This forum is for you to share ideas and exchange feedback with Mountaineers members, guests, volunteers, and leadership. You may vote for or comment on any forum idea and will be notified of status changes to that idea. Your feedback helps us prioritize projects and improvements for our organization. We receive lots of great ideas, so please search the forum first before adding a new one. If your idea is not yet in our forum, please post it with a simple title and an explanation of your idea and how it benefits The Mountaineers. Please note that all our courses, events, trips and course-related activities have feedback forms so that you give feedback for every activity in which you participate. You’ll get an email reminder to do so just after the activity. If your feedback is of urgent nature it may be best to contact the chair of the committee that sponsors that program directly.   1. Feature Request - Expiring Badge Notification ~SFOnly

    As a user I would like to be notified prior to my badge expiring so that I can arrange to meet requirements or arrange for an extension given that I have a badge that has an expiration date. The problem to avoid is people losing their privileges without notice and being unpleasantly surprised.

    Then, when the expiration date is within 90 and 30 days from expiring:

    - A notification of what badge is about to expire and when will be sent to me (User) 90 days and 30 days prior to the expiration date.

    We are working on the components needed to deploy in our improved email system. We expect to have this complete by the end of November at the latest. Then we will work on activity closing notification and badge expiration notifications.

  2. Reclassify Snowshoe Routes and Trips Using New S/T Rating System ~WebsiteOnly

    This posting is the result of 1) a few years of cross-branch discussions among the Snowshoe Programs of the various branches, and 2) email discussions with the Program Center about how to go about changing the rating system used to classify Snowshoe trips. The feedback we received from the Program Center was that the correct way to document our request for changing the website was to post the changed to feedback.mountaineers.org.

    The website project needed to implement the new snowshoe S/T trip ratings is scheduled for work this spring/summer with the intent to be ready for the next season.

    We will need to provide new inputs for the revised snowshoe trip ratings, and your recommendations based on recently led or traveled trips is appreciated! We have created a Google spreadsheet to collect input. Please take a moment to share your recent insights on snowshoe trip routes.

  3. Improve Roster Functionality: Track Mentored Leaders

    How to show mentored leaders on trip (perhaps leave as is but automatically make anyone whose role is co-leader or mentored leader and admin and add "show as contact" checkbox. How to show on committee roster. Probably Leader box checked with mentored leader note and a "short" expiration date. Also add survey aimed at trips with mentored leader (show this feedback to primary leader, co leader and mentored leader)

    See the second comment by Jeff Bowman (Jun 28, 2017) for how to use the features we have for tacking mentored leaders. There are two items left, automating checking the admin box for co- and mentored leaders, and creating a how to page for our Leaders Resources.

  4. Please create two "outdoor leadership" activity types ~SFOnly

    In order to track what the mountaineers does in terms of outdoor leadership, we would like two activity types:

    Leader Development - Leadership Skills
    Leader Development - Technical Skills

    Working on creating auto email confirmations for the member services team to update new clinics and courses appropriately in plone. And then working with education team to do some tagging in salesforce specific to technical versus leadership skills.

  5. Create More Robust Safety Committee Data Analysis GH2704/2732/2705/2609/2491

    Currently, participants submit incident reports to the Safety Committee, which then compiles the data and looks for trends in the aggregate (it does a lot more than that as well, but this aspect of its work is onerous). If we connected incident reporting with routes/places and even illustrated on a map, committees could analyze trends and information much more rapidly and wouldn't have to wait for Safety Committee reports. Safety Committee efforts could then be more available for training and prevention work now that the data crunching burden has been reduced.     COMPLETED: Participants may now fill an incident report like the primary leader. This can be done from a button on the activity detail page or at the end the feedback survey.

    ON HOLD: The Safety Committee completed changes to the Incident Report Form that we are implementing, but wants to re-review it before going live. The current estimate for launch is late 2018.

  6. When an activity is pushed to a future date make sure feedback emails also update to the future date GH2281

    Right now if a climb is scheduled for May 1 and you have to move it to May 8 because of weather the feedback email is still sent out on May 2, the day after the original start date.

    We’re working obtaining an addition to our email marketing system that will allow us better schedule these kinds of time-dependent emails.

    It will take some time, though/ We hop to have this complete by late summer or early fall 2017.

  7. Need a way to mark courses/events/activities as led by staff vs. volunteers GH2707

    Right now its getting difficult to report volunteer contributions for recognition and annual reporting versus staff contributions.

  8. Salesforce opportunity acknowlegment automation GH2885

    I was dreaming about how to improve tracking donor communications and acknowledgements and came up with an idea.

    From a salesforce opportunity I would love to have the option to initiate acknowledgment and thank you communications directly from Salesforce. They come in two forms:

    1. Generating a thank you email to the donor directly from salesforce based off of a selected template (selected based on gift) with the ability to customize before sending.   9. SEO Improvements 2017-18 GHP1 SD587

    We engaged Portent, Inc. to review our website from an SEO (Search Engine Optimization, e.g. Google) perspective. They gave us a set of recommendations that involve both technical and content improvements to our website. Overall, this is likely a large project, but will likely be many very small projects that we can accomplish with our monthly support over time.

  10. Allow application files directly uploaded to course edit form GH2764

    Make it so I can directly upload my course application on the course Edit form. Having to find my url and remember which folder i uploaded my application in is confusing and not intuitive.

  11. Migrate Files to "The Cloud" ~IT

    We have internal systems we can move to a cloud platform: office apps & files (apps, documents, spreadsheets, presentations), and graphic design apps & files (e.g. Adobe Creative Suite). Note that we already have photo storage in SmugMug and on website and video storage in Vimeo and YouTube.

  12. Deceased member information ~SFOnly

    What needs to happen to membership accounts when a member passing- including but not limited to unsubscribe from emails, change contact for communication on membership etc.

    ○ Should default membership expiration to the date when marked as deceased.
    ○ Unsubscribe them from all email newsletters
    ○ Send email to committee chairs or staff alerting us to remove them from committee rosters
