Photography Clause in Waiver

Thank you for sharing your feedback about the photography requirement as part of the club’s waiver. Our tech team recently completed a review of outstanding technology ideas in our feedback forum, and flagged your idea for follow up.

We discussed, and ultimately we are not able to update our waiver to remove the photography requirement. The reason for this is that we are not able to guarantee that our participants will not be photographed by others in their courses or on their activities. I realize the waiver specifically mentions use for Mountaineers publications, but this also covers liability in the case of an individual posting to their personal online spaces as well. On the communications team, we do use photos submitted by members, but we generally ask for permission to use the faces of individuals in those photographs. We have never had the case where someone wished to have their photograph removed from our main website (which is where 99% of member-submitted photographs are used), but we would remove the photo if someone were to ask.
