automatically added as an "Instructor" at the course level, I believe this is new functionality. However, if that person is already set as a course "Leader" then they are demoted to be a course "Instructor". It seems like the new automatic behavior should only happen if the person is not currently on the course roster.

  5. book recommendations

    It would be nice if we could recommend books other than those published by the Mountaineers. For the Naturalists' annual course, they use a book that is better than what the Mountaineers has published. For the Photography Committee, there are really only two instruction books published by the Mountaineers. We should be able to add any book listed on Amazon to better help our students.

  6. Improve badge display sort on course view

    I have a low priority website UI feature request. For courses which award multiple badges to graduates, it would be nice if the list of badges were sorted nicer. One sort method could be "Course badges first then Skill badges, and within those by alphabetical". Here's the 2020 Seattle Basic course as an example of messy badges...

  7. Add "Applied" as a Registration Status Option GH2950

    Add a status that the course leader could assign when they manually add an applicant to the roster, before they have been accepted or declined. eg. the Basic Climbing Course roster would have 300 applicants that were manually entered by the leaders. (this has the problems of communicating to applicants to create a guest account and probably too much admin burden for leaders). As students are accepted, they are moved to "offered" at which point they can pay for the course. All who aren't accepted simply remain on the "applied" roster. This would allow a quick report for following years…

  8. Allow course leaders to offer spots to students whose offer has expired GH2971

    Right now students are offered a spot and they have 5 days to complete offer and then they are put into cancelled mode. Students also can be trying to complete their offer online and for courses where you have to pick field trips they often navigate away from the screen to check calendars and when they come back the 30 minutes is up and they have been kicked into cancelled mode. Both of these cancellations usually result in the student reaching out to the course leader and the course leader is unable to offer them a spot so instead member…

  9. Clarify rolling enrollment confirmation emails ~SFOnly

    Right now the email shows only the start date of the first course lecture/field trip which is confusing. Make it so both start and end dates show AND it states that it is rolling enrollment and the individual course dates will be shown in separate activity email

  10. Give notification to leader if posting course related activity outside course date range

    Provide error message/notification if creating a course related activity that is outside of any course's current date range. I listed an optional lecture and it wouldn't show up in the course but I couldn't figure out why. Turns out it was after the original course listings end date.

    Thanks for bringing this to our attention. This one is a bit tricky, because there can be a currently running and future scheduled course and knowing which one to check is a challenging decision.

  11. Allow application files directly uploaded to course edit form GH2764

    Make it so I can directly upload my course application on the course Edit form. Having to find my url and remember which folder i uploaded my application in is confusing and not intuitive.

    We added a link to the help text that opens the Course Materials folder in a new tab or window so that a file or web form can be added or its URL copied more easily. It’s one click up to the course template and it’s other folders if the application form is stored in a folder other than in the Course Materials folder.

  12. Provide easy way to email participants based on their role

    For large course field trips it is common for instructors and students to show up at different times, which means that instructors will usually carpool with other instructors, and students with other students. To set up those carpools it would be helpful if the "Email Participants" screen had a way to quickly select participants based on their role, i.e. all instructors, all students, all leaders. Yes, it's currently possible to use the per-person check boxes to this now, but some large field trips (Navigation, Snowshoe, Scramble) can have as many as 90 participants, so selecting them individually is tedious and…

  13. Create a "Do Not Send Automatic Confirmation Email" checkbox to activities or activity templates GH2002

    In some cases like summer camp field trips and/or required lectures for courses, its confusing or annoying to members to receive confirmation emails. We would like to be able to turn off this functionality in certain cases like this.

  14. Make the course application hyperlink text into a more prominent blue button GH2176

    Currently, there is tiny hyperlink text above the register button for a course for a person to submit an online application. I would like to see that as a prominent blue button above the yellow register button. The hyperlink text just doesn't jump out.

    We asked leaders to include times in their course activity listings.

  16. Fix Rolling Enrollment Date Structure

    Make sure that you can set up a course for rolling enrollment that then closes after the course end date so if you have 8 workshops under one course header for 2014 you can start over in 2015 with a new course and 8 new field trips that don't get rolled into one. This helps avoid huge course rosters to maintain.

    For course activities, include the location even when there is only ONE location.

    Example: (1st FT listing is great, 2nd FT listings is poor)

    It's giving me the non-member price for the course even though I have a membership in my shopping cart.

  19. Registration Portlet Checkbox Update for Adult Courses GH2751

    For an adult registering for an adult course (i.e. one that's NOT a Youth Program), display this text The leader of this course has explicitly given me permission to register and I understand I may be permanently deleted from the roster if I sign up without that permission. I further verify that I have the skill requirements necessary to safely participate. {Request Leader's Permission} if no application form URL is specified and the person registering is not a youth.

  20. Course Activity Data Export Improvement GH3028

    Investigate alternatives for the Course Activities Export. It takes several minutes to get the datatables view, because there are often several thousand records associated with the request. There may be more, but few options are:


    • Check how much overhead there is in Diazo processing of the markup? Avoiding that may be one reason that converting the main course roster view to be React-based helped so much. If that's correct you could possibly load this part of the page in an iframe that bypasses Diazo.


    • A bit off the wall... After clicking the "download" button, display a message (in a popup?)…
