This forum is for you to share ideas and exchange feedback with Mountaineers members, guests, volunteers, and leadership. You may vote for or comment on any forum idea and will be notified of status changes to that idea. Your feedback helps us prioritize projects and improvements for our organization. We receive lots of great ideas, so please search the forum first before adding a new one. If your idea is not yet in our forum, please post it with a simple title and an explanation of your idea and how it benefits The Mountaineers. Please note that all our courses, events, trips and course-related activities have feedback forms so that you give feedback for every activity in which you participate. You’ll get an email reminder to do so just after the activity. If your feedback is of urgent nature it may be best to contact the chair of the committee that sponsors that program directly. If there was a safety incident or near miss, you will have the opportunity for submitting an Incident Report after submitting activity feedback. You may also use the Incident Report button on the activity detail page (from your My Activities page) or contact our Safety Committee directly at safety@mountaineers.org.

  1. Need Feedback Survey for Lodge Stays SD634

    Right now there is no way for participants to submit feedback on their lodge stay. Create a web form survey like we do activities, courses, and events. On Mondays (or maybe Tuesdays to account for the holiday weekends), send a link to anyone who stayed at the lodge in the last seven days. Aggregate this feedback on the lodge pages.

  2. Leader "Difficulty" Rating Default to Blank GH2331

    Currently when listing a new activity, the "Leader Rating" field defaults to "For Beginners (Getting Started Series)" There are cases where a trip is NOT for beginners, but the leader never changed their rating. Can the Leader Rating default to blank, and require the leader to select one of the options rather than default to For Beginners?

  3. Make it easier to view past Participation Notes for all Participants on a Roster GH2763

    From the activity roster it would be helpful to have a quick link to go participation notes. Right now its about 4 clicks from the activity to view someone's participation notes. This is tedious to do for 12 people on a roster. Viewing participation notes is helpful for trip planning and ensuring safety of a trip and mitigate any negative group dynamics.

  4. Summit register at Mount Olympus Middle Peak

    Need to make the Mountaineers summit register at Mount Olympus Middle Peak watertight and bring a register to put in it next time someone goes up there. I looked in it a few days ago. A few soaked scraps of paper is all that is in there. It is the first Mountaineers summit register container I have seen on any peak. Maybe this has some historical value? Will email a photo of it.

    Hi Jerry,

    We’ve added a note on the Mt. Olympus route/place listing that the middle summit is missing a register and that registers are available at the Seattle Program Center.

    We are also able to mail paper registers to people who aren’t able to stop by the program center and have their own summit tupperware or other watertight container. Email info@mountaineers.org if you have a summit attempt booked and want a register.

    Add a "My Trip Reports" page to the My Profile area so that members can find their own trip reports and trip reports by others easier.

  6. Enable trip leaders to Identify Potential Leaders on a Trip

    Currently, trip participants can rate trip leaders. Trip leaders need to be able to rate trip participants. Specifically, trip leaders need to be able to identify trip participants who demonstrate attributes of a future trip leader, and this information needs to be shared with branch committee leadership so they can follow-up with the potential trip leader and encourage them to take the appropriate next steps to volunteer as a trip leader.

  7. Offered Status Deadline - Transparent date/time (SF only)

    Add specific date/time in offer email for the five-day cut-off. It currently says "5 days" but participants often want a specific time as to when they will be moved off.

    This will help us better justify when a person is moved from the offered status and create more transparency in the process.

  8. Search closed activities

    I would like a way to search recently completed trips, so I can contact trip leaders for current route beta. This could be as simple as a checkbox on the activity search page for "Search only past/closed activities".

    Thanks for the suggestion. You can use the “Starting…” section to find past activities. The “Start” and “End” dates mean "I want activities that occur between “Start Date” and “End Date.” This works for Find Activities (https://www.mountaineers.org/explore/activities) and site search (https://www.mountaineers.org/search).

    Also note that our Routes & Places (https://www.mountaineers.org/explore/routes-places) have trip reports associated with them. This may be a good source of information from trips from more than just our leaders.

    On the download of both Individual Lodge Stay Rosters and the View Lodge Stay Rosters, add these columns as the right-most columns:

    - Age
    - Membership Status
    - Carpool Preference

  10. Require Leaders to update their Waivers before listing a trip GH2429

    Require Leaders to update their waivers before listing a trip. Right now this can be over-ridden by leaders which doesn't make sense since we want EVERYONE on the roster to have an up to date waiver.

  11. Add ability to adjust map zoom level on location tab GH2513

    Map zoom level is not saved during the editing process for an activity/course/etc. The displayed map defaults to a specific zoom level that centered on the location pin.

    It would be helpful to be able to set the level of zoom without making the user use the +/- button.

  12. Redesign Website Header and Sitemap, and Integrate mountaineersbooks.org with mountaineers.org SD579

    Redesign our website header so it is better for mid-size mobile devices and re-organize our site map so that it better includes features we've added since launch (e.g. selling books, find volunteers, lodges), etc. This will involve UX design and some graphic design work.

    Add "Locations" to the top level and move Branches, Outdoor Centers and Program Centers there.

    Selling eBooks, ability to use promo codes currently in use on mountaineersbooks.org (e.g. buy one get one free) and content migration (pages, blogs, calendars, etc.) are the key considerations. Integrating our two websites will eliminate confusion of where to purchase books,…

  13. Improve Roster Functionality: Course Template Rosters

    Add pagination and search/filter features to allow for better handling of these large rosters so they can be a more useful instructor recruitment tool. Being able to filter by curren tmembers, roles, graduation dates before download.

  14. Have leader's permission emails indicate whether assistant leader or participant

    As a trip leader it'd would be nice if the permission request emails specify in the subject whether the request is for a participant or an assistant leader. This way the leader could handle emails differently, i.e. use different email rules, or simply, trying to make sure they have enough leaders earlier than accepting participants. Maybe a drop-down for the type of request or separate links would be a solution - i.e., "click here to request permission as participant" and "click here to request permission as leader"

    Right now when you open My Courses & Programs and then open courses that have activities in the future and past it looks a little messy, it'd be better to have them open in a separate modal dialogue

  16. Make it so the alpine scramble template can't be chosen during the winter months

    During the winter months, roughly October 15 - April 15, we require that trips must be listed as "Winter Scramble" rather than "Alpine Scramble", this is because different badges are required for scrambling during the winter months. Unfortunately, from time-to-time a leader accidentally lists the trip as Alpine Scramble, allowing people to register who should not be qualified.

    Is there any way to prevent the listing of "Alpine Scramble" trips during winter months, so only the "Winter Scramble" is allowed?

    We re-ordered the activity templates in the activity scheduling process drop down, so “Alpine Scrambling” and “Winter Scramble” are next to each other, so leaders can easily choose the correct template.

    Winter scrambles are conditions and weather dependent so a fixed set of dates is not as flexible as this.

  17. Make Incomplete fields on youth form easier to see GH2332

    Make it easier to see incomplete fields on the youth forms. Right now the pinkish/red color is a bit too light making it hard for parents to complete the forms fully.
