  2. Open source the website and allow members to submit pull requests

Being based in Seattle, the Mountaineers is filled with software engineers, many of whom are chomping at the bit to contribute minor (and major) website changes that would remove some significant pain point or improve the experience. There seems to be a ton of low hanging fruit that could be knocked out fairly quickly by a set of people who are among the best coders in the world.

Obviously, we can't allow anyone to make whatever changes they want, but the model most open source projects use seems reasonable to follow, especially for a non-profit, volunteer run club. That is,…

  3. Remove web trackers from the web site

I recently observed that mountaineers.org had web trackers for

    doubleclick.net
    Facebook.com
    Facebook.net

I dislike having my activity on the web survailed. Why should an advertising consortium or Facebook know what I'm doing on the mountaineers web site?

Do the members or the organization benefit from allowing these trackers? If not, please I would much prefer they not be on our web site.

Hello Tom/Jon - Appreciate your patience on this idea as we worked through transitioning/onboarding of my new role as Technology Experience Manager.

Great question! Happy to provide clarity. The Facebook and Google (owns doubleclick.net) trackers on our website assist in our ability to track the performance of ads that The Mountaineers runs on these platforms. This helps us understand how successful these ads are and what occurs after the user follows the ad to our website. It is less common that we run Facebook ads, but have a Google ad grant that helps us find people who may be interested in our books and programs.

We do not sell any data that we collect from members or from trackers. To learn more about our privacy policy and how we limit the user of the data we collect for the benefit of our members please visit here: https://www.mountaineers.org/legal/privacy-policy

  4. Website access from Germany

The site seems slow from Germany.... I travel a lot but access from California is good. However from abroad it sometimes takes 3 minutes to load the homepage.

  5. Phone Hyperlink

Taking a phone call today from a member, they were frustrated that a when they viewed a phone number on mountaineers.org from their phone browser, they were not able to click on it and have it automatically call. They see this feature on other websites and would like to submit it for improvement for ours.

Hello Bri - I am working through the UV tickets as part of our updated UV status/pipeline process and wanted to let you know that I am closing this ticket due to the lack of additional votes and the updates to smart phones that should solve this issue. Now on phones, if the number is not already a clickable link, you can hold down on the number and then the phone will provide multiple options including to call the number or to copy and paste it into their preferred app for calling. To learn more about the updated feedback status options and process, visit this blog: https://www.mountaineers.org/blog/new-technology-experience-manager-feedback-management-improvements

  6. Road condition

It can be a little difficult to get a clear idea about road conditions from the activity description. It would be helpful if a section is added specifically for this purpose.

The description can include weather factors (such as snow, ice), road quality (fully paved, gravel, large potholes), and lastly type of cars preferred (accessible for all cars, accessible for 4WD, tire chains required).

This would help participants plan better, arrange carpools if needed. It would also reduce the need for organizers to respond to individual questions from participants regarding road conditions.

  7. SSO and Salesforce integration for MyTurn gear library database

We'll be transitioning to MyTurn in Fall 2021-Winter 2022 to manage our Gear Library inventory and lending. In an ideal world, I'd love to have SSO between MyTurn and The Mountaineers website, and to also have MyTurn data import into Salesforce so we can track lending against other member activity.

  12. Need to add links to Branch websites under the "Branches and Committees" page of the main Mountaineers.org website

Some of the branches, like the Olympia branch, have stand alone websites that provide much more information on their officers, committees, and activities than the main mountaineers.org website. It would be beneficial to all to clearly link the individual branch webpages to their respective branch pages under the "Branches and Committees" page of the Mountaineers.org site.
I wasted a ton of time trying to find detailed info about the Olympia Branch on the Mountaineers.org site only to give up. I was finally told about the olympiamountaineers.org site and voila, there was all of the info I needed. A direct link…

  14. Create online credit card intake form for credit cards for all rental clients

    Hey Jeff,

I'm putting this here to request we make an online form that will allow our rental clients to submit credit card information and to authorize we charge their card for rental deposits and final payments. This eventually needs to be a broader conversation with Gabriella and Barbara because they actual do the charging and I collect the information.

    Benefits:
    - Reduced time in playing phone tag with clients.

    • Better experience with clients and faster turn-around time between inquery/booking/deposit/final payment

    • Easier to require CC information to be kept on file for deliquent charges or additional costs. It can often…

  15. Promo Codes: Dollar Amount Discount for "Entire" Shopping Cart SD410

As a site visitor allow me to use a promo code that gives me a dollar amount discount on everything in my shopping cart up to the total amount of items in my shopping cart that qualifies.

This could be quite useful for volunteer recognition.

  16. Selecting from the Dropdown

When you select from the search/suggestions box ("You May Also Like" section, for instance), it jumps around and makes it hard to select with precision.

For example, as admin when I try to create a discount code and I need to add multiple items with the keyword "mountain", it is next to impossible to scroll and pick a tile that is in-between transitions.

Another example is "Recommended Reading" on many of our content types.

  17. Improve Collection Portlet for Main Content Area Below the Title GH2263

Improve the display of a collection portlet that can be display in the main content area of a page just below the title, image and summary. The portlet would continue to be configuration as it is but the display would span the entire page if there is only one (50/50 if there are two and 33/33/33 if there are three. Currently it spans only 33% of the width in all cases.

This would allow our outdoor centers and other committees to elevate their blog content if they wish See attached a example.

  18. Change Shopping Cart Timer Message Text GH2932

Change the shopping cart timer message text to:

You have {time_remaining} minutes to complete your registration and payment or your registration will be canceled to give others a chance to register.”

Where time_remaining is 30, 29, 28, etc. minutes (it starts at 30 minutes, a website setting that can be increased or decreased if needed).

It seems like it might be better to show how many minutes remain to give a better sense of urgency.
