  1. Instructors for seminar/clinics GH2883

I just noticed there's no option for an "instructor" role in the seminar/clinic template. Can we add this? Seminars/clinics are often course-like in that they have instructors.

    thanks!

  2. Course activity review tool for courses with 2-3 activities SD664

Include some bulk review and update tools for courses where we only 2-3 required activities. For courses like WFA, Navigation or Basic Snowshoeing with just a couple required field trips/lectures make a roster preview and download that allows you see that a student is registered for all required activities and then their participant result and probably participant notes. This is probably exception report for a course roster compared to 1-3 activity template roster (on screen and download).

For more involved courses we are hoping to build a mega download of all activities for students involved in that course. See listing…

  3. Create functionality that allows the use of course pages to assign badges to students opting for the modular route w/ other system org wide

As courses create a modularized option (such as Basic Alpine), and where course and committee leaders use course pages as a way to easily assign badges to students that complete all of the requirements, a way to catch or exclude repeated rosters and data points across all of our systems and for the organization as a whole is needed.

Course leaders have requested the use of course pages as a way to more easily and efficiently assign badges themselves instead of the need to pass off to staff. However, this could create duplicate data points in our integrated software services…

This is really about our report and dashboard statistics. Assigning a course badge via equivalency or by having completed other courses or activities that lead to the requisite skills can done in a few ways. There is some concern that having “extra” courses to assign these badges will skew our statistics. We need to determine whether this is a real concern worth addressing and, if so, how best to do that.

  4. Course page not loading with high volume visitation GH2785

When course participants visit this page at the same time and try and click Manage Registration no one else can visit the course page. Specifically we had about 75 out of the 100 participants were online trying to sign up for their hikes at 9:00AM yesterday. We had 25 hikes that all went "live" for registration at 9:00 (these are our April CHS hikes). The offerings were split evenly -- 12 CHS1 hikes and 13 CHS2 hikes -- and, from what I can see, the participants were attempting to sign up for a real variety, not just 2 or 3…

We’ve optimized the course page and manage course activity registration dialog, and added a sever that we can turn on as needed for times like these when there are many people registering for many course activities.

  5. Fade the badge image (but keep on profile) when a badge expires

Instead of removing the badge image from someone's profile when their badge expires, it would be nice to fade the image ... this would show that the badge is no longer current, but it would also provide a better snapshot "history" of that person's past participation.

  6. practice sessions

In order to accommodate activities that are not trips and not instructional in nature, we would like to create a category called "practice sessions" that function exactly like clinics. Currently, these would be used to house pool practice sessions (currently listed as clinics) and open climb nights (currently listed as events and therefore we aren't requiring online waivers or QYL for youth to come). We (Sara, Becca, Tess) think that this could potentially require very little development and have a positive impact across the organization. I'm happy to chat more about it!

This would require project-level development. We already leaders and members struggling to understand how we categorize things and this would more likely add to that confusion.

  7. Add Requested Info field to Courses GH2756

Add an additional field on courses that prompts students to provide info when signing up for a course. For summer camps this can allow us to collect T-shirt size or could be used for questions about kayak rentals for kayak students etc.

  8. Hide Payment Pending from Add to Roster Dialog Box GH2755

Make it so Payment Pending is not a status available for leaders/admins to choose from the Add person to roster dialogue box. Offered is the status that should be used to hold a slot for someone in a course and allows them to process payment. Payment Pending is the quick status that someone goes into when they have 15 minutes to process course and acitivty and lodge registrations in their shopping carts.

  9. Show Events in a Course's "Course Requirements" Tab GH2827

We often have graduation celebrations at the end of a course. These are just events to which the committee, leaders, instructors, students, graduates and former graduates are invited to attend. It would be great if they could be RSVP-style events that appear in the course's "Course Requirements" tab. That would save having to "double list" by listing an activity that is really not needed an would also need to be closed.

Implementation Note: Add a field to the Event add/edit form to choose one or more Course Templates to list the event on courses within that template and where the…

  10. Add Ability to Exclude Instructors from Getting Registration Conflict Check for a Course Activity SD667

Make it so instructors can be excluded from conflict checking but not participants. For example for pool play sessions for sea kayaking course we need instructors for afternoon and morning sessions but students we only want to be able to sign up for one session.

  11. Give notification to leader if posting course related activity outside course date range

Provide error message/notification if creating a course related activity that is outside of any course's current date range. I listed an optional lecture and it wouldn't show up in the course but I couldn't figure out why. Turns out it was after the original course listings end date.

Thanks for bringing this to our attention. This one is a bit tricky, because there can be a currently running and future scheduled course and knowing which one to check is a challenging decision.

  12. Skill Badges as Activity Prerequisites SD313/414

Some benefits to using skill badges as prerequisites for activities include:
--Lessening bureaucracy and improving course administration. For example, Basic Climbing Admins would be able to track student progress online, rather than manually in booklets, and it can ensure that Basic Climbing students cannot register for glacier climbs until they've successfully completed glacier skills training.
--Allowing course leaders to specify leader prerequisites for skills conditioners, allowing people to grow into leadership, broadening the leadership funnel.
--Encouraging leaders who are reluctant to take students they don’t know on climbs to open them up, because they will be able to see more…

  13. Allow application files directly uploaded to course edit form GH2764

Make it so I can directly upload my course application on the course Edit form. Having to find my url and remember which folder i uploaded my application in is confusing and not intuitive.

We added a link to the help text that opens the Course Materials folder in a new tab or window so that a file or web form can be added or its URL copied more easily. It’s one click up to the course template and it’s other folders if the application form is stored in a folder other than in the Course Materials folder.

  14. Allow application for course to be accessed even when registration is closed or hasnt opened GH2113

This is important for anything like basic climbing that has a longer application that they want people to be able to fill out ahead of time. Right now you can add the application to the course but it doesn't show in the portlet until registration opens.

Potential students will now see the info and link to the course application or that the course require leader’s permission even if the course is not yet open for registration.

  15. Provide easy way to email participants based on their role

For large course field trips it is common for instructors and students to show up at different times, which means that instructors will usually carpool with other instructors, and students with other students. To set up those carpools it would be helpful if the "Email Participants" screen had a way to quickly select participants based on their role, i.e. all instructors, all students, all leaders. Yes, it's currently possible to use the per-person check boxes to this now, but some large field trips (Navigation, Snowshoe, Scramble) can have as many as 90 participants, so selecting them individually is tedious and…

  16. Add the Registration Date/Time to the Course Registration Edit Form GH1965

Add the Registration Date/Time to the course registration modal dialog and only show it to site admins so that we can have more flexibility in making waitlist and other roster adjustments to course like we do for activities.

    Example: https://www.mountaineers.org/about/branches-committees/tacoma-branch/committees/tacoma-hiking-backpacking-committee/course-templates/introduction-to-backpacking-tacoma/introduction-to-backpacking-tacoma-2016-1/team-roster

  17. Create a "Do Not Send Automatic Confirmation Email" checkbox to activities or activity templates GH2002

In some cases like summer camp field trips and/or required lectures for courses, its confusing or annoying to members to receive confirmation emails. We would like to be able to turn off this functionality in certain cases like this.

  18. Make separate feedback form for instructors at field trips GH1865

Feedback form is identical for both participants and instructors at a field trip - the questions should be tailored differently.

We had a separate instructor feedback form for course listings only and now we have a separate form for instructors at field trips rather than the same form as participants.

We are now gathering info about whether leaders felt prepared for their role in addition to the regular safety and curriculum feedback info.

  19. Course feedback form should request that students name their instructor

Course feedback form should request that students name their instructor so we can learn from the good instructors and help the poor ones. Currently the comments are lumped together. Comments like "my instructor was great" and "my instructor was poor", don't do us any good because we don't know who they are talking about.

The course related field trip surveys now include the following text to help identify which instructors may need additional support. “Could you give the reasons why you rated the instructors the way you did?
Please list specific names of instructors if possible so we can pass on the feedback.”

  20. Allow a course to have multiple course types GH1640

I'd like to be able to list a course under two categories. For example Winter Travel for Everett was snowshoeing and cross country skiing so should be able to be listed under both. Scramble leader seminars or hike leader seminars ideally should get an outdoor leadership and the activity type tag

Courses now can have multiple course types. THis lives in the course template and is particularly useful for courses like winter travel that need to be earmarked as Snowshoe and Cross Country Ski or hiking and backpacking seminars that cover both activity types.
