STOP Allowing Registration to Occur Before Registration Begins
Field Trips are full before registration date. Wtf? This makes registration dates pointless!!! As a new Scrambling student I’m patiently waiting for field registration to begin only to realize they are full prior to registration. Members are fine getting leader’s permission but should have to wait till the registration is open to register not before.

Please create two "outdoor leadership" activity types ~Salesforce
In order to track what the mountaineers does in terms of outdoor leadership, we would like two activity types:
Leader Development - Leadership Skills
Leader Development - Technical SkillsBelow is the email thread for background:
Here’s a really quick stab at some language, for nothing else than to give us something to edit:Leadership Skills
- May or may not be activity-specific.
- May or may not have a focus on outdoor leadership.- Emphasis on facilitation, instruction, and/or group leadership.
Technical Skills
- Activity-specific.
- Skill development in activity that this person leads or aspires to lead. (Not…7 votesCompleted Feb 2019

"Suggested Alternate Activities" when Registering for the Waitlist
It would be great if we could have "suggested alternate activities" pop-up when someone registers for the waitlist on an activity. This might look like the page that shows of recommended books. Alternate activities would be of similar difficulty, they would have availability, and they would be open or upcoming. The hope would be to try to get folks off our waitlist and into activities with availability.
3 votesWe think is may be partly fixed by requiring leaders to choose a Leader Rating so that searches are more accurate.

Reclassify Snowshoe Routes and Trips Using New S/T Rating System ~WebsiteContent
This posting is the result of 1) a few years of cross-branch discussions among the Snowshoe Programs of the various branches, and 2) email discussions with the Program Center about how to go about changing the rating system used to classify Snowshoe trips. The feedback we received from the Program Center was that the correct way to document our request for changing the website was to post the changed to feedback.mountaineers.org.
The Snowshoe Programs of the various branches would like to change the way that Snowshoe Routes and Trips are rated so that each route/trip has a separate Strenuous and…

Leader "Difficulty" Rating Default to Blank GH2331
Currently when listing a new activity, the "Leader Rating" field defaults to "For Beginners (Getting Started Series)" There are cases where a trip is NOT for beginners, but the leader never changed their rating. Can the Leader Rating default to blank, and require the leader to select one of the options rather than default to For Beginners?

Make Activity Template's Activity Type a Multiselect GH2752
Right now we have a number of leadership clinics which we are having a hard time reporting on since they are categorized by activity type when really we want them tagged as both the activity like Sea Kayaking AND outdoor leadership

Show "Late Cancellation" as a Participant Result
Show "Late Cancellation" as a status on the Participant Result, if participant cancels after registration is closed. This would be an additional option to Cancelled and No Show, which already exist. No changes to existing, automated emails.
6 votesWe have a number of mechanisms in place to help people understand the impact of cancellations and no- shows. This includes our automated emails and participation notes for people on trips.
We are concerned that this status will lead to leaders blacklisting participants from trips and think that instead the focus needs to be on better new member orientation about our activities.

When a leader sets a trip to 'private' status, turn off visibility to leaders
Sometimes a committee administrator has time to create multiple listings in advance on behalf of leaders but doesn't want them to be visible to anyone until the trip opens for registration, so they set them to 'private' for a few days or weeks. Particularly the case for Global Adventures but also for some course field trips. However right now all listings are visible to any leader even when marked private. The whole point of marking something private is so that no one gets the advantage of advance visibility for that activity. Can we make any 'private' status activity be invisible…
0 votesWe allow leaders to see private activities because they need to see all activities at a given route/place to prevent multiple groups going to the same place. This obviously applies mostly to global adventures and we understand the need to have limited visibility but it’s hard to justify the resources needed for development for a specific activity committee at this time.

Allow Leaders to Choose Activity Template or Route/Place Image for Activities SD641
When scheduling an activity, allow the leader to choose to use one of the the route/place images, the activity template image, or an image from their local computer.
Notes:
Currently when scheduling a trip (standalone) activity, the one form the route/place is the default and the leader may choose to replace that with one from their computer. For course activities, the default image is from the activity template, and the leader may choose to replace that with one from their computer.
Many of our Routes & Places have an "Images" folder where we store images submitted by our members and…

Add Email Notification for Comments SD642
Make it so comments on trip reports, blog posts, etc. send an email to the person who posted the trip report so they can respond and have a dialogue about conditions. We'll also need a way to opt out of this email.
Note: If the commenter shared their profile their name is a link that will provide their email address.

Activity Seach Option: Meet Prerequisites SD640
Have an option to filter out activities you are not eligible. For example, I am a glacier travel graduate who can do certain climbs, but not all. It would be neat if I could filter out the activities that I do not have the proper badge for!

Three day head start for basic students who don't yet have 3 climbs
Good afternoon Jeff,
Jim Nelson asked that I get in contact with you about a website feature we would like to explore in support of the Basic Climbing Course. We would like for the website to be able to flag Basic Course students who have not yet completed three climbs and give them a three-day head start in signing up for Basic climbs. As soon as a student has three successful climbs, the flag comes off and they have the same priority in signing up for climbs as prior-year Basic course graduates.
This change addresses two long-simmering concerns:
- It gives…
15 votesHi Climbers,
Thanks for posting your suggestions on the feedback site. This has been an issue for many years, and this is not a problem with a technology solution – at least not right now (take a look at another Feedback idea with a healthy number of votes in opposition to pre-filling rosters before a trip is posted- http://feedback.mountaineers.org/forums/272594-leaders/suggestions/6939679-future-activity-sign-up-dates-modifying-registrat).
Every option proposed has implications for every activity across the entire organization. If we allow trip rosters to be filled with students, we limit the availability of roster spots for course graduates like basic climbing students (who will leave The Mountaineers when climbs aren’t available to them). Whether we decide to favor students over general membership is a policy decision that needs to be made at a higher level in the organization, not by staff or a single committee. Because website/technology solutions apply to every activity we offer we need…

Add Title Choices to Routes & Places for Use with Activities GH1476
To make it easier to better title activities where the route place has broadly varying options and alternatives, provide a list of alternate location names that may be used.
Specifically, when scheduling an activity allow the leader to choose an alternate title from an "Alternate Route/Place Title" list that is populated from a route/place "Route/Place Titles for Activity Titles" list.
Here's an example:
For a scramble of "Silver, Tinkham & Abiel Peaks," https://www.mountaineers.org/explore/routes-places/silver-tinkham-abiel-peaks, the activity title currently is and by default after implementing this idea would be:
Alpine Scramble - Silver, Tinkham & Abiel Peaks
Alternate activity titles with…
32 votesWe now have the ability to have alternate titles for routes/places that have a couple different destinations but all use the same access and thus we wouldn’t want two different Mountaineers groups there on the same day.
An example is Snow & Gem Lakes. This trip can now simply be titled Gem Lake or Snow & Gem Lakes. Or if you are only climbing Tinkham and Silver Peaks you can now pick just those two peaks even though the listing has Silver, Abiel & Tinkham Peaks.
The ability to switch to an alternate title is in the Route/Place tab when you are in the activity edit form while scheduling or editing an activity. It’s the same place you’d edit the date or choose a new route/place for the activity.
Please note that this alternate title is not supposed to replace the summary. For example the title is not Gem Lake…

Develop functionality for Activity Programs and Outings/Combos SD154/GH1639
This is functionality would be much like what we have for courses and would be for activity programs like Explorers and Venturing Crew, activity outings like Yosemite Climbing and "combo" activities like Hike & Stewardship and Cathedral Rock & Mount Daniel. We need to be able to group a few activities (and maybe a couple lodge stays) under one "umbrella" Outing and use a "manage registration" style feature to register for them and the Outing as a whole like we do for courses.

Make it possible for website to process multiple payments for trips like Global Adventures and Youth Programs
Make it possible for deposits to be taken and then remaining balance paid through the website.
User Story: As a parent registering my child for a youth program, allow me to choose to pay the full amount, or automatically pay in equal monthly installments from this month through the last month of the program with a credit card so that staff need not keep credit card info on file (security risk) and process these cards manually every month.
Note: Though specifically requested for our youth programs, this payment system could be used for any program of sufficient length and cost.

This could be accomplished with either of these two projects, “Organizations & Online Invoicing” and “Monthly Payment System.”

The doors are closed to most of us.
Publish lists of truly open events where organizers are not micromanaging who can attend. The list will be incredibly short. Others have commented on this and per usual someone with 'official authority' to do so deleted their thoughts and suggestions. This is absurd, rude, and asinine. The arrogance demonstrated is remarkable. The issue stands. There are painfully few outings available (particularly for Basic Climbing Grads) to participate in. This does not feel like a club at all, but a set of tight cliques that are energetically guarded.
3 votesHi Douglas,
You are not alone in your frustration about the limited number of climbs for basic grads. In fact I’d encourage you to read this thread and comment on it which discusses this same issue so you can better understand the climb leader’s perspective as well
I am closing this feedback item because we are trying to make sure their aren’t duplicates of the same item. The issue you brought up is incredibly important and was actually discussed recently by the managing committee.
The Managing Committee met on April 30, 2015 and decided to take no action on the issue right now. Central issues that contribute to these frustrations that they identified were a shortage of leaders and the various legitimate needs for pre-filling a roster that should not be disrupted. However, they decided that working on increasing the leader base and monitoring frustrations related to this issue…

Display activity start time next to date
Display an activity start time prominently along with the date, and as a mandatory field. It wastes time to go through several screens only to see that no time is listed, or the start time won't work for your personal schedule.
3 votesThe current meeting time and place field is rich text to allow leaders to explain start times. For example, sometimes a leader puts in both start time at trailhead and where and when they are meeting at a park and ride.
Our leaders requested this flexibility so it would be a pretty big change to switch this to being a single field or adding another field that leaders need to complete is not practical. -
Eliminate or change the SK ratings for Sea Kayak Route/Places
From the 2/7/15 Sea Kayak Summit - all of the leaders from the represented branches at this summit (all branches except Kitsap and Bellingham) agreed that SK ratings for a route/place (NOT an "Activity") was of limited usefulness. Many agreed with the suggestion of changing the route/place rating to something more general such as "beginner, moderate," or other phrases that referred to the amount of POTENTIAL exposure, but did not purport to address all of the varying conditions that could occur at different times and in different weather.
3 votesChris Williams worked with our Sea Kayaking Leadership on this issue. It was decided that having difficulties on Sea Kayaking Routes & Places is desired. Like all trips, difficulties can vary widely based on weather and other conditions.

Beef up our route-place database to include all of the routes-places in the '100-best' books
The system has such capacity for displaying our routes and places in an attractive and appealing way, with enough detail to know where the trailhead is and whether or not it covers the route or place that one wants to take. It seems a huge missed opportunity to let routes-places be submitted without even the most basic of descriptions other than the pure length and elevation gain, which doesn't tell us much. Yet I know that Member Services is deluged with route place requests that are so urgent that you hesitate to push back. I wonder if we might be…
8 votesWe considered a site-wide volunteer initiative to continue improve our Routes & Places and then add to them, but have no one who has expressed interest in helping yet. Please contact us at info@mountaineers.org if you would like to help.
Remember that you can always add a new route/place and send us updates and corrections to those that exist (using the link on each route/place).

Fix Required Input Needed error on roster GHtbd
When you are trying to add someone to the roster it often spits back a "Required Input Needed" error even when you have entered someone's name or email correctly. Fortunately you can just hit Save and override error message but its confusing for new leaders.
