This forum is for you to share ideas and exchange feedback with Mountaineers members, guests, volunteers, and leadership. You may vote for or comment on any idea and will be notified of its status changes. Your feedback helps us prioritize projects and improvements for our organization.

We receive lots of great ideas, so please search the forum before adding a new one. If your idea is not yet in our forum, please post it with a simple title and an explanation, and how it could benefit The Mountaineers. Please note that all our courses, events, trips, course-related activities, clinics, seminars, and lodge stays have forms for you to give feedback when you participate. You’ll get an email reminder to do so just after the activity. If your feedback is of urgent nature it may be best to contact the chair of the committee that sponsors that program directly. If there was a safety incident or near miss, you will have the opportunity for submitting an Incident Report after submitting activity feedback.   1. Update Billing Info for Automatic Renewal GH1977

    The billing info associated with autorenewal payments is not getting updated in tandem with the user’s profile. Let's tweak the process to update the autorenewal billing info whenever the profile is updated, or at least give users the option to also update their billing info when they update their payment card info.

  2. Tracking Committee Positions over time for a list of all former chairs, for example.

    As people move in and out of their positions on a committee, it would be useful to have the ability to pull a report out of Salesforce that tells me who has served in that role over time (such as all Branch Chairs and the dates they served). Low priority but would help identify former expertise for mentoring opportunities and recognition.

  3. Fix Blog Title Text from Running into Photos GH1959

    When longer words are used in blogs we are getting the image for the blog overlaid on top of the title text.

  4. Course feedback form should request that students name their instructor

    Course feedback form should request that students name their instructor so we can learn from the good instructors and help the poor ones. Currently the comments are lumped together. Comments like "my instructor was great" and "my instructor was poor", don't do us any good because we don't know who they are talking about.

    The course related field trip surveys now include the following text to help identify which instructors may need additional support. “Could you give the reasons why you rated the instructors the way you did?
    Please list specific names of instructors if possible so we can pass on the feedback.”

  5. Make sponsoring committee a link on the course and activity pages GH1835

    When you click on a committee shown on an activity, course or event, it is helpful to be able to navigate to the committee page directly from that listing.

  6. Allow a course to have multiple course types GH1640

    I'd like to be able to list a course under two categories. For example Winter Travel for Everett was snowshoeing and cross country skiing so should be able to be listed under both. Scramble leader seminars or hike leader seminars ideally should get an outdoor leadership and the activity type tag

    Courses now can have multiple course types. THis lives in the course template and is particularly useful for courses like winter travel that need to be earmarked as Snowshoe and Cross Country Ski or hiking and backpacking seminars that cover both activity types.

  7. Warning message to leader if other trips scheduled in that area ~Salesforce

    For routes that can have multiple trips listed... Can I suggest a website change for those locations that allow multiple registrations, to possibly have some sort of a pop-up come up informing the leader something to the effect of

    "Yeah you are the only one currently registered for this location on your activity date" or

    "hmm -- you are now the Xth user registering for this location on on your activity date; please use your judgement about whether this would work"

  8. Please stop commercial offers on this site

    Please stop presenting book offers every time I register for an activity. The big yellow "Proceed to checkout" button, and the tiny "No thanks" alternative, are particularly unsavory. This is a nature association, not a late-night TV sales channel!

    We understand that some view these as commercial; offers, but we view them as making sure our members and guests have the materials they need for their courses and trips.

  9. Sort Courses and Activities by Date GH1837/1955

    Contents view of a Course Template or Activities folder apparently returns items oldest-first. This requires scrolling to the bottom of the page to find the newest (and most likely of interest) items. Please change to sort sub-folders first, then courses or activities by newest first.

    Note, if not fixed, this will become increasingly more inconvenient as history accumulates

    The column headers in the “folder contents” view are now spaced correctly and you can sort (as you always have) by clicking on a column header. But the sort is only one direction ( e.g. A-Z) for now. The reverse sort now works as it should.

    If you want to have a faceted search on any of your course template “Activities” folders, please send an email to info@mountaineers.org.

  10. Make Routes and Places Search Easier

    Make Routes and Places search easier to use. When I put in a search, I commonly get back 10 or more pages that take forever to scroll through. Adding words to make the search more specific makes the problem worse. For example, if I search for "Rainier" I get back 4 pages. If I try to be more specific with "Stevens Canyon Ranier", I get back 6 pages including many having nothing to do with "Rainier".

    I infer that the underlying logic is to match on ANY of the words I supply. That behavior is unintuitive for those of us…

  11. Replace Roster CSV (download), Copy, Print Feature GH1578

    The "TableTools" plug-in that we're using is now retired and it used Flash which is not available on all devices. We'll replace it with a newer "Buttons" plug-in that uses HTML5.

    We upgraded to the new download plug-in and still have the same three functions: copy, csv and print.

  12. Change to automatic renewal process GH1692

    The Mountaineers should change the way they handle automatic membership renewal. Currently on the website people are opted into automatic renewal by default when they pay their dues. The checkbox is small and easy to miss, leading to a fair amount of people getting opted into automatic renewal unknowingly. There are concerns that this borders on a privacy violation and may violate some privacy regulations.

    The checkbox for choosing Autorenewal on the checkout page is now much bigger and more obvious to avoid accidentally choosing Autorenewal.

    Create an online purchase option for shoppers to pick up a book at the Seattle Program Center, Tacoma Program Center or the location of a course lecture, field trip or seminar.

  14. HAVE STRIPE SPLIT PAYMENTS/DEPOSITS SD350

    Have Stripe split a credit card payment and distribute PC funds to its bank account while, at the same time, channeling payment for a book to the Books bank account.

  15. Add Save button at the top of registration windows GH1482

    This will be super helpful for mobile users trying to manage their rosters. Right now after adding some to the roster it is very hard to scroll down and Save them. This should be done for the Add Person to Courses, Activities and Event registration windows.

    We added a “Save” button at the top of every “Add person to roster” and “Edit” popup so that it is quicker and easier to save a record when on the top few field must be completed for the add or edit being done.

  16. Save Credit Card Info for Purchases SD328

    Allow members and guests to save credit card info when checking out and use saved credit card info to pay when checking out. We should allow multiple cards, choice of which one to use when checking out, ability to update (usually expiration date and CCV), remove, or add from the Shopping Cart. Allow the user to update, remove and add credit card info from their My Profile area too. We need to consider the implications to the recurring payments (automatic annual dues and monthly donations) too.

  17. Option for "Closed" vs "Open" Activities

    There needs to be a better way to handle closed activity sign-ups such as SIG-only outings. When hunting for activities, it is frustrating how many of the outings are actually closed events for a set group of people and not open to the public. Surely there's a way to remove these closed events from the publicly searchable activities board.

  18. Schedule quarterly meetings of all hiking committee leaders to coordinate the scheduling of hikes to match demonstrated demand. .

    We need to avoid both too few and too many hikes of the same type, to avoid both long waiting lists and the need to cancel for lack of signup.

    Text now shows on the course listing and in the “Find Instructor Opportunities” faceted search showing when reg opens to public and that instructor registration is open now.

  20. Make Sort Stick on Roster SD581

    Make it so when you switch sort order to alpha or by role (like instructor or admin on a committee) it stays while you are editing.

    It would also be good to have this on the calendar function as well to remember what date you were on.
