STOP Allowing Registration to Occur Before Registration Begins
Field Trips are full before registration date. Wtf? This makes registration dates pointless!!! As a new Scrambling student I’m patiently waiting for field registration to begin only to realize they are full prior to registration. Members are fine getting leader’s permission but should have to wait till the registration is open to register not before.
4 votesWe provide leader training in our new leader orientation and leadership development programs, in our online resources, and in our Leader Lines email newsletter to address this issue.

Improve Activity Edit Form (sea kayak fields plus pace)
We re-ordered fields to make more sense when listing the activity. Improved and added help text to some of the fields.
We added three fields for kayakers, maximum wind, maximum waves and maximum current. We also added a free form field for pace of the activity.

Please create two "outdoor leadership" activity types ~Salesforce
In order to track what the mountaineers does in terms of outdoor leadership, we would like two activity types:
Leader Development - Leadership Skills
Leader Development - Technical SkillsBelow is the email thread for background:
Here’s a really quick stab at some language, for nothing else than to give us something to edit:Leadership Skills
- May or may not be activity-specific.
- May or may not have a focus on outdoor leadership.- Emphasis on facilitation, instruction, and/or group leadership.
Technical Skills
- Activity-specific.
- Skill development in activity that this person leads or aspires to lead. (Not…7 votesCompleted Feb 2019

Reclassify Snowshoe Routes and Trips Using New S/T Rating System ~WebsiteContent
This posting is the result of 1) a few years of cross-branch discussions among the Snowshoe Programs of the various branches, and 2) email discussions with the Program Center about how to go about changing the rating system used to classify Snowshoe trips. The feedback we received from the Program Center was that the correct way to document our request for changing the website was to post the changed to feedback.mountaineers.org.
The Snowshoe Programs of the various branches would like to change the way that Snowshoe Routes and Trips are rated so that each route/trip has a separate Strenuous and…

The snowshoe Routes & Places, https://www.mountaineers.org/activities/routes-places#b_start=0&c4=Snowshoeing, were updated per the Snowshoe Clubwide Standard, https://www.mountaineers.org/about/vision-leadership/board-of-directors/clubwide-activity-standards/snowshoeing/view.

Leader "Difficulty" Rating Default to Blank GH2331
Currently when listing a new activity, the "Leader Rating" field defaults to "For Beginners (Getting Started Series)" There are cases where a trip is NOT for beginners, but the leader never changed their rating. Can the Leader Rating default to blank, and require the leader to select one of the options rather than default to For Beginners?

Add Email Notification for Comments SD642
Make it so comments on trip reports, blog posts, etc. send an email to the person who posted the trip report so they can respond and have a dialogue about conditions. We'll also need a way to opt out of this email.
Note: If the commenter shared their profile their name is a link that will provide their email address.
2 votesWe have added new notifications that will email the blog author or trip reporter when a new comment or comment reply has occurred on their trip/blog! This was made possibly by altering our notification rules on the website and did not require any new website development. We ensured documentation was updated so that people are aware of this change and how to disable a discussion if they do not want notifications.

Add Title Choices to Routes & Places for Use with Activities GH1476
To make it easier to better title activities where the route place has broadly varying options and alternatives, provide a list of alternate location names that may be used.
Specifically, when scheduling an activity allow the leader to choose an alternate title from an "Alternate Route/Place Title" list that is populated from a route/place "Route/Place Titles for Activity Titles" list.
Here's an example:
For a scramble of "Silver, Tinkham & Abiel Peaks," https://www.mountaineers.org/explore/routes-places/silver-tinkham-abiel-peaks, the activity title currently is and by default after implementing this idea would be:
Alpine Scramble - Silver, Tinkham & Abiel Peaks
Alternate activity titles with…
32 votesWe now have the ability to have alternate titles for routes/places that have a couple different destinations but all use the same access and thus we wouldn’t want two different Mountaineers groups there on the same day.
An example is Snow & Gem Lakes. This trip can now simply be titled Gem Lake or Snow & Gem Lakes. Or if you are only climbing Tinkham and Silver Peaks you can now pick just those two peaks even though the listing has Silver, Abiel & Tinkham Peaks.
The ability to switch to an alternate title is in the Route/Place tab when you are in the activity edit form while scheduling or editing an activity. It’s the same place you’d edit the date or choose a new route/place for the activity.
Please note that this alternate title is not supposed to replace the summary. For example the title is not Gem Lake…

The doors are closed to most of us.
Publish lists of truly open events where organizers are not micromanaging who can attend. The list will be incredibly short. Others have commented on this and per usual someone with 'official authority' to do so deleted their thoughts and suggestions. This is absurd, rude, and asinine. The arrogance demonstrated is remarkable. The issue stands. There are painfully few outings available (particularly for Basic Climbing Grads) to participate in. This does not feel like a club at all, but a set of tight cliques that are energetically guarded.
3 votesHi Douglas,
You are not alone in your frustration about the limited number of climbs for basic grads. In fact I’d encourage you to read this thread and comment on it which discusses this same issue so you can better understand the climb leader’s perspective as well
I am closing this feedback item because we are trying to make sure their aren’t duplicates of the same item. The issue you brought up is incredibly important and was actually discussed recently by the managing committee.
The Managing Committee met on April 30, 2015 and decided to take no action on the issue right now. Central issues that contribute to these frustrations that they identified were a shortage of leaders and the various legitimate needs for pre-filling a roster that should not be disrupted. However, they decided that working on increasing the leader base and monitoring frustrations related to this issue…

Fix Required Input Needed error on roster GHtbd
When you are trying to add someone to the roster it often spits back a "Required Input Needed" error even when you have entered someone's name or email correctly. Fortunately you can just hit Save and override error message but its confusing for new leaders.
2 votesAs best I can tell this was fixed with the Plone 5 update that was live on May 5, 2020. Please let us know if it’s still an issue.

Youth Registration Checkbox for Activities GH2750
For activities, change the checkbox text shown to youth under 18 to: "I have verified that a Qualified Youth Leader will be present for this activity. The youth registrant meets the age and skill requirements and has permission to participate in this activity. <a href="/activities/request-leaders-permission?surveyed-object-uid={PloneUID}">Request Leader's Permission</a>"

See http://feedback.mountaineers.org/forums/273688-general-feedback/suggestions/41632696-registration-portlet-checkbox-update-for-adult-cou for the similar idea for courses. Vote for or subscribe to it to get updates.

Need a way to mark courses/events/activities as led by staff vs. volunteers GH2707
Right now its getting difficult to report volunteer contributions for recognition and annual reporting versus staff contributions.
2 votesA long time coming, but this is finally complete. The Activity, Course, and Event edit forms now all have a “Led by Staff” checkbox that is synced to Salesforce. Sara and decided that we do not need the history, and getting it accurately seemed nearly impossible, given that most of us have led as both staff and a volunteer.

Make it easier to view past Participation Notes for all Participants on a Roster GH2763
From the activity roster it would be helpful to have a quick link to go participation notes. Right now its about 4 clicks from the activity to view someone's participation notes. This is tedious to do for 12 people on a roster. Viewing participation notes is helpful for trip planning and ensuring safety of a trip and mitigate any negative group dynamics.

Change map when destination is changed GH2018
When a trip leader changes the destination [route/place] for an existing trip [activity], the map coordinates [GPS Start and End points] don't change. They should probably change to the new destination [route/place].
[I think we also missed high point when adding and editing an activity. We should add that too when we do this.]

Summit register at Mount Olympus Middle Peak
Need to make the Mountaineers summit register at Mount Olympus Middle Peak watertight and bring a register to put in it next time someone goes up there. I looked in it a few days ago. A few soaked scraps of paper is all that is in there. It is the first Mountaineers summit register container I have seen on any peak. Maybe this has some historical value? Will email a photo of it.
1 voteHi Jerry,
We’ve added a note on the Mt. Olympus route/place listing that the middle summit is missing a register and that registers are available at the Seattle Program Center.
We are also able to mail paper registers to people who aren’t able to stop by the program center and have their own summit tupperware or other watertight container. Email info@mountaineers.org if you have a summit attempt booked and want a register.

Add ability to adjust map zoom level on location tab GH2513
Map zoom level is not saved during the editing process for an activity/course/etc. The displayed map defaults to a specific zoom level that centered on the location pin.
It would be helpful to be able to set the level of zoom without making the user use the +/- button.
0 votesWe are working on fixing Routes & Places that should have their GPS Start and End points farther apart or have no end point, so the zoom is correct based on having two points displayed on the map.
If you find one that looks odd, please send a link to that route/place to info@mountaineers.org or use our Route/Place Updates form, https://www.mountaineers.org/activities/route-place-updates-images-resources.

Have leader's permission emails indicate whether assistant leader or participant
As a trip leader it'd would be nice if the permission request emails specify in the subject whether the request is for a participant or an assistant leader. This way the leader could handle emails differently, i.e. use different email rules, or simply, trying to make sure they have enough leaders earlier than accepting participants. Maybe a drop-down for the type of request or separate links would be a solution - i.e., "click here to request permission as participant" and "click here to request permission as leader"
1 voteIt was easy enough to add a question to the request, there does not seem to be any downside, and there are a few activity types where assistant leaders register themselves, so this is done.

Make it so the alpine scramble template can't be chosen during the winter months
During the winter months, roughly October 15 - April 15, we require that trips must be listed as "Winter Scramble" rather than "Alpine Scramble", this is because different badges are required for scrambling during the winter months. Unfortunately, from time-to-time a leader accidentally lists the trip as Alpine Scramble, allowing people to register who should not be qualified.
Is there any way to prevent the listing of "Alpine Scramble" trips during winter months, so only the "Winter Scramble" is allowed?
1 voteWe re-ordered the activity templates in the activity scheduling process drop down, so “Alpine Scrambling” and “Winter Scramble” are next to each other, so leaders can easily choose the correct template.
Winter scrambles are conditions and weather dependent so a fixed set of dates is not as flexible as this.

Make it possible to use the cursor keys within all text fields when creating or editing an activity.
When setting up and/or editing an activity, it is possible to move the cursor about inside the "Summary" filed but not in the "Meeting Place and Time" and "Required Equipment" fields. As a result, it is very frustrating to enter or correct information in the online activity form.
In other words, when pressing the ⬅️➡️⬆️or ⬇️ keys on my keyboard, the cursor will move accordingly inside the text field "Summary" as one would expect with a normal word processing function.
But in the "Meeting Place and Time" and "Required Equipment" fields, pressing these same ⬅️➡️⬆️or ⬇️ keyboard cursor control keys…
1 voteLast fall, we upgrade our rich text field editing interface. Hopefully, that and perhaps some Apple iOS updates have fixed this issue. If not, please send an email to info@mountaineers.org and we’ll take another look.

Family Activities Exception GH2280
In family activities only, recognize when an adult attached to a youth membership has registered and override the Youth Information Form requirement for youth attached to the registered adult’s membership when they register. They would still need to be required to fill out the Family activities program form because otherwise we’d have no waiver on file for the youth.
Considerations:
What do we do if the parent or parents cancel? This is a family activity which should be parent-child combos, so this does not seem like but…?
From Becca - Is there an option to have the system cancel a…4 votesThis is complete. To make it work, for an activity that is for families, remember to check the “Family activity?” box and choose “Families” in the Activity Audience field.
