Three day head start for basic students who don't yet have 3 climbs
Good afternoon Jeff,
Jim Nelson asked that I get in contact with you about a website feature we would like to explore in support of the Basic Climbing Course. We would like for the website to be able to flag Basic Course students who have not yet completed three climbs and give them a three-day head start in signing up for Basic climbs. As soon as a student has three successful climbs, the flag comes off and they have the same priority in signing up for climbs as prior-year Basic course graduates.
This change addresses two long-simmering concerns:
- It gives…

Beef up our route-place database to include all of the routes-places in the '100-best' books
The system has such capacity for displaying our routes and places in an attractive and appealing way, with enough detail to know where the trailhead is and whether or not it covers the route or place that one wants to take. It seems a huge missed opportunity to let routes-places be submitted without even the most basic of descriptions other than the pure length and elevation gain, which doesn't tell us much. Yet I know that Member Services is deluged with route place requests that are so urgent that you hesitate to push back. I wonder if we might be…
8 votesHello All - Thank you for your interest in this idea! I think everyone would agree that there are opportunities to enhance and build out our routes and places further. While we do the best we can at staff to handle the updates submitted by members to our current routes, we are not in a position to staff this process to its fullest. If improvements to the process are going to be made, it will have to come through passionate volunteers. If a group does decide to organize around routes places, we will see where and how staff can support as we do for other committees/groups.
As it relates to the 100 best hikes, I do believe that we have all 100 in our routes/places database. If you believe a few are missing, please share that information with info@mountaineers.org as that is something we would be happy to prioritize as…

Add a new Activity category called "Other".
This could be a catch-all spot for new ideas that don't yet fit an established category. A good example is the Olympia Branch Gear Swap. It is desirable to run it as an Activity because: 1. The intent is to have sellers register and pay for tables. and 2. Folks have now been trained/accustomed to searching activities for things to do. Given the creative, entrepreneurial nature of members and branches, new ideas do come along and need an outlet, rather than be discouraged just because they are a square peg. Over time, examples that had persistence would become candidates for…

Show "Late Cancellation" as a Participant Result
Show "Late Cancellation" as a status on the Participant Result, if participant cancels after registration is closed. This would be an additional option to Cancelled and No Show, which already exist. No changes to existing, automated emails.
6 votesHello All - This idea was discussed and is not going to be pursued. We appreciate and recognize the frustration of late cancellations, but want to focus our efforts on ways to change member's behaviors to avoid late cancellations. Currently, when late cancellations happen, we send an email reminding that person of the impact of late cancellations and to avoid such cancellations in the future. We encourage leaders to consider using participation notes when appropriate.

Favorites: Flag interest on an activity
I would like to see a feature in the website to let me flag to myself that I am interested in signing up for an activity, that I can return to with a filter and decide whether to sign up or let it slip. Personally, I would not care if my interest flags were visible to others.
5 votesHello All-
Thank you for your interest in this idea and Bob for submitting it a few years back. We always look for additional feedback and ideas to see what fits within our development budget and product roadmap. This idea was reviewed internally and with our developers and unfortunately is going to close. Developing this sort of personalized tag on activities would be significant and not something we can prioritize over the improvements to our core functionality. Thanks again for participating in our feedback to make our community's technology offerings stronger. If something changes in the future and this is possible we can revisit!

Allow overlapping activities
The website doesn't allow for overlapping activities, for example two 3-day climbs of the same summit which would summit and camp on different days.
For example, one climb of a mountain could be on Friday, Saturday, Sunday and another climb could be Sunday, Monday, Tuesday. One climb thus summits on Saturday, the other on Monday.
Since there is no conflict of having two parties travelling along the same part of a route at the same time, the website should allow registration of activities that don't exactly overlap.
A warning is probably still in order since the trip leaders must make…5 votesChanging from DECLINED to CLOSED to follow the improved and streamlined feedback status options: https://www.mountaineers.org/blog/new-technology-experience-manager-feedback-management-improvements

Show waitlist participants to other registered participants

Add details to personal notification emails
Many activities (especially climbing) have specific notes from leaders that the activity is restricted to a specific group within the branch. This puts the participants in disbelief about finding climbs to go on.
As climb leaders have gotten better at stating these restrictions on the activity page, having activity descriptions and leader notes added to the notification email would be highly appreciated by the member - so we can have a more informed decision to click on the link and reach out to the leader. This will reduce the traffic on the website and will improve the well-being of our…3 votesHello KD -
Thank you for submitting your idea! We have looked into your request but due to the lack of standard across all activities mixed with our cross-activity auto-email functionality there is not a clean way to solve this member concern via email. There is another idea out there in the forum that I believe meets a similar ask as to make it clearer what activities are specific to special interest groups or branches. The open idea is here if you would like to vote for it!

"Suggested Alternate Activities" when Registering for the Waitlist
It would be great if we could have "suggested alternate activities" pop-up when someone registers for the waitlist on an activity. This might look like the page that shows of recommended books. Alternate activities would be of similar difficulty, they would have availability, and they would be open or upcoming. The hope would be to try to get folks off our waitlist and into activities with availability.
3 votesHello Sara -
Thank you for submitting the idea! This was reviewed and while we agree it could help some members find activities, it is unfortunately not something we are in the position to pursue at the moment. Our current plan is to prioritize improvements to our activity search filter and sorting capabilities to help members more easily find activities. We believe that this will help members find multiple activities that are relevant to them to hopefully find alternatives if an activity is on a waitlist.

Activity Seach Option: Meet Prerequisites SD640
Have an option to filter out activities you are not eligible. For example, I am a glacier travel graduate who can do certain climbs, but not all. It would be neat if I could filter out the activities that I do not have the proper badge for!
3 votesHello Matthew -
Thank you for submitting an idea. However, this is quite a challenging thing to do for us to implement as it would require an individual's badge status to be included in each search. This also would not take into account badges that may be in progress and completed by the time the activity/course begins. Unfortunately this is not something we are in the position to do any time soon so I am going to close this idea. If things change, we can re-open and consider this again.

Display activity start time next to date
Display an activity start time prominently along with the date, and as a mandatory field. It wastes time to go through several screens only to see that no time is listed, or the start time won't work for your personal schedule.

Eliminate or change the SK ratings for Sea Kayak Route/Places
From the 2/7/15 Sea Kayak Summit - all of the leaders from the represented branches at this summit (all branches except Kitsap and Bellingham) agreed that SK ratings for a route/place (NOT an "Activity") was of limited usefulness. Many agreed with the suggestion of changing the route/place rating to something more general such as "beginner, moderate," or other phrases that referred to the amount of POTENTIAL exposure, but did not purport to address all of the varying conditions that could occur at different times and in different weather.
3 votesChris Williams worked with our Sea Kayaking Leadership on this issue. It was decided that having difficulties on Sea Kayaking Routes & Places is desired. Like all trips, difficulties can vary widely based on weather and other conditions.

Leader's Permission Request activation date
It is unclear when leader permission for an activity should be requested. Some leaders may intend for the request to occur after registration opens, but many requests are in advance. Wise trip leaders make it clear in the description. It might take some burden off leaders to assign a date to this that is visible on the activity.
2 votesHello Chris -
Thank you for submitting your idea! This was reviewed and while there is benefit in the idea for some of the ways that leaders may handle 'Leadership Permission', each leader handles this process a little differently. Given this field would only be used by a portion of our trips, this is not something we can prioritize at this time given the work around of having this information listed as part of the activity description. If we make changes in the future to our 'Leadership Permission' process we can reconsider this ask then!

Display "Leader's Permission Required" and Registration Opening Date on Field Trip Pages

Lead Activity Again via "Single Activity Cloning"
To make it easier for leaders to schedule an activity that they've already led, add what is sort of a copy-and-paste/single clone feature and display on the Lead Activity Again button in the "Manage Activity" portlet.
This new "single clone" feature would:
- Create a copy of the activity
- Place it in the same folder as the activity being copied
- Increment it's URL as if it were made by staring with the route/place
- Run all of error and conflict checks
- Display the newly added/copied activity's edit form with any errors2 votesThis idea is closing as it did not reach enough votes/engagement over the past few years to be prioritized. When trips are co-led by two leaders who report to different branches and committees please can both sponsor and share credit? GH3075
When trips are co-led by two leaders who report to different branches and committees please can both sponsor and share credit?
2 votesThis idea is closing as it did not reach enough votes/engagement over the past few years to be prioritized. Today, leaders are able to get around this by joining as in 'instructor' for another branch that the activity is under. The reason why this is difficult to implement today is because each activity must belong to a singular branch as each branch has different requirements, procedures, etc.

Semi-commercial glacier /basic climbs
It is very hard to sign up for glacier climbs or basic climbs unless you are a student. There is a huge waiting list for those non-students and it is hard to track. Then it is hard to plan ahead if suddenly you are being moved from waiting list. I propose to create structure where there will be opportunity for paying extra but it will be for members who graduated from basic or have skills but don’t have time to track various waiting lists and just want to climb. I found zero climbs for non-students. I would gladly pay to…
1 voteThank you for submitting your idea! I appreciate the frustration you feel and as an organization we will explore how we can provide more open climbs within our dedicated but limited climb leader volunteer pool. However, it is not possible for us to apply any sort of fees to our climbs as the permits we acquire do not allow for it.

My Activities text when empty
The text that shows when I have no future activities says: "You haven't registered for any activities yet." This is false, as the extensive activity history that opens below testifies.
I propose language such as: "You have no upcoming activities."
1 voteGiven the earlier comment, the information loads after a few seconds to showcase all past activities, so there is no need for a language change.

Map units in feet
Wouldn't it be cool if the maps on the website displayed elevation in feet rather than meters?
1 voteHello Sahand -
Thank you for submitting your idea! We have reviewed this idea with our developers and unfortunately this is not a quick change. While feet would be nice to have, it would not be something we would prioritize at this time over new functionality changes. If we work on our map feature in the future, we will consider adding this to the list if there is enough overlap in the development required!
