This forum is for you to share ideas and exchange feedback with Mountaineers members, guests, volunteers, and leadership. You may vote for or comment on any forum idea and will be notified of status changes to that idea. Your feedback helps us prioritize projects and improvements for our organization. We receive lots of great ideas, so please search the forum first before adding a new one. If your idea is not yet in our forum, please post it with a simple title and an explanation of your idea and how it benefits The Mountaineers. Please note that all our courses, events, trips, course-related activities, clinics, seminars, and lodge stays have feedback forms so that you give feedback for everything in which you participate. You’ll get an email reminder to do so just after the activity. If your feedback is of urgent nature it may be best to contact the chair of the committee that sponsors that program directly. If there was a safety incident or near miss, you will have the opportunity for submitting an Incident Report after submitting activity feedback. You may also use the Incident Report button on the activity detail page (from your My Activities page) or contact our Safety Committee directly at safety@mountaineers.org.

  1. Set focus to username field in login

    Please set the "focus" to the first field "username” on the login page. It's a niggly little thing to have to proactively click into the box to type in it on every login.

  2. Improve badge display sort on course view

    I have a low priority website UI feature request. For courses which award multiple badges to graduates, it would be nice if the list of badges were sorted nicer. One sort method could be "Course badges first then Skill badges, and within those by alphabetical". Here's the 2020 Seattle Basic course as an example of messy badges...

  3. Adding a "Related Items" section for additional information on Book product page GH3074

    Add a new tab alongside "Description" "Video" and "Reviews" for related items, especially blogs.

    The idea is to present complementary content when the product page is the landing page, esp. considering the % of our page sessions are from New Users.

    Aside from links to our blog, other items could be downloads, related events* -- it's also why I don't want to just call this tab "Blogs," as it doesn't necessarily reflect the full scope.

    *Though personally, I think this should be its own tab, and would be pulled automatically from Author Events calendar.

    I thought about just linking whatever…

  4. Simple and Effective Feedback Surveys & Incident Reports

    (1) Keep it simple and quick to attract more feedback.
    (2) For instance, we could have multi-choice or single-choice questions on page 1 (change it to cover a bigger picture than we do already) and have a conditional page if people wish to add more comments/improvements if they wish to.
    (3) Separate the near-miss report and incident report. They serve different purposed and requires attention and follow-up on a different scale.

    Thanks for the suggestions. We completely agree with “keeping things simple.”

    Although your suggestion for our feedback page may be conceptually simpler, it is quite complicated to implement and we have several other needs for our feedback system, http://feedback.mountaineers.org/forums/273688-general-feedback?category_id=358780. Feel free to review and vote or comment on any of these.

    Separating near miss reporting from full incident reports is a good idea that our Safety Committee needs to evaluate. We recommend merging it with Create More Robust Safety Committee Data Analysis, http://feedback.mountaineers.org/forums/273688-general-feedback/suggestions/7002958-create-more-robust-safety-committee-data-analysis. Please let us know if that is ok with you and we’ll do that. It can also be a separate idea. If you prefer, please feel free to add a new idea for this.

  5. Add way to Embed EveryAction advocacy forms into blogs, webpages GH2924

    Being able to embed the action form into a Mtnrs blog or webpage would simplify the number of steps/clicks members would have to take in order to engage on an action.

  6. Improve Layout of Bottom Portlets GH2806

    When we have more than three bottom portlets, their layout arrangement goes "bonkers." We'd like to arrangements to work like those in the attached example.

  7. Update Gift Memberships Pricing Portlets GH2926

    Update portlet text for Gift Memberships to show new price. Right now on the gift membership page and on the next page it shows the original price for memberships, not the discounted gift price, and it should probably show the regular price crossed out with the gift price in red. So for the holidays (December) it will be 25% off, and for any time earlier it will be 15% off.

  8. Emergency contact person - automated emails

    It might be nice when a trip happens (not a course or seminar, just a trip) that an automated email gets sent out to everyone's emergency contact person letting them know that they're going on a trip and what to do if they don't come home. If they don't live with each other, I bet nobody ever tells their emergency contact person they're going on a trip. I don't know what the official process is, but maybe the email could say "Sally Smith is going on a 1-day trip today with the Mountaineers, if they aren't home by noon tomorrow…

  10. When a leader sets a trip to 'private' status, turn off visibility to leaders

    Sometimes a committee administrator has time to create multiple listings in advance on behalf of leaders but doesn't want them to be visible to anyone until the trip opens for registration, so they set them to 'private' for a few days or weeks. Particularly the case for Global Adventures but also for some course field trips. However right now all listings are visible to any leader even when marked private. The whole point of marking something private is so that no one gets the advantage of advance visibility for that activity. Can we make any 'private' status activity be invisible…

    We allow leaders to see private activities because they need to see all activities at a given route/place to prevent multiple groups going to the same place. This obviously applies mostly to global adventures and we understand the need to have limited visibility but it’s hard to justify the resources needed for development for a specific activity committee at this time.

  11. Table of badge dates

    On the "My Activities" page there's a "Review Participation Notes" blue button. When I click on that and scroll all the way to the bottom it shows when my badges were added and when they expire. This table of dates is super handy, but having it located here is really klunky.

    It seems like all this badge date info should be at the bottom of the "My Profile" page. It would also be nice to list along with the Expire date if it has expired but it's still in the grace period.

  12. Prevent Recursion & Cycles in Bundled Lodge Stays GH2272

    [Kevin] A bundled night has a "qualifying purchase" and an "add-on".

    You should not be able to chain bundled nights together. This is pretty easy to fix: If a relationship exists, show it on both. The relationship should only be editable from the add-on item, and should be displayed in a read-only manner on the qualifying purchaser.

    Friday 1/6 (editable) -> Saturday1/7 (read-only)
    Saturday1/7 -> Friday 1/14 <--- not allowed, b/c Saturday 1/7 has a relationship already
    Friday 1/14 -> Friday 1/6 <---- not allowed, b/c Friday 1/6 has a relationship already

  13. Improve Collection Portlet for Main Content Area Below the Title GH2263

    Improve the display of a collection portlet that can be display in the main content area of a page just below the title, image and summary. The portlet would continue to be configuration as it is but the display would span the entire page if there is only one (50/50 if there are two and 33/33/33 if there are three. Currently it spans only 33% of the width in all cases.

    This would allow our outdoor centers and other committees to elevate their blog content if they wish See attached a example.

  14. Disconnect the <Enter> key from Submit on the Routes & Placed Edit Form

    Disconnect the <Enter> key from the "Submit" button on the Routes & Places edit form. It is a big form with lots of things to be filled in and lots of causes for pressing <Enter> before one is ready. On the other hand, one is still able to edit afterwards so accidental submission was not a big problem.

  15. Larger profile pictures

    Our community is stronger when we connect with one another and when other members can learn more about you. So while we’re at it, how about allowing larger views of members’ profile photos? I was delighted when the member profile feature was added to the web site, enabling me to see who I’m going on a trip with; but what’s with the microscopic space allotted to the profile photo? I have a 34-inch monitor, yet members’ photos show up in a tiny 2-inch circle and I have to peer closely at the screen to make out any facial features. The…

    I found the "Post a new idea..." link on this page (on the right, under "General Feedback") to be confusing. I expect a link to take me to a new page, but actually it was a no-op. I would suggest just eliminate that link.

  17. Include full names in email address lists

    When I get the list of email addresses for my activity, I would prefer to have the list include everyone's full name. For example, instead of
    person@gmail.com, person2@hotmail.com
    I would prefer to see
    "first last" person@gmail.com, "first2 last2" person2@hotmail.com
    Then I would have human-friendly names in my emails.

  18. Online outdoor resume

    I think that breaking down the various skills our courses teach is important and reiterate my support for "skill badges" that is already an idea in this system. However, I see benefit in creating a template that is populated with the skills a member has earned that takes the form of an outdoor resume people could download and modify. This could promote our efforts to make the burgeoning multi-billion-dollar outdoor industry accessible to the youth we serve (as well as help our members who are sick and tired of their current jobs and would love to make a career transition).…

  19. Add the Ability to Filter Activity Listing by Sponsoring Committee

    Currently the activity listing can only be filtered by activity type and branch, but not by the sponsoring committee. In most cases this isn't a problem because the committee is the same as the activity type, but there are a few "community" committees, Retired Rovers, 20-30s Somethings, Singles. With the current system trips sponsored by these committees are basically impossible to find. The audience filters would work great for this, except that any trip can pick any of them, so most trips pick more than one.

  20. Improve search functionality in the Add Person to Roster field

    Improve the search capabilities of the lookup field when you are using the "Add Person to Roster" field. Let’s say I’m looking at an activity and I want to add a person to the roster. I click the Roster option near the top of the window then click the button to add a person. A data entry form then appears.
