  1. Semi-commercial glacier /basic climbs

It is very hard to sign up for glacier climbs or basic climbs unless you are a student. There is a huge waiting list for those non-students and it is hard to track. Then it is hard to plan ahead if suddenly you are being moved from waiting list. I propose to create structure where there will be opportunity for paying extra but it will be for members who graduated from basic or have skills but don’t have time to track various waiting lists and just want to climb. I found zero climbs for non-students. I would gladly pay to…

Thank you for submitting your idea! I appreciate the frustration you feel and as an organization we will explore how we can provide more open climbs within our dedicated but limited climb leader volunteer pool. However, it is not possible for us to apply any sort of fees to our climbs as the permits we acquire do not allow for it.

  2. My Activities text when empty

The text that shows when I have no future activities says: "You haven't registered for any activities yet." This is false, as the extensive activity history that opens below testifies.

I propose language such as: "You have no upcoming activities."

  3. Add details to personal notification emails

Many activities (especially climbing) have specific notes from leaders that the activity is restricted to a specific group within the branch. This puts the participants in disbelief about finding climbs to go on.
As climb leaders have gotten better at stating these restrictions on the activity page, having activity descriptions and leader notes added to the notification email would be highly appreciated by the member - so we can have a more informed decision to click on the link and reach out to the leader. This will reduce the traffic on the website and will improve the well-being of our…

    Hello KD -

Thank you for submitting your idea! We have looked into your request but due to the lack of standard across all activities mixed with our cross-activity auto-email functionality there is not a clean way to solve this member concern via email. There is another idea out there in the forum that I believe meets a similar ask as to make it clearer what activities are specific to special interest groups or branches. The open idea is here if you would like to vote for it!

  4. Map units in feet

Wouldn't it be cool if the maps on the website displayed elevation in feet rather than meters?

    Hello Sahand -

Thank you for submitting your idea! We have reviewed this idea with our developers and unfortunately this is not a quick change. While feet would be nice to have, it would not be something we would prioritize at this time over new functionality changes. If we work on our map feature in the future, we will consider adding this to the list if there is enough overlap in the development required!

  5. Add the concept of an "after hours" weekday activity, allow for filtering by that value

    Based on https://feedback.mountaineers.org/forums/273688-general-feedback/suggestions/7486552-display-activity-start-time-next-to-date

Many people work during the day. It would be useful if we could search for activities that are designed to be "after work".

The original concept of filtering by start time was shot down in 2016, maybe this concept of a binary flag is more achievable?

This idea is closing as it did not reach enough votes/engagement over the past few years to be prioritized. This is also difficult for us to implement as we do not store start/end times for activities so it is not a data point we could filter on. We do have plans to add a day of the week filter in the future to help people search activities based on their personal availability. To learn more about the updated feedback status options and process, visit this blog: https://www.mountaineers.org/blog/new-technology-experience-manager-feedback-management-improvements

  6. Add email alert for canceled activities

Seems as if several outings I was interested in for this summer have been canceled including one I was going to register for today. It would be great if a message about cancellations could go out in the same fashion as announcements for new activities so we don't hold dates open on our calendars or make travel arrangements for events which aren't taking place.

  7. Rename "Exploring Nature" as "Nature hikes"

I'm a new member, having been unable to hike for years because of joint replacement surgeries. I am starting out with nature hikes because they are often less strenuous. It took awhile to find the right page, because the hikes were labeled "Exploring Nature." It would be easier to find this page if it were called "Nature hikes."

  8. Leader's Permission Request activation date

It is unclear when leader permission for an activity should be requested. Some leaders may intend for the request to occur after registration opens, but many requests are in advance. Wise trip leaders make it clear in the description. It might take some burden off leaders to assign a date to this that is visible on the activity.

    Hello Chris -

Thank you for submitting your idea! This was reviewed and while there is benefit in the idea for some of the ways that leaders may handle 'Leadership Permission', each leader handles this process a little differently. Given this field would only be used by a portion of our trips, this is not something we can prioritize at this time given the work around of having this information listed as part of the activity description. If we make changes in the future to our 'Leadership Permission' process we can reconsider this ask then!

  9. Display "Leader's Permission Required" and Registration Opening Date on Field Trip Pages

It would be nice if it showed up the page I look at and have the opening date like the climbs I post.

  10. Lead Activity Again via "Single Activity Cloning"

To make it easier for leaders to schedule an activity that they've already led, add what is sort of a copy-and-paste/single clone feature and display on the Lead Activity Again button in the "Manage Activity" portlet.

This new "single clone" feature would:
    - Create a copy of the activity
    - Place it in the same folder as the activity being copied
    - Increment it's URL as if it were made by staring with the route/place
    - Run all of error and conflict checks
    - Display the newly added/copied activity's edit form with any errors

  11. Add Kilometres to the "Length Units" on the posting activity page.

We should have this option- we can post the km on the Pace. It makes absolutely no sense that we can't post the distance of the pace they are moving at with the same measurement
Maybe we should get onto the '70s and make this an option?

  12. Link Green Trails Maps Purchase to Activities & Courses Listings

Populate course and activity listings with Green Trails map purchases in parallel with Mountaineers Books listings. Why? 1) Facilitate, encourage carrying hard copy topo maps. 2) Support Books efforts to recover lost revenue

Hello Peter - Thank you for submitting your idea and thinking about how we can better incorporate books into our programs and activities! I think everyone would agree that there are opportunities to enhance the 'recommended reading' list - but unfortunately this is not something we are going to be able to improve with staff time. Today, staff does the best we can to handle the updates submitted by members to our current routes/places, we are not in a position to staff this process to its fullest. If improvements to the process are going to be made, it will have to come through passionate volunteers. If a group does decide to organize around routes places and recommended reading around this, we will see where and how staff can support as we do for other committees/groups.

  13. Favorites: Flag interest on an activity

I would like to see a feature in the website to let me flag to myself that I am interested in signing up for an activity, that I can return to with a filter and decide whether to sign up or let it slip. Personally, I would not care if my interest flags were visible to others.

    Hello All-

Thank you for your interest in this idea and Bob for submitting it a few years back. We always look for additional feedback and ideas to see what fits within our development budget and product roadmap. This idea was reviewed internally and with our developers and unfortunately is going to close. Developing this sort of personalized tag on activities would be significant and not something we can prioritize over the improvements to our core functionality. Thanks again for participating in our feedback to make our community's technology offerings stronger. If something changes in the future and this is possible we can revisit!

This idea is closing as it did not reach enough votes/engagement over the past few years to be prioritized. Today, leaders are able to get around this by joining as in 'instructor' for another branch that the activity is under. The reason why this is difficult to implement today is because each activity must belong to a singular branch as each branch has different requirements, procedures, etc.

  15. Allow leaders to update a student's participation notes after a field trip is closed

Leaders add participation notes to a student's profile if they fail to pass a critical skill and need reevaluation before they can register for a climb. We need to be able to update the participation note to include information when they do pass the skill, but this means we can't close the activity until all students have passed, unless we contact the program center to reopen. It would be nice if we could update participation notes.

  16. Participant Note Types

    Participant Note Types:

Enhance participant notes capability so that users with the ability to add participant notes may select from a range of pre-determined “note types” (still to be determined, but could include “positive comment, future leader potential, conditioning issue, behavior issue, other comment”) when entering participant notes in addition to entering free text notes. Note types as well as free text become a part of a member’s profile.

    Filtering Note Types:

Users with the ability to research participant notes are able to filter participant notes by the pre-determined note types. This allows activity leaders and committee leaders to quickly…

This idea is closing as it did not reach enough votes/engagement over the past few years to be prioritized. Also, looking at all activities completed by members in the last year (100k+), <1% contain participant notes. While notes are important, there are not enough of them to require categorization. 17. Include all fields in the CSV download after an activity closes GH2929

As an admin or a leader, I would like to see all fields in the CSV download so that I can better manage courses and activities. Also reorder the fields so that like information is grouped.

  18. "Suggested Alternate Activities" when Registering for the Waitlist

It would be great if we could have "suggested alternate activities" pop-up when someone registers for the waitlist on an activity. This might look like the page that shows of recommended books. Alternate activities would be of similar difficulty, they would have availability, and they would be open or upcoming. The hope would be to try to get folks off our waitlist and into activities with availability.

    Hello Sara -

Thank you for submitting the idea! This was reviewed and while we agree it could help some members find activities, it is unfortunately not something we are in the position to pursue at the moment. Our current plan is to prioritize improvements to our activity search filter and sorting capabilities to help members more easily find activities. We believe that this will help members find multiple activities that are relevant to them to hopefully find alternatives if an activity is on a waitlist.

  19. Show "Late Cancellation" as a Participant Result

Show "Late Cancellation" as a status on the Participant Result, if participant cancels after registration is closed. This would be an additional option to Cancelled and No Show, which already exist. No changes to existing, automated emails.

Hello All - This idea was discussed and is not going to be pursued. We appreciate and recognize the frustration of late cancellations, but want to focus our efforts on ways to change member's behaviors to avoid late cancellations. Currently, when late cancellations happen, we send an email reminding that person of the impact of late cancellations and to avoid such cancellations in the future. We encourage leaders to consider using participation notes when appropriate.

  20. When a leader sets a trip to 'private' status, turn off visibility to leaders

Sometimes a committee administrator has time to create multiple listings in advance on behalf of leaders but doesn't want them to be visible to anyone until the trip opens for registration, so they set them to 'private' for a few days or weeks. Particularly the case for Global Adventures but also for some course field trips. However right now all listings are visible to any leader even when marked private. The whole point of marking something private is so that no one gets the advantage of advance visibility for that activity. Can we make any 'private' status activity be invisible…
