Add Title Choices to Routes & Places for Use with Activities GH1476
To make it easier to better title activities where the route place has broadly varying options and alternatives, provide a list of alternate location names that may be used.
Specifically, when scheduling an activity allow the leader to choose an alternate title from an "Alternate Route/Place Title" list that is populated from a route/place "Route/Place Titles for Activity Titles" list.
Here's an example:
For a scramble of "Silver, Tinkham & Abiel Peaks," https://www.mountaineers.org/explore/routes-places/silver-tinkham-abiel-peaks, the activity title currently is and by default after implementing this idea would be:
Alpine Scramble - Silver, Tinkham & Abiel Peaks
Alternate activity titles with…
32 votesWe now have the ability to have alternate titles for routes/places that have a couple different destinations but all use the same access and thus we wouldn’t want two different Mountaineers groups there on the same day.
An example is Snow & Gem Lakes. This trip can now simply be titled Gem Lake or Snow & Gem Lakes. Or if you are only climbing Tinkham and Silver Peaks you can now pick just those two peaks even though the listing has Silver, Abiel & Tinkham Peaks.
The ability to switch to an alternate title is in the Route/Place tab when you are in the activity edit form while scheduling or editing an activity. It’s the same place you’d edit the date or choose a new route/place for the activity.
Please note that this alternate title is not supposed to replace the summary. For example the title is not Gem Lake…

Allow us to list multiple routes-places for different activity types or difficulty levels to the same locale
We've been told that we have to use a generic route-place for an activity going to a particular locale even if that generic route-place is a poor fit to what we plan to do and may turn off potential participants. For example, a route-place may be listed as a scramble or climb and I want to list a hike or backpack there - it will show up in the activity search as a scramble and hikers won't want to do it. Or sometimes a route-place is listed as a hike and I want to do it as a backpack but…
12 votesWhen creating new Routes/Places leaders now have the option of having multiple activities tagged as suitable activities for that Route. For example Marmot Pass can be listed as a Hike and a backpack and Table Mountain (baker) can be listed so it shows up in Skiing and in Snowshoeing.
Additionally when a leader lists an activity for that route/place the activity will default to the mileage and elevation gain and route difficulty but leaders have the ability to change that mileage and elevation gain and difficulty to more accurately describe their specific trip.
When searching for activities via the Find Activities under EXPLORE, the summary statement now shows to set one’s trip apart from other trips. The leader’s chosen difficulty also shows.

Improve Activity Edit Form (sea kayak fields plus pace)
We re-ordered fields to make more sense when listing the activity. Improved and added help text to some of the fields.
We added three fields for kayakers, maximum wind, maximum waves and maximum current. We also added a free form field for pace of the activity.

Leader "Difficulty" Rating Default to Blank GH2331
Currently when listing a new activity, the "Leader Rating" field defaults to "For Beginners (Getting Started Series)" There are cases where a trip is NOT for beginners, but the leader never changed their rating. Can the Leader Rating default to blank, and require the leader to select one of the options rather than default to For Beginners?

Stop stripping line breaks from Leader Permission request comments section
Most people (myself included) when entering information for the leader in the permission request comment box, make an effort to format it as cleanly as possible with line breaks to organize provided information.
However, the code appears to strip all these line breaks from the text and drop a super messy blob of text in the request email that comes to leaders. This makes the leader's job unnecessarily harder because we have to mentally parse the blob back into the requester's intended presentation.
Could we please stop stripping the line breaks and preserve the intended format?
9 votesThank you Jon for the original idea! I wanted to send out a note that this has been completed for both Activity Leadership Permission Requests and Course Leadership Permission Requests. The comment field is now a Rich Text field which will allow for advanced formatting of text and allow for bullet points, tables, and images. This should make it easier for Leaders to review requests - especially when a lot of information was requested.

add scramble category
At the scramble summit, there was unanimous desire to be able to tag a scramble as rock or snow. I gave two suggestions and they didn’t seem to have a strong opinion one way or another.
First: since Winter Scramble is under difficulty, just add Rock Scramble and Snow Scramble. They liked the simplicity of this and that if something is rock/snow you can just tag something as both. They did feel like its not truly a “difficulty” rating, so logically it doesn’t make a lot of sense under difficulty.
Second: Add a “scrambling category”. The benefit here is that…
9 votesThis is easy to do using “Rock Scramble” and “Snow Scramble” in the Difficulty field like we do "Basic Rock Climb and “Basic Glacier Climb.”
We just need volunteers to add these to our scramble Routes & Places. Please send an email to info@mountaineers.org if you are interested in helping. Thanks!

Display trail or route on route/place map GH2019
While it would be a lot of work to populate initially, the question was raised at our committee meeting whether the map for a route/place could actually show the route, rather than just the start and end points. This could come from either a GPS track or from tracing it out on a map. Alternatively, there could be a place, like a "Materials" folder and tab for each route/place, where we could upload a GPX file with the route.
9 votesWe added the capability to add a “Resources” folder and tab to our Routes & Places. I will work with Peter Hendrickson on the process for creating these folders and adding materials.
Here’s an example: https://www.mountaineers.org/explore/routes-places/sam-hill
We’ve also got a blog about this: https://www.mountaineers.org/blog/coming-soon-enhanced-trip-navigation-resources

Have an option to display Learn items and Explore activities in one screen SD360
If I want to see everything going on at all branches for both Explore (activities) and and Learn (courses/clinics/events) in (for example) Sea Kayaking there is not a straight forward way of doing this. I want to look ahead and decide what in the Sea Kayaking world I might like to do and have it all listed chronologically.
9 votesWe just launched all of these changes:
As part of “single activity courses,” we now show the new “single activity courses” in both Find Activities and Find Course, Clinics and Seminars.
We have improved the site-wide search where one can find any kind of content and be able to filter that search on the type of content desire (e.g. activities, courses and/or events).

Reclassify Snowshoe Routes and Trips Using New S/T Rating System ~WebsiteContent
This posting is the result of 1) a few years of cross-branch discussions among the Snowshoe Programs of the various branches, and 2) email discussions with the Program Center about how to go about changing the rating system used to classify Snowshoe trips. The feedback we received from the Program Center was that the correct way to document our request for changing the website was to post the changed to feedback.mountaineers.org.
The Snowshoe Programs of the various branches would like to change the way that Snowshoe Routes and Trips are rated so that each route/trip has a separate Strenuous and…

The snowshoe Routes & Places, https://www.mountaineers.org/activities/routes-places#b_start=0&c4=Snowshoeing, were updated per the Snowshoe Clubwide Standard, https://www.mountaineers.org/about/vision-leadership/board-of-directors/clubwide-activity-standards/snowshoeing/view.

Remove "Getting Started Series" from the Activity Leader Rating GH2781
It's confusing to see "Getting Started Series" in the activity search results as an option when we no longer have a formal "Getting Started Series" program.
7 votesComplete Jun 2022. We removed the "For Beginners (Getting Started Series)" item from the Leader Rating List. Future activities with this rating were changed to "Casual."

Please create two "outdoor leadership" activity types ~Salesforce
In order to track what the mountaineers does in terms of outdoor leadership, we would like two activity types:
Leader Development - Leadership Skills
Leader Development - Technical SkillsBelow is the email thread for background:
Here’s a really quick stab at some language, for nothing else than to give us something to edit:Leadership Skills
- May or may not be activity-specific.
- May or may not have a focus on outdoor leadership.- Emphasis on facilitation, instruction, and/or group leadership.
Technical Skills
- Activity-specific.
- Skill development in activity that this person leads or aspires to lead. (Not…7 votesCompleted Feb 2019

Youth Registration Checkbox for Activities GH2750
For activities, change the checkbox text shown to youth under 18 to: "I have verified that a Qualified Youth Leader will be present for this activity. The youth registrant meets the age and skill requirements and has permission to participate in this activity. <a href="/activities/request-leaders-permission?surveyed-object-uid={PloneUID}">Request Leader's Permission</a>"

Add a show activities from the past check mark box on courses
It would be cool if the Course Requirements tab on the course detail page page included a checkbox labeled “X Show activities from the past” and/or maybe a date range for activities that would be displayed.
7 votesWe can now enable faceted search for course “Activities” folders to allow course administrators to more quickly find particular course activities and more easily manage their courses.
Please send an email to info@mountaineers.org if you’d like this feature enabled on any of your course’s “Activities” folders.

Make it easier to view past Participation Notes for all Participants on a Roster GH2763
From the activity roster it would be helpful to have a quick link to go participation notes. Right now its about 4 clicks from the activity to view someone's participation notes. This is tedious to do for 12 people on a roster. Viewing participation notes is helpful for trip planning and ensuring safety of a trip and mitigate any negative group dynamics.

Capability to add text to an Activity title
Allow the capability to add text to an activity title or add another field
that is displayed in the Activity listing. An example is a sea kayak trip that is at night. It would be nice in the Activity listing for the activity to display "Sea Kayak - Sequim Bay - Night Paddle".5 votesThe first line of the activity summary is now being added to the listing in the Find Activities search so it will say Sea Kayak- Sequim Bay and then directly underneath it will be “Night paddle to observe full moon…”
This allows our leaders to accurately describe their activity and put in a little special “marketing” to show that their paddle (or hike or backpack) isn’t just any old paddle around Sequim etc.

Swap "Meeting place and time" and "Leader's Notes" on trip listing
A frequent leader pain point is participants who obviously don't read the entirety of the trip listing before signing up and especially before requesting leader permission.
Most leaders will put instructions on information they want for leader permission in the "Leader's Notes" section, but many participants don't see it because it ends up hidden under the "More+" collapse link. Some leaders even make a point in ALL CAPS to try to get participants to click "More+".
I believe that swapping these two sections and making "Leader's Notes" the headline that doesn't get hidden would improve this situation and make it…

Stop showing activities that occur TODAY in the "My Activities History" section
Right now, any event I am leading today shows up as the first thing in the "My Activities History" section on my profile. However, this is (and always has been) very annoying, because I have to scroll down to find it. Due to recent (and welcome) website optimizations, the history section loads more slowly, so I have to wait for it to load before I can open the activity I'm leading that day in order to print the roster.
The activity I'm leading that day is the activity I'm going to need to access the quickest in order to print…
4 votesThis is now live in production! Activities and events that are still active or happening same-day will now show up under 'My Activities' at the top vs. 'My Activities History'.

Allow Participants to be Bulk Assigned Volunteer Hours GH3364
Our requirement for the Stewardship Credit badge is 8 hours of stewardship-related work which can be obtained many ways. We have many stewardship activities, but some of them only require 2-4 hours of work. To make this easier to track, we'd like to be able to bulk assign volunteer hours to participants in these cases
4 votesThis is complete. Look for the "Check this box to assign volunteer hours to participants too" checkbox when closing an activity.
We're working on how to integrate this this the Stewardship badge soon (seehttps://feedback.mountaineers.org/forums/273688-general-feedback/suggestions/41870725-assign-the-stewardship-credit-badge-based-on-stewa).

STOP Allowing Registration to Occur Before Registration Begins
Field Trips are full before registration date. Wtf? This makes registration dates pointless!!! As a new Scrambling student I’m patiently waiting for field registration to begin only to realize they are full prior to registration. Members are fine getting leader’s permission but should have to wait till the registration is open to register not before.
4 votesWe provide leader training in our new leader orientation and leadership development programs, in our online resources, and in our Leader Lines email newsletter to address this issue.
